My premature atrial contractions have subsided just by watching your videos.. I found you today, the same day i was diagnosed.. When i got home and hit Google i was a mess and sure i was about to die.. Its now 4am, i have watched most of your videos.. I am calm and i am relaxed.. No palpitations at all.. Thank you so much my friend.. You are awesome..
So helpful, thanks Sanjay - I retired from Nursing as a Practice Nurse at 76 and have never taken the time to understand ECG’s. Is it true that if the pulse is regularly irregular it is not Afib?
I was diagnosed recently at a hospital with PVCs. They don't happen 24/7. However, when I am under stress, or have exercised too hard (a bad habit of mine), they are numerous. The doctors told me my EKG is good, and bloodwork is good, and told me not to worry so much about the PVCs. They told me to get more sleep (because I don't sleep enough), maybe take up Yoga to relieve stress, and stay hydrated, because I don't drink enough fluids through the day. And, no, I don't drink anything or eat anything with caffeine.
Another fascinating video helping me understand my arrhythmia. Looking at the AFA forum people are frightened because they don't understand what is happening to them, as you say stress makes it worse and knowledge is power. I can't thank you enough.
Can I say how refreshing it is to hear this video explaining what is happening. It is apparent that you are far more knowledgeable than the doctors in my area. My general physician sent me to be hooked up to a halter monitor for 2 days because of some random episodes of extreme weakness and lightheadedness to the point of falling to the ground.. I didn't have an attack of what sent me to the doctor in the first place but they did diagnose a significant amount of PVCS, most of which I didn't even feel. The issue I had was that they told me not to worry about them because they are benign. I went home and did a ton of research and learned that there can be problems for people with sleep apnea, hypoxia, and heart problems. I insisted on seeing a cardiologist. Initially the cardiologist thought that I was blowing everything out of proportion, but he did schedule for me to have an echocardiogram and a thallium stress test. The tests discovered that I have a heart murmur, 3 leaky valves, and an enlarged heart (on the inside, not the outside). This is where I get angry. Angry for the doctors that don't take the time to explain everything to you. Angry that they trivialize your concerns. Angry that I have to do my own research rather than rely on a physician that apparently is either too busy, or not skilled enough to help us. Of course I still don't have an answer to the original reason I went to the doctor. Have you ever thought to move to the US? lol
From what I’ve learned about my heart leaking valves are a big deal unless it’s very significant. Pvs are common in most healthy people. As are leaky valves. But usually it’s caused from triggers. Like stress caffeine smoking sleep apnea etc.
Thank you so so much! You just freaking broke down PAC, PVC and PSVC so well in layman’s terms even a dummy will get it. I’m so glad I found this video! It will definitely help me with my rhythm exams.
Great explanation Dr.Gupta, I have learned so much by watching your videos , and your so easy to understand.Thank you for the privilege of your time . God bless and take care
I really enjoyed this video. The geek-speak is the stuff I love and please keep sharing and presenting this kind of information. It's such a joy to be educated by an expert. Thank you.
I as a woman have also noticed that when my hormones are balanced I no longer have heart palpitations and arrhythmias. I noticed when I quit taking my hormones my heart palpitations came back and I started having anxiety attacks. I promise you if you get your hormones checked it's going to relieve you of many health issues and one of them is heart palpitations. Why the doctors don't tell us this is beyond me. If you don't have a balance of progesterone and estrogen and your testosterone balance your body will wreak havoc on you so people you have to be your own doctor and make sure that your hormones are balanced because it will solve a lot of your problems.
Thank you so much. I was having a problem with these last night. I'm a paramedic student in New York city. Right now we are focusing on 3 leads. The difficulty I have other than being a slow learner, is remembering the rules for each arrhythmia. I was calling Some of these premature rhythms idioventricular, and what not. Showing I don't have a clue. We are shown a strip and we have 30 seconds to identify the strip. I was having the most difficulties with anyone with the "P's", so this video helped a lot. Thank you. I'm going to re watch this a few more times so I can master it. I loved the way you've explained the drum guy. Now if you can do the same for the most critical rythm that would be cool.
Absolutely excellent. 'Technical is what we 'people who care about our hearts need, but in the more simplified, civilian-interpretation form you presented here. Cheers. Jim/Maryland
I never did understand what SVT was . Wish I’d heard this back in 1966 in nursing school . Back then the big news was the first every heart transplant . Always Exciting times in medicine . Thanks for sharing . You are amazing , sweet and handsome too
Thank you dear Mr Gupta for sharing important information and making the basic understanding of the different diagnosis understandable/Antonio,Thailand.
Thank u doc..ur videos have given me new life.i feel so much secure now after suffering for over 40 yrs and all wrong medications.few peanuts as a source of magnesium as u suggested in ur videos has helped me to deal my palpitations. 🙏.from India
I have found, what seems successful, a prevention for PACs, which tend to lead up to my AFB sometimes. Aggressive treatment of Esophageal Reflux. I noticed an increase in PAC's with big meals and reflux. On the other hand if I did not eat or drink something I would also get PAC's, that would go away when I did eat. I am thinking it may be acidity from the lower esophagus that sits right beside, if not touching the Atrium of the heart. So far, using proton pump inhibitors, I have pretty much eliminated my PAC's.
@@heartchakra2 Still doing fine. I have replaced prescription meds with turmeric and now have my reflux and PaC's controlled. Haven't taken any prescriptions in months.
@@heartchakra2 Yes, it has anti-inflammatory effect. I actually, discovered it by accident. I bought some spicey pickles, and they are spiced with Turmeric. When I ate some of these pickles, I had no problem with reflux. So, I started eating 4 pickle slices when I had reflux and it worked better than tums. After using it as a med for a month I was suddenly reflux free and now I rarely take anything for reflux and eat whatever I want. It may sound crazy but it works.
Literally exact same symptoms here, all seems to be made worse by anxiety/stress. Holter showed PAC’s and a few PVC’s but nothing to worry about. Just been to the Dr’s for GERD and the ectopics always seem to happen around bloating/burping/reflux, also if I’ve not eaten. Prescribed a month of PPI’s with antacids when needed so let’s see how we get on. I’ve also started drinking Tumeric milk
I was recently diagnosed with PVC, PAC. not happy with my cardiologist. I saw him twice 4 mins each time did not explain anything and told me no coffee, tea , alcohol He said they can go away but not so sure
Mine are more complex, I have pvcs and some different kind of beats very disturbing not Pause and thud type. But like some one stumbling while walking. And tacycardia ofc sometimes. Where would you put mine beats?
Hi Doc. If we are in a situation with a rudimentary two-lead ECG, how definite can we be when differentiating between the many premature ectopic beats? Thanks.
I started having pvc's after taking zpak in which I developed muscle twitches all over my body. Was told twitches were nerve damage from the antibiotics. Would pvc's be caused from nerve damage, kind of like these muscle twitches/spasms??? I noticed taking muscle relaxers makes them worse but nerve meds like xanax make them better.
I'm not a doctor but I'd guess that because alcohol increases GABA which can reduce anxiety while drinking, it will or can reduce ectopic beats. The day after is when your ectopic beats are more likely to increase at least that's my experience. Although I did get the worst case of PAC's I've ever had when drunk literally every beat for about 5 minutes several times for about an hour and a half were ectopic thought I was in A fib. Had this experience twice in my life both times I was drunk and in very stressful situations. These days I get them daily for weeks on end several per day then they go away for months even though I don't drink anymore.
Taking a 1/4 tsp of taurine with a mouthful of water is a safe, healthy, and fast way to raise GABA, unless you've had stimulants-then it turns into glutamate and makes you worse. I take taurine almost every night because my heart gets worse at bedtime and it not only normalizes my heart but it makes me fall asleep like a baby-all within 20 minutes. Taurine is also an osmolyte, so it balances your elecrtolytes, and it's a powerful antioxidant more concentrated in the heart than anywhere else in the body. Hearts love taurine (much more than beer), but it's destroyed by cooking. Raw fish is the only good source, and half the population doesn't make enough of their own taurine in the body due to genetics.
Is there a connection between left calf pain and PVC’s? My stress test came positive for PVCs and rare PACs. I noticed my calf pain began at the same time. Can you please reply? Anyone else have this?
Sir, you teach/explain so very well, you make sense of a seemingly difficult topic. I am a nurse and I am revising for an ECG exam, this has really helped so thank you. I use a variety of learning materials. May I ask advice as to how to consolidate my learning. I need to understand Rate, rhythm, axis, morphology. I understand much of this but I find it confusing going between different morphologies, for example. PAC, blocks and conduction blocks such as RBBB.
Hello Dr Sanjay hope you are doing good. I am very much upset about my PVCs I diagnosed. Is it curable ? My Dr gave me a beta blocker .is it enough to take beta blocker .
Hi Doctor i am one of your follower i want clarify my dought when i check the bp i could hear 2 systolic sound ( 140 sys and its silent & 120 again i hear the sound ) i am a nurse please my doughts Thanks for great lecture , God bless
Every stress test or echo stress test or metabolic stress test I've ever had Done... Dr. Said I had a strong heart... But there was ST sagging on my ecg ' s ... Every time... can you explain what ST sagging is???
thanks for the info very good and helpful. I had a question, until I was about 12 years old I never had or at least felt any pvcs, At around 12 years of age I had an incident where I got severely electrocuted by a shock, so bad I passed out. At about 14 years of age I had an ecg and they found that I had pvcs shortly thereafter I began feeling them especially when after playing football as my heart rate was slowing down. For many years after that I felt them very seldom yet at around 37-38 years of age they began coming with a vengeance I had all kind of heart workups as well as a echo cardiogram and much more, Everything came out good and there was no cardiac issues and I was given a clean bill. My question is, can my episode of electrocution cause some unbalance in any of my so called pace makers? I also noticed that when we are getting severe thunderstorms my pvcs increase by a lot. I have the impression that highly electro charged atmosphere bothers me and I do suspect that the problem in my case was caused by that electrocution. can it have caused a permanent damage to the sinus rhythm in my heart?
im currently getting checked out by my cardiologist but i believe im getting PVCs usually just one at a time but they make me soo light headed sometimes i feel like im going to die or pass out. and since i got the first one my anxiety is so high i cant function sometimes its so terrifying. and i hate when i feel bad and go to the hospital and they only do an ecg and blood test and tell me im ok and let me go iv been in there 10 times now mayby they should progress it further obviously what there testing isn''t enough its so hard to get help im doing everything i can
Hi, I've got Wolff-Parkinson-White.. Had Svt.. Heartbeat 270s a min. 4 heart ablations. Now Pacs..take beta blocker.. There's got to be exercise.. Or something. I'm so tired of these.. So frequently.
@@preciousjojo7788 I am sorry to hear this dear. I know it isn’t the same but I have had SVT with the rate 260. It is very scary. I had an ablation which seems to have helped and rid me of that. However I do still get more PVCs now and PACs more than I ever did. I do wish I could be rid of all this too! On one hand doctors say don’t worry about pvcs with a structurally sound heart, and others say it is still concerning!
Probably an ectopic beat I get it all the time hope this helps and your ectopic beats will be either one or more of the 3 the doctor mentions on this video I'm not completely sure though so your best option will be to do your homework and see your doctor 👍@Paul antoine
@@Stacey_Hunter I went to the doctor I did an heart exam they didn't see anything, I remember the first time hearing it is when I had Thypoid fever then it went away.. But it's been 2mnths and a half I still. Hear them. I used to smoke cigarettes now I quit its been 2 months I don't know it that what cause them... But sometimes I can go 2 days not hearing them they can be scary and annoying
@@paulantoine8443 I'm not sure but they say smoking is bad for the heart! So probably. I would say it's a good thing that you have quit. I have done some breathing exercises that York cardiology mentioned in another video which is breathe in for 5 seconds and breathe out for another 5 seconds and do that for at least 5-10 minutes hope this helps I done this breathing exercise this morning and so far I've had NO ectopics!!! I've been having loads of them so fingers crossed 🤞🤞
I have had pvc for about 10 years. They can be so scary i know. I used to have bad panic attacks too. They are so much better now and I rarely get panic attacks either.I am on a very very low dose of a beta blocker Atenolol 25 mgs that I cut into fourths. I think that helps.I exercise, lift weights everything with no problem. Alcohol and caffeine really can bring them on though. I totally try to stay away from both. I wish you good luck.
@@shellnbs1 hi, I'm really concerned about what the doctor said in this video. He mentions that a series of about 100 pvcs can cause the heart to weaken and that can cause VF I have really bad episodes of pvcs which I'm convinced could easily be a series of them really worrying im due for a holter monitor in a couple of weeks I'm really hoping it can catch something
