A video from a recent trip on the PS Waverley, traveling from Southampton to Yarmouth to Swanage and then along the Jurassic Coast to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door before retracing her steps back to Southampton Docks.
Launched in 1946 and completing her maiden voyage in 1947, PS Waverley is currently the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world, and celebrating her 75th anniversary this year. Above decks passengers can enjoy the views, shiny varnished seating and polished bronze fittings, while down below there is the mesmerising triple expansion steam engine, producing 2100hp at 58rpm, and a pair of portholes to watch the paddles through, as well as a restaurant, bar, and cafe.
The steam engine, while fascinating, does burn through fuel at an astonishing £11 per minute, so to support the Waverley or book a trip, do look at their website: waverleyexcursions.co.uk
The music in this video is 'A Diamond Waltz for Waverley' by Ross Miller and friends, written to celebrate the 75th anniversary of PS Waverley.
