@@ThePadelSchool Agreed! However, its a horrible experience watching yourself the first time. While we've never ever thought of ourselves as good padel players yet, its still scary watching how clumsy and slow you actually are/look at recreational level :D But very informative indeed!

These videos are worth their weight in gold! I've come back to the first one many a time, even though the standard of play is much higher than ours. Question: do high level players prefer to take the serve early right after the first bounce if possible, or do you prefer to let it hit the glass? Most of these returns seem to be "half-volleyish" flat blocks into the opponents feet. Thanks!
@ThePadelSchool
@ThePadelSchool 4 года назад
Niklas Broman glad you like them. To be honest, I think high level players are equally happy to play before glass or after. So the decision is purely objective, “will I have more space from the glass if I contact before or after?” The reason I like to hit before the glass is because my opponent has less time to come forward (but after I also have more time to see the court)...it depends. Does that help?!
@Buurmanni
@Buurmanni 4 года назад
@@ThePadelSchool Yeah, I was actually prepared for the classic "it depends on the situation", but the fact that you actually don't prefer either from a difficulty standpoint is very interesting. What I've also noticed is the serves in your games are a bit faster, so that you almost have more options when returning the serve. In our games the serves that hit the side glass usually don't have the steam in the to be played after the back glass. And to be clear, my returns after the side glass need a lot of work! Next time I'm going to position myself in the middle of the service square like you do; that way I'll have more room to hit after the side glass. Thanks for answering and thank you for the work you do with this channel, it really is much appreciated!
@ThePadelSchool
@ThePadelSchool 4 года назад
Niklas Broman yes, you bring up an interesting point and one of the most common errors with the return. Players don’t like hitting after the glass, so they stand closer to the glass to avoid it and therefore put themselves in a difficult returning position where they really cannot play with the glass! Giving yourself space will actually make your life easier with the return! Let me know how it goes! 👍

Hi Sandy! Thanks a lot for your excellent padel content, keep up the good work! One practical question regarding this video: aren't the serves at 3:30 and 3:40 both illegal? The server doesn't have his feet inside the service box. I see this very often but for some reason it's really uncommon for anybody to call them out. Why? I find it strange since this creates additional angle for the server and thus a potential benefit.
@ThePadelSchool
@ThePadelSchool 4 года назад
Hey Christer, firstly, it could potentially be slightly over the line, you are right. If you look his right foot isn't in contact with the ground and the left foot is borderline. For the reason people don't call players up on it, because at that level players wouldn't consider it to make enough of a difference to point it out. The return mistake would be considered an unforced error in most of these matches and him being slightly over the line would not alter the difficulty of the return (he's serving to me, so I think that's probably my opinion haha). I guess padel is not so strict with these rules and more professionally regulated sports. That would be my guess.

@@ThePadelSchool Thanks for your quick reply. It makes sense. I still, however, feel that it can be a bit of a slippery slope if these kind of rather clear rules are not taken seriously.

Christer Bergström absolutely agree. It’s difficult because there aren’t really enforced at the professional level so even less so at lower levels...

Thanks for great videos. I thougt you guys played more serve return before hitting the side glass then i had expected, especially on the backhand side. (Saw a video from you about general advice when to hit before or after). Any comments on that?
@ThePadelSchool
@ThePadelSchool 3 года назад
Interesting question. Actually at this level it is almost better for us to aim for the separation in the glasses (a bit deeper) forcing players to come forward and take it before or have to play immediately after the glass. So often players aim for slightly less angle and a deeper rebound. The players here would be very capable if the ball hits the front part of the glass regardless of the spin and speed. So if you notice there aren't as many coming in with angle to that front part...therefore players more often step forward to cut off that ball. Does that make sense?
@Hovadeviking
@Hovadeviking 3 года назад
@@ThePadelSchool Thanks, yes makes sense. I probably didn't notice the angle enough, and as you wrote when you guys serve at the front glass it's almost no bounce... Thanks for good reply!👍

Sandy, great video as always. I notice when your partner serves the ball seems be close to going over waste height when he hits the ball. How close is his serve to being illegal? I ask because I got called out on it two days in a row when the other team said my serve was too high. I think they just aren't used to a serve coming fast (because they haven't watched and applied your service videos like I have 😎) so they assumed it was high when it really wasn't. I know the best way to tell would be to video myself, but just curious for this example.

Yes, I would say its borderline, but ok...difficult to know unless you watch yourself!

Question, the guy in the red shirt at 3:31, is he hitting his serve offside over the centerline, I watched your video on service and to me he is out of bounds when he makes his serve, am I right or wrong ?

@@ThePadelSchool hello and thank you! I am also wondering: After you hit the ball are you allowed to continue the swing over the the opponents side (if you stand very close to the net)
@ThePadelSchool
@ThePadelSchool 4 года назад
If the ball has already crossed your side of the net (dropshot with lots of spin or a ball that bounces hard off the back glass) and it’s going back over your opponents side you can actually reach over the line of the net and play the ball, as long as you don’t touch the net...
