These flamenco guys start before the age of 5 and many don't even go to school. Only playing, singing and dancing all day and play at night in tablaos to make a living. And they play with 10 people singing, clapping and tap damcing. That builds up your technique to have an articulate and piwerful sound.

I'm from south Spain, and one of my music teachers told me a story about Paco de Lucía, he made an inaudible mistake by the audience in a show, and he immediately stopped playing, apologised and left. That's the kind of person we are witnessing here

Paco de Luthia... Lucía... That accent above the letter "i" tells you where to stress pronounciation... Listen to the "Concierto de Aranjuez " played by him... It's Sublime!

This song is like a rite of passage for every flamenco player, you always want to play it faster than anyone else and inevitably make some mistakes. You end up sick of the song because you've played it so many times. Edit: The bongos help a lot.

The pickguard covering such an area is because in flamenco you can tap with the thumb over the strings or tap with the fingers (one, two, three, all of them) under the strings, depending on what you want to do and how you want to sound (the "golpe", "hit", is a whole flamenco technique on itself.)

Siempre dio la sensación de haber nacido pegado a la guitarra, la verdad. La tocaba magistralmente con la misma naturalidad con que los demás respiramos, como si no costara nada. Artistas así no hay en esta época.

They are beautiful pieces but these rumbas, Mediterranean Sundance and Tico Tico are more the comercial stuff. Real flamenco are bulerias, soleá, fandango, tangos, tarantas, etc. And his collaboration with Camaron de la Isla are the real deal. Dominating these rhythms and improvising with the singers takes years and years even if you have good or even the best technique and speed. It's a whole other world. That makes the flamenco have an incredible technique.

Paco, Di Meola, McLaughlin made the best ever guitar album/concert: Friday night in San Francisco. I would say Paco was the lead guitar there, although Di Meola and McLaughlin are great too. Album is from the 80s and I think he felt ashamed and very shy because he could not read music back then and his companions could Paco, best guitar player ever. Genius

Great video... and the second one I've watched from you. It's always interesting to hear, someone who knows about a theme, talking and offering his impressions about it. About his name. For a foreigner Spanish, you pronounce his name something like this: PAcou deLUsia (capital letters mark the accent) In fact, it's very near as it factually is: PAco de luCIa I mean, the O should sound like in "call" (Pacall xD), but without the final L. De Lucía needs an space, instead of everything together (not DeLucia, but De Lucia). Lucía got the accent in the I and the C sounds like TH in "Thanks". Well... anyways. xD You'll probably won't read this and if you do, you probably won't be much interested in that... xD But, who knows? At least, I've tried to explain step by step the best I can. ^^ The only thing I expect is that if you read this, you won't feel I'm imposing anything... I know I sound pedantic with all these explanations xD but I've only tried to explain, the best i could, the details of the different accents... English and Spanish are way different (specially in the phonetic use of the vowels)!! But all my respects to you and if you read this, thanks for the video. ^^

Hey mate, loved your reaction and your knowledge, Paco was and absolute genious. I wanted yo share a bit of information with you: as a flamenco guitarrist you’ll find yourself hitting the body of the guitar with your fingernails in order to accentuate some notes or chords, and since this happens both in the upper and in the lower part of the guitar, that’s why most flamenco guitars have a double pickguard. I think now you understand why it makes us Spaniards laugh when we see lists of the best guitarists in the world and Paco is not included. In a list from 1 to 100, the first 10 positions are for Paco, from 11 to 20 they are distributed between Andres Segovia, Ramon Montoya and Manolo Sanlucar The rest of the guitarists are from 21 onwards. Paco nunca estudio musica . El era todo por oido y impiracion con muchisimas horas de practica creo que llego a decir una vez que practicaba 8 o 10 horas al dia no se si sera cierto lo que si es seguro que dedicaba mucho tiempo a ello.

Great reaction. 🇧🇷 If you like classical guitar, you should take a look at more brazilian composers like Villa-lobos, Dilermando Reis, Jacob do bandolin, Marco Pereira, Zequinha de Abreu and so many others...

No no, the tap board is up and down the strings because the flamenco player may tap the hermonica(guitar top) above the strings with the thump(golpe) and under the string. This piece is muscle flexing..actually not cool, paco did it just to rid of classic world bulleying him..once and for all If you wanna see his ultimate speed, you gotta look in his concerts in 'entra de saguas' piece right before the closure. Funny thing is that 'entra do saguas' is the piece that got him famous, and although he added it just to fill the record, it was not composed by him, he was actually just covering a brazillian female guitarist (whose name i cant recall).
