The problem is that we let the Police and prisons got so big(largely inflated due to the losing War on Drugs), that a lot of people have deluded themselves that we need a police for every little thing like traffic stops and on non violent offenses. All we really need is a solid SWAT team, a significantly smaller police force, and more legit detective working these actual violent crimes. My favorite example of this is when the NYPD got all cocky and did a mass call out the day of an officers funeral. They started making comments about how "CHAOS would flood the streets". Literally nothing bad happened. There wasn't a mass crime spree. The only thing that happened was that those cops showed up the next day instead of an hour later claiming "there's nothing we can do". . . . .THEN WHY DO WE FUND YOUR ASSES.
