Absolute legend. He made a one-note character from the Books into one of the best characters on TV.
@JamieBarrington
@JamieBarrington Год назад
For real! He was basically a footnote in that part of Fire and Blood. Paddy brought him to life and gave so much more. Even GRRM said he wants to rewrite that part of the book, because he portrayed it so perfectly. If he doesn't win an Emmy for this, to quote Corlys, "This is an absurdity." Paddy made my cold, dead heart cry for days and that's a rare thing for me in shows. The only other shows that made me cry are Haunting of Hill House and Haunting of Bly Manor. And now House of The Dragon. I guess if a show has a house in it, I can expect that I'll probably cry.

Viserys is probably my favourite character in all of GOT/HOTD. Paddy did an immense job. Goes to show that there are so many amazing actors out there who are just waiting for a big role. I always enjoyed him in movies like Hot Fuzz, but it's great to see him in such a role.

If you haven’t seen it (not many have as it’s a small Indy British film) check out a film named ‘Dead Mans Shoes’ It’s quite old now, but is the film that Paddy fully shines in. It’s a wicked little independent film.

I love how Paddy is so passionate about Viserys. There are scenes where you think Viserys is not being a strong king, however, there is the 'dragon' in him that gets unleashed when he is pushed too hard and we have all seen it, and it is quite frightening, I will admit. But I think he is trying his best to make sure everyone is happy, but it doesn't work. By trying to make sure everyone is happy, he will still upset others.

Great interview. I’m so glad I clicked on it. What a nice wealth of information about king V. I disliked the character at first cuz he wasn’t a brut like Robert. Then I realized he does have a backbone after all. I grew to like his character more and more as the plot unraveled. Episode 8 was so compelling. He played that living rotting corpse so well. Marvelous filmmaking. Bravo 👏 Paddy . Salute 🫡

I saw the episode 8 as sort of a tribute, a memorial to all the people who have died from slow, horrible illnesses. My mother gradually faded away from cancer at home. Now I see that was the main idea for the character development, and I just want to congratulate Paddy for the outstanding work. He has achieved so much in only 8 episodes, whereas some characters are built over the years and seasons for the same effect on audience. Masterfully well-done!

Probably my favourite episode out of the two series. I'm a sucker for character studies and actors just getting the chance to give performances that haunt you. They did so well to make you realise just how strong Viserys is and how unravelled the entire situation had become against what he wanted. He did what he could in his own way, like all characters, good and bad, wrong and right. Ultimately he love he has for his daughter and broken heart he carries are the thing that makes him so relative to an audience.

What an amazing actor and person. I respect and appreciate him so much more than I already did!! His creativity really shows. 💚 He used his own personal tragic life experiences and losses with his parents to further shape his own Viserys. I feel so bad he watched his parents go through what they did. 🥺 It shows unwavering strength to use his personal anguish and pain in his work. Grief never leaves you, it's always fucking there, but to dredge it up and bring it to the surface to help the audience better understand Viserys, just wow!! Even with the New York artist that he liked to create his vision of Viserys face at the end. I'm in awe and think it was very spot on to stand up and tell the director how it was crucial for him to show that Viserys was still a dragon deep down. I've seen actors talk about how they personally relate and shape characters they are playing. But to me, this is on a whole other level. 🖤

I know what he means about people saying he was weak. I thought the same. But after seeing his final acts in his final moments, suddenly what I've always perceived as weak now suddenly is understood as love..as proceeding with the utmost caution because he knows what is at stake and what is to come.. and most of all the courage to move forward against all odds. And I'm not alone in this sentiment, a lot of people have changed their opinion on Paddy after his last episode. When he stepped into that Throne room and turned those smug Hightower smiles upside down... that was powerful.
@KenjiMapes

Great interview. Paddy absolutely crushed it in his acting role as Viserys. He deserves some recognition & some awards. I think Ep8 really brought all his previous work together & the throne room scene really allowed Paddy to shine. It was so powerful & moving. As soon as the throne room went silent, the doors opening & the King’s Guard knight started bellowing his titles: “King Viserys of House Targaryen. The first of his name. King of the Andals, and the Rhoynar, and the First Men. Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Protector of the Realm” as King Viserys walked in weakened but like a boss, he showed he was a tough mofo & a legend. That should make anyone even the most stoic person a bit teary eyed. Viserys did that walk which required Herculean effort in his frail state was done purely on love & will.

At that point he really won me over and it made watching him whither away very hard to watch. So glad to see Paddy in good health/spirits he nailed that role so well. Well done ser, well done. When youre creating a character, living in a world of fantasy, As an actor to make it relatable, its hard. He does this brilliantly, by doing the work. Talking about real world issues, like illegal wars, political support and divisions, family. This fact that we remember people in reality that are just plain bad, because its more fun to watch a train wreck than to see the kind, good things we do in the world, is disappointing as a society, but true. We hope to remember more of the Viserys in this world than the Joffreys and Otto's. Just gonna add the fact that he mentions 'duty' several times is something on pointe. In reality, knowing that Queen ElizabethII passed recently, she mentioned the importance of duty to the crown to the nation, regardless of the actual power she had. It is a Symbol and the symbol and how its viewed around the world or "realm" can be powerful.
