I have been going to the Natch since 1974. I was shown the vision cave there by the elders, did my ritual, and spent a few weeks looking for moose with them,... and fell in love with that cliff! I have seen sunrises (and moon rises too) that made you catch your breath. Hundreds of sunsets have I seen from that flat rock at the top. Over the years, we would spend two weeks there every fall and were the people who maintained that trail up the cliff. About 30 years ago, I was up there for some alone time and occupied myself with opening up that spring of fresh water. I have not been there for 6 years, and am glad to see that both of those efforts have paid off for others.
Wow! Very cool to hear! I was there again this year, and it's as magical as ever. You might appreciate this series of videos that I just released, of my adventure down the Petawawa from Cedar Lake to McManus - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DjHwUzaghWw.html
Great video. Two things 1. Barrels definitely not bear proof. Keep a clean camp and take the barrel well away from camp at night. I’ve seen people string them up trees but my experience (and that of many others) is simply getting the barrel well away from camp and relatively hidden is enough. 2. You can have 9 people on a site in Algonquin. A great section of the park, and a well done video.
Mine too! I haven't canoed the upstream section yet. I'm dying too! I did whitewater kayak it at high water by hiking up the railroad from Traverse Lake, but that was just a day trip, and I only made it about half way to Cedar Lake before launching.
This was so informative and very interesting. I remember watching the original video thinking are they crazy taking that raft. Very much enjoyed this and looking forward to more.😘
Earlier this year I went on an outward bound trip on canoes down the petewawa. The natch was the most beautiful place on the river. Also the campsite at the natch that you guys stayed at was the same as ours
Thanks for the great video and a lot of helpful information! By any chance are you planning on doing a paddling guide of Petawawa River from Cedar Lake to Lake Travers?
I would love to do that paddling guide! I haven't actually done that whole section yet. I've hiked up the rail bed with my whitewater kayak to run the core whitewater section of it, but I can't wait to run the Petawawa from Cedar lake all the way to McManus Lake!
@@PaddleTV Much appreciate your reply! I am hoping to paddle Cedar Lake to Lake Travers and Lake Travers to Lake McManus this year, so any information is really helpful. And special thank you for recommending Petawawa river whitewater guide on Algonquin Outfitters website and water level gauge. This is going to help me a lot!
Ha! Good question... the majority of our viewers are American, and I got tired of getting harassed for saying it that way. :) I say it both ways, depending on who I'm speaking with.
How was the experience of portaging the trails carrying the raft and kayaks? Did it take 2 people to carry together? I'd love to figure out a way to over head carry my kayak like a canoe.
We actually didn't have to do any portaging with the kayaks or rafts. We ran them through all the rapids. All three of us are long time whitewater paddlers, and so we were very comfortable doing that. I can tell you that it would have been pretty crappy to portage the sit-on-top kayaks or the raft. That's the joy of the canoe... it's easy to portage and carry gear.
The raft is made by NRS. They make GREAT stuff. This particular raft is discontinued, but it was replaced with the Otter 140 self bailing raft. www.nrs.com/product/1142/nrs-otter-140-self-bailing-raft
@@PaddleTV Thanks for the quick response. I have just noticed that NRS makes high quality raft and kayak. The one shown on the video was field tested and demonstrated it rigidity.
We just finished posting on our channel about a small section of the Petawawa River that we paddled! This was some great information and is seriously making us miss the Park right now during this lockdown. Thanks for sharing, a big thumbs up from fellow creators! Check us out when you get the chance.
@@PaddleTV thanks so much, our channel is relatively new and young, but it has been a ton of fun being creative during this current lockdown. We hope to constantly improve our content and eventually get up there with your caliber of video.
