Nanika-Kidprice Provincial Park is a 42,000 acre park in British Columbia, Canada, located within the traditional territory of the Wet’suwet’en First Nation. This was my first visit (in August, 2021), and I throughly enjoyed it! My gear list is here: www.diypackraft.com/30-day-so...
Packraft camping vlog.

Stunning scenery. What a beautiful area. The raft seems to track really well. Too bad about not being in stock.

Water flow measurements are done in a cross section across the river. They would use the cable car and stick instruments down to take measurements at set intervals and then calculate the total volume of water flowing. They would likely just fly into the site on floats to do these manual measurements which are used to calibrate the readings from the water level gauge on site.

That makes sense - a system designed by people who don't have to justify the expense. A boat tethered to a cable would do the same job at a fraction of the cost. It's annoying because there are cable cars for public use in other parks, but this one is locked up. Hopefully the bridge inspector rides in on the same helicopter as the hydrologist instead of making a separate trip to check that it's safe to sit there unused for another year.

@@DIYPackraft Fair point, I know at times they do use boats or even wading depending on the river or stream. I have seen those cables places where the river current is strong enough a boat system probably wouldn't work, especially during freshet. Maybe not the case here? At any rate I would imagine it makes it quicker for them to get in and out.

That was an incredible trip. How long ago was it recorded? Nothing sucks more than packrafting against the wind, except maybe packrafting against wind and rain. Re: the shock cord in the tent - I have a tarptent aeon li where they didn’t use a long shock cord to hold up the bathtub floor, and when i rolled over in the night it just tore the tent. I think the dan durston x-mid pro is likely the safest bet.

Thanks! This was August of ‘21. And good tip about the shock cord - I hadn’t thought of that. I guess I’ll have to be careful. I like what I’ve seen of the X-mid too. These tents are so expensive it’s hard to stomach an upgrade at this point though. My next shelter will probably be a hammock, because where I live trees are plentiful but flat ground is sometimes hard to find. Cheers

@@DIYPackraft I actually came to the comments to ask if you'd considered a hammock! after years of sleeping on the ground on backpacking trips i made my DIY hammock setup and it's just one of those unbelievable game changing things that i regularly want to slap myself for not trying sooner. It's super easy to make all your own stuff on the cheap with any bargain sewing machine, and my hammock/bug net/quilt/under-quilt/tarp setup is lighter than any tent/sleeping bag setup i've ever used. hit me up if you have questions! thanks for this great video too!

This was in August of 2021 and I didn't weigh my pack with food, but it's pretty much this gear plus food and water weight (there's a link to my detailed gear spreadsheet on this page): www.diypackraft.com/30-day-solo-hikingpackrafting-expedition-gear-list-reviews/

Nice video, and high quality video's. Great to watch. I was wondering how do you keep yourself dry? I can imagine that your feet will get wet, but also you pants (due to all water dripping from your paddles). How do you manage tot keep yourself dry? Greeting from the Netherlands.

Thanks! Usually I manage to stay pretty dry by finding a steep beach or rock or log to step out on, and when I enter the packraft I sort of flop in butt-first. You can see me doing those things in this video. My paddle doesn’t really drip when the blades are feathered (set at different angles, which they are unless I have a nice tailwind) because the top blade is relatively horizontal. It also helps that the blades are wide instead of narrow, so there’s a low spot where water can drip off the blade instead of running down the shaft. I carry rain pants for when it rains, and sometimes I place my inflation bag over my legs as well. I have Goretex socks that I sometimes use. I still do get very wet if it rains all day though!
