Nice video. A suggestion...place your bundle into a thin plastic trash bag before you pack it into the suitcase. This will not only protect it against any possible water leakage from the outside but reduce wrinkles and make it much easier to extract the bundle from the case and get to the items on the bottom of the suitcase (shoes, underwear, toiletries kit).
Smart people pack smart. Excellent packing ideas particularly for senior citizens. Why? Now that I am older, it takes me more time to pack and it really frustrates me. I noticed the frustration with my mother (never ending) packing. My wife and I had to literally help my mother and pack for her so we won't miss the plane. Sorry mom when I used to get annoyed because I did not understand your frustration. Rest in peace mom, we love you. tnx Ed
Thanks so much for this!! Allowed me to travel for work for 6 days with only a carry-on (including a suit, workout clothes, and running shoes)! Amazing!
I travel a couple of times a year and always watch this video to refresh my memory. The gift that keeps on giving! Thanks for filming and uploading this.

Finally, a video on packing from a guy! Thank you! Great tips. Appreciated the easy to understand, simple how-to demo, and to the point instruction. As a mom of only sons and with an engineer minded hubby, this will help a lot. Too many videos online by women/girls with all that extra fluff talk that served more like mindless entertainment than instructional. Although, agree with the earlier comment....eh, no underwear? Too funny.
thank you so much, I got it done on the first try to. I am a 64year-old plus size woman and I packed 5 pairs of jeans 3 bulky sweaters, 5 long sleeve pull over blouses a pair of sneakers 7 pairs of socks my underwear and lol I forget my pajamas but I'm sure they will fit.
This was amazing! I just packed for an 8 day trip for both me and my husband (including formalwear) in one suitcase!! I'll never pack another way again. Thanks!
You ROCK! I'm packing for a job in the middle east and with your tips, I'm going to be able to pack EVERYTHING I NEED AND WANT in the luggage I'm being alloted~2 checked bags and a carry on :-)
Hey Austin, this video was SOOOO Helpful! Thank you for posting it! I am preparing to travel Internationally. I started to freak out about all I needed to pack and was about to use a LARGER suitcase, until I saw your video. I tried it and it worked! It REALLY Worked Well! I still have to check in a luggage but at least it is the middle size luggage I wanted rather than the HUGE one. By the time I was done packing I was in AWE!! I actually had room left and contemplated adding more clothes :) But I resisted the temptation. Thanks again! HUGE Help!
I'm astounded at how well this works. My bag, unfortunately, didn't have a compression zipper, so I chose to stow my smaller items in a different bag. But even without those, I was looking at the bundle thinking "no way." But it worked! On the return trip I'll probably wear my jeans and pack my thin sweats, because I did have to squish it quite a bit. But very impressive nonetheless.
Great video, I bought a new spinner type roller bag after using a garment bag for years. Preparing for my first trip with new bag I realized I had no idea how to pack it. Fortunately I found your video. You guys are doing some great Engineering work at OU! I always assumed your Engineering only covered recreational science, so I am glad you have expanded into travel science! (Sorry, I am a UT Alum, so I had to get a jab in). Seriously, thanks for taking the time & effort to share your video. I am testing it on a trip to Seoul. Cheers, Joe
This would be a great analogy for whole program optimisation in compilers, vs packing each item individually with e.g. the army roll or konmari method (analogous to peephole/local optimisations).
This is not actually bundle wrapping, but a related method called "interfolding". Though the latter has some of the benefits of bundle wrapping, it does not do nearly as good a job when it comes to keeping clothing wrinkle-free. You can learn about actual bundle wrapping at OneBag.com.
David Park Exactly. Eliminating the core presents two problems, (1) extraneous folds are introduced, and (2) the lack of a tensioning mechanism creates wrinkles.
its the best video ive ever seen... i didnt know about this way of packing and i learned with two videos but they explained it badly and the method and pack wasnt as exact as yours... also you seem very nice and i like the homemade video aspect, in a university class🎉❤😊
Thanks so much, Austin ! Your video just simplified and explained what another youtube video did in a cartoon format ( from Heathrow airport) and it was also a great idea to do the mini bundles...We do something similar, but this video needs to be seen by anyone going on any trip, anywhere. I plan to pack tomorrow ! What a big help...p.s. if you ever get a chance, you could be on " Big Bang" theory..have you ever seen Jim Parson's fold a t shirt ( Dr. Sheldon Cooper)...I learned a lot. Thanks for posting.
Forgot to mention that unfortunately where we come from bags are often opened and things remove and stolen! It would seem that with this method it would be a lot more difficult to access, although we always bubble wrap our luggage to prevent belongs being stolen and since we have done this we have arrived with everything we packed still in the case!
Brilliant, how much you were able to fit in there and so neat. But no shoe bags? I would think that they might get dirty and mess up the suitcase and transfer odors, even new shoes have a smell. 👍 Thank you for the demo.
Bundle wraping is great for going home but on the way out it totally sucks unless you are going to one place and totally unpacking. How else do you get the button down shirt you want when it's wrapped in a interlocking pile? You don't! I like to get at what ever I want quickly.
When I pack like this, I do it inside the suitcase by just laying out the clothes on the bottom of one side of the suitcase. When I fold it up, there is so much space left on the sides for shoes or other clothes. Then the entire other side of the suitcase is still empty.
I think you did an awesome job. I am going on a cruise and I loved packing like you showed me. It let me put a lot of stuff on the bottom of my suitcase. Ignore all those rude comments that people made to you. Their just being stupid. If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Keep up the great work!! :)
Agreed 9 pairs of pants is overkill. I would usually bring Max 3 pairs or even just 2. One pair of jeans and one smart pair. Shirts, underwear and socks are more important to have more off
Good idea but it will be difficult to manage if you need your stuff in bits and pieces. Good if you're directly going to a place, unpacking in a closet and using your stuff.
This would be a fine method for going on a cruise or a stay at one hotel or a resort. This would be a nightmare if going on a tour or a road trip or any trip with multiple stops.
I usually pack a 10 days worth of clothing, no matter how long my trip is. And just do laundry every 10 days. When it comes to pants you can wear more then once. More important is clean underwear, socks and shirt each day. So need 10 pairs of that. But pants wise have 3 pairs, one smart, 2 casual & 2 shorts
thanks a lot I'm going to pack this way from now, before i put my mother make my luggage because its became me crazy, didn't find enough space when a have to make my luggage.. thanks thanks
Can you do this with a bigger checked bag? Does it work the same way? I came to London, been here over 2 months and did more clothes shopping than I'd like to admit. Although I won't take back most of the clothes I came with, I still have a lot to take back home. Please help. Thank you!
The most important airport tip: For shorter flights, wear a suit. Trust me, you will not get luggage checks, people will be nicer to you and you'll be prioritized over others.
