For toruing: how about checking out Current designs Solstice GT and Solstice GTS. Two of the best touring boats ever designed. Too bad Wilderness Systems doesn't make the Tchaika anymore. Great day tripping boat. The entire kayaking industry of the 1990's and early 2000's really took a hit around the time of the 2008 economic crash and many of the great kayak companies had to completely change their line up of boats, or go under (pun intended). But what a great loss for many of the Wilderness Systems boats and many of the Perception boats as well..... Maybe you could report on some of those boats. Who knows, it might spark a resurgence of interest in having many of those boats manufactured again.

Just found this channel and subscribed. This is the first video I've watched. Unfortunately I have a rule that if I get clickbaited, I have to unsubscribe. And I generally do my best to not watch any channels that think that's okay. You can't sleep in this thing. You knew it. And you made that title to trick people out of their time to watch your video anyway.

Can you do a video on paddle size for inflatable kayaks that are wide and sit high? Mine is 37 inches wide but all of the guides I find usually max out at 28 inches. I'm 5'10" and considering a 250cm just because of the width and seat height, but not sure if this is crazy..

Ken, I watched your review of the Isle Switch Kayak/SUP and the Tahe tandem inflatable Kayak?SUP. Have you taken a look at the BOTE Low Rider inflatable 11.6 tandem? I'm definitely in for a hybrid kayak/SUP, one that I can. paddle with my two 60 lb labradors. Been SUP paddlng with my older one for 7 years and recently got another one who is 9 months old. Can be a challenge paddling with 2. Need stability, enough room in the front for them to sit/lay down, and enough performance for me to enjoy. Been SUP paddling since 2003. Need a comparison among the three mentioned.

I do not understand the point of this video. I do know that P&H Volan kayaks new are $6-to-$7,000. My Volan was $7200. My friends and I run 2-4 foot waves and play in tidal rips. But to run this type of kayak in Class 3-4 rapids is nonsensical. That’s why some kayak manufacturers make River Kayaks. BTW, I’m thinking of taking my Mercedes sedan off-road on a jeep trail.

I have 2 of theses since 3 years. The bag was utter shit before this new bag. If you don't have the red bags change it asap or put it in hard plastic boxes. Change seats for Eva seats. Don't use any of accessories especialy the rod holder. Rod holders can't hold any rod safely. I have lost a rod because of it. So I suggest to buy a kayak with confortable seat (and better, buy a dropstich kayak) and buy a true fisher EVA box to carry your rods.

Finnaly it's a good value if you want to occasionnaly have acces to lakes and make photos. You don't need an expensive kayak for fishing but maybe a Float tube is more viable than this.

Ken, I have to say, this is so hilarious to me! I watch your videos for years and I think you must have seen everything there is to see from a kayak. Living in Florida, kayaking with alligators is so normal to me that seeing them rarely raises my adrenaline. So to see you get a little freaked out is quite funny to me!! Just wait until you spook an unsuspecting manatee that your paddling over! That's an experience that NEVER fails to freak me out.

Just like Sea Eagle is the top inflatable kayak brand in America, so is Gumotex in Europe. I own a Gumotex Rush 1 and I can say exactly the same things about it. Super stable, most versatile of them all, runs smoothly on the sea, and paddles really great with a Greenland paddle. Made of rubber, not PVC. This brand from Czech republic has over 70 years of experience in making inflatable boats. If you ever get a chance to test one, Ken, I highly recommend it - either Rush 1 or Rush 2 from Gumotex (make sure you also get a cockpit kit for it).

My kids or anyone via Instagram or the connect Garmin app can fallow in real time. It’s awesome way to record your trips. I highly recommend the Garmin watches with these features !

There is a place they call “the hole” on the Myakka River where gators are so populated that they lay on top of one another. It’s where a giant sink hole happened in the river, so it is so deep that there are many turtles and fish for the gators to eat. I live in Florida and I have never seen so many alligators in one place. Gators tend to be solitary and chase other gators out of their territory. You must get a pass from the ranger station when entering the park to get the permit to walk the trail down to The Hole. This is so they know how many people went down the trail and to come after you if you don’t return before sundown. That is how dangerous it is. You have to walk down a long trail before coming to the Hole. Certain times of the year that part of the river overflows, so you won’t see as many gators. If you go when it is not overflowed, you will see more gators than you can imagine. There are many gators along the river, but nothing like the population at The Hole. There are hundreds piled on top of each other. They’re all very large because gators will eat any smaller gators in their territory, so any that hang there are too large for the others to eat, making them all large, over 12 feet or more. There are gators up to 15 feet long. If you have a fear of gators, don’t go down that trail. Gators are not aggressive like crocodiles and usually won’t mess with you as long as you don’t mess with them. That’s why gator attacks on people are rare and there has never been an attack by a gator more than five foot from the shore of a lake, river, pond, creek or run. Stay more than five foot from the waters edge and you will be safe.

Of all my kayaks this scorpio mv is my go to boat lately. Awesome boat. Very comfortable seating and love the roomy day hatch.i take this boat in open water and against the tide on rivers and its one of those boats that just keeps giving to get you through. By far my fave plastic boat.

@@PaddleTV and that’s fair enough. In my opinion the best all rounder is the Northshore Atlantic. I struggle with P&Hs. Can’t get comfortable in them which is a shame as my old Sirius was a really nice boat to paddle and the Virgo is a nice little boat with the exception of that skeg.

I have a Scorpio (and its composite sister the Cetus) and they’re absolutely fantastic boats. People tend to think of them as expedition boats but back in the day, P&H marketed the Scorpio as an all rounder and personally I still feel it’s a perfect all rounder too!

Peter here Ken. Thanks for your review of the Scorpio. I have a Scorpio Mk2 LV. I find the cockpit outfitting second to none. You do really feel one with the boat when on the water. My biggest problem was the extremely poor seal between the Kajaksport rubber hatch lids and the moulded hatch rims. All hatches leaked severely. After many options I ended up with a reasonable fix using plastic bin liners under the lids. Not ideal, but on the water who cares. Water intrusion is at least limited when rolling or even surfing. Ironically, when the Scorpio arrived in Aust from the UK after 8 months wait it came with a note in the small front day hatch to beware that that hatch may not be waterproof???. Also I ordered the skeg version. During a paddle with some strong side winds I neded to deploy the skeg. I dropped it all the way down and it essentially disintegrated in the skeg box and needed a replacement. P&H sent a replacement promptly from the UK. Kudos for that. The sail fitting on the Mk2 enabled me to deploy a .7M2 sail without needing to drill any holes other than 2 cleats. The handling of the Scorpio is superb. It is very resistant to weathercocking which means that skeg use is minimal. It is super easy to roll and the low back means an easy roll for those who use a lazy lay-back roll. BTW, I am a big fan of rear day hatches. I have one kayak, a Paddling Perfection Sea Bear, which does not have any rear day hatch and it is an absolute pain having your lunch and coffee and anything else rollong around in the voluminous space created by no day hatch. Also, things such as towrope, stirrup etc, can be handy access on the water. No need for someone to have to come alongside and remove spare paddle and access a large hatch to recover such objects. Just a thought. I very much enjoy for segments and look forward to more. PS, I wish NRS had an outlet here in Australia. Cannot afford the freight from America to replace a couple of NRS Hydraskin tops. My favourite.
@PaddleTV

Thanks for sharing your experience with the boat Peter! Great info. I can totally understand how the rear day hatch is preferred by some people. It totally depends on the type of paddling you're doing, things you want access to, etc. Cheers!
