Super video Sarah! I went on my first European vacation last month and I'm so glad I watched your videos before hand. You would have laughed to see so many of the items that you recommend in your videos. You made my trip so much more comfortable than it would have been had I not found your channel. I am so grateful that you take the time to share your wealth of knowledge. Thank you, thank you and a thousand times, thank you
This was a fun topic. I have a little pouch that I keep stocked in my plane bag - it's got bandaids, dramamine, various other meds in a little altoid tin, a flashlight, pen, earplugs, spare teeny reading glasses, a tide pen, antibiotic ointment. It's a little bigger than your box, but it works well for me.
As a mother and a Registered Nurse, I love feeling prepared for emergencies but also love to pack light, even during my day to day life. Except for the glue dots, I carry everything else you showed in a small clear pouch that zips closed. It's small enough to keep in my small crossover purse, but carries a lot of items. I also keep a good pair of tweezers, a small nail file, a tiny folding pair of scissors, and tiny little flossing brushes that the dentist gave me.
This is great! I do something similar using a mini eagle creek packing cube. I have a handful of tiny bottles of essential oils, muscle rub, ibuprofen, bandaids, first aid/bug bite stick,, Moleskin, tweezers, nail clippers. I keep it pretty simple based on what I’ve consistently used in the past and it works great. I always carry a similar bag in my regular purse on the daily.
I have a similar pack in my daypack when we travel. Most of the same stuff, since each of your items makes total sense! I pack mine in a mesh pack that came with my Rick Steves travel towel 12 years ago. I carry the travel towel and wash cloth in my pack, too, if we're traveling by car and can accommodate the weight. The wash cloth can be used on camera lenses, the towel makes a great picnic "blanket" or picnic table cloth...or blanket... and either can be used for their intended purpose when things get messy or we get caught in the rain. :) Love your videos!! You've made me a 16 pound packer!
I carry a similar kit. Mine includes a small tube of gum-numbing gel. Seems I always bite my gums! Also, if use hearing aides, an extra set if have and battery.
I always carry Immodium (anti-diarrheal) and Tagamet or other heartburn relief. Also a Tide pen which is a little large for your box but I use a small zipper bag - comes in handy every time I travel.
I have one little extra thing that i carry always and use all the time - tweezers. but not normal-size tweezers, you can buy a replacement one for a swiss army knife for a couple dollars, they are teeny, weigh nothing, and work!
I carry much of what you have recommended and the others have as well. In addition, instead of a tied stick which comes up in your other videos, I use those tiny sample containers you get at makeup counters and Sephora. I carry goop in one of them, excellent for stains. I also carry antibacterial wipes. Small amounts of both duct tape and surgical tape. When I was on heavy duty blood thinners I carried wound seal in a small container. Now that I'm just on baby aspirin I still carry afrin, has proven very helpful for nosebleeds.
You could add a small book of matches. You can sterilize one of the needles in a flame, and use it to get out a sliver or a bee sting or pop a blister. 🙂
Thanks for the great video! I have small cable/zip ties and some Gorilla duct tape wrapped around a small plastic card (credit card size) so it's flat. Both items would fit into your wonderful "box of awesome."
That kitty looks like trouble :D I carry almost all you showed, except the krazy glue (but I will from now on). About medications I like to carry Excedrin, generic loratadine, generic ranitidine, Imodium, Tums, and cold medicine. I added a small pair of scissors to my sewing kit and has come handy more than once.
I usually hike when I take trips. I have a kit in a Altoid box: water purifier tabs, single use glue, waterproof matches, tea candle, needle, razor blade (can't take on plane), very small roll of floss (can sew with it), safety pins, etc. I believe it is 3 of the ten essentials for hiking. I take a first aid kit in a quart ziplock bag. Leucotape is very good. Can put on blisters, attach bandages, etc.
A little late watching your video (about 4 years too late!). When you travel, long-term, do you carry some thing in your bag to replenish the supplies if they get used by somebody along the way (ie, More insect wipes etc)?
Couple of questions: For air travel would you have to pull out that glue and place it in 3-1-1 bag? Also for international travel, ever have any security issues/questions re your tube of misc. OTC meds? I thought the standard recommendation was to have any sort of medicine labeled or in a bottle (although that is cumbersome when all you need is a couple of Benadryl, pepto etc. or is that just for prescription drugs?
Interesting question, I never thought of that. I have always just dumped my meds (prescription and non) into an mini-altoids tin and never had any trouble with security.
I have added a kid size chemical ice pack (Target) I had a guy racing for the Eurostar train roll his bag over my foot. No ice on the train. Lost that toe nail as a result several months later!
