I did my IDC & MSDT training at Sairee Cottage Diving with Platinum Course Director Marcel Van Den Berg and I couldn't have made a better decision. The experience I had at Sairee was unbelievable; I learned so much in the short time that I was there, and I made amazing memories. The knowledge and expertise of Marcel and the whole staff are not only outstanding, but they manage to share it with you in such a fun and relaxed way. I was definitely concerned before starting my IDC as it was a very big step for me, and I had heard about how difficult it can be. Marcel took that stress away. By the end of the IDC all of us were completely over prepared for the IE and I knew there was no way I was going to fail it (and trust me I am someone who over-thinks and over-worries about everything). Of course all of the perks (dorm, lunch, equipment, etc,) that are included in the price of the IDC already make it one of the best options to choose from. But honestly even if that wasn't the case I would still urge people to come do your training at Sairee Cottage Diving so you can experience it all for yourself. I promise you you won't be disappointed. Thanks again Marcel, Julian, Joe, and everyone who did the IDC with me. You've been absolutely amazing, and my IDC will be a time I will always cherish 🙂 (By the way I wasn't planning on doing the MSDT due to money concerns, but doing it at Sairee with Marcel was an opportunity I could not miss out on)

Great video, thank you. I have one question regarding the pre-dive safety check (BWRAF). Why are you actually physically inflating your buddies BCD? I understand checking all the releases and air, etc but wouldn't it suffice to just watch him inflate his own BCD? Thanks again for posting this.

It’s because a mechanical failure can occur without notice. Valves stick, hoses leak, seals give out, not presented until re pressurized.

I’m also curious about why you check each other’s primary second stage. I know COVID is not so current anymore, but I wouldn’t want someone else’s saliva on my reg.

Great video 😊 I have one question to the out of air exercise. I never turn of the students air and continue with the exercise - I only turn it of so that they can see how much air is left in the hoses etc and how it feels to run out. Your demonstration is the correct way?

Hi Finn, Thank you for your comment This video is about the New Skill Circuit. This is for Divemasters and IDC Candidates. When I teach Open Water Students, I do the same like you, I separate Air Depletion and the Alternate Air Source Skill. But in the New IDC Skill Circuit PADI wants us to combine it. I hope this help and have a great day Marcel

During our Open Water training, the 2nd day in the pool, I started getting better at staying neutral. It's not as easy as I thought it was going to be, but practice makes perfect. I'm assuming it'll be a tad easier when we dive deeper during our lake dives. We're having a blast learning, and my 15 year old did excellent. I think he was born for SCUBA. He has excellent control, and he stayed calm and cool the whole time. We even swapped gear at the bottom of the deep end. Staying calm is key. Can't wait for our 30-40ft lake dives. That will be the deepest I've ever been.

Super cool to hear! Buoyancy will always get better with practice. Some take a bit longer than others, but you will master it fully when you keep diving! :)

Any special reason why the right hand should be first in the BCD when donning the equipment?
@morganames8142
@morganames8142 4 года назад
It's a matter of practice and doing it always in a standardized method when donning your scuba unit (BCD plus cylinder and regulator). The process for "doffing" (removing) your scuba unit, especially underwater, is the reverse. Once you've adjusted the buoyancy in your BCD to be neutral for the depth you are at you can remove the left arm without worrying that the scuba unitwill rise or fall in the water column. The reason that you remove your right arm last is so that you keep the regulator, which comes over your right shoulder, in your mouth to have breathing gas underwater. Of course, exceptions can be made to this practice ... for example, for handicapped/disabled divers who may have had to modify there scuba unit -- say, to bring both their regulator's second stages and BCD inflator/deflator hose(s) over their left shoulder and alternate air source (octopus) second stage under their left arm -- due to the loss of use of an arm or even, in the case of wounded warriors, the loss of a hand or arm.
@MarcelVanDenBerg1
@MarcelVanDenBerg1 4 года назад
Hi GiGi, Technically you can also use your left arm, but I like to use the right arm because then I minimise the chance of getting the Alternate Air Source hose under the arm is much higher. Especially with beginner students this helps is saving time gearing (donning) up. It's more style then standard :) Marcel van den Berg
@MarcelVanDenBerg1
@MarcelVanDenBerg1 4 года назад
@@morganames8142 I completely agree :) Marcel
@ScubaGG
@ScubaGG 4 года назад
@@morganames8142 the reason you gave doesn't make much sense of doing it in reverse in comparison to a standardized skill (uw doffing) that already exists and you described it well -and that doesn't answer my question at all
@ScubaGG
@ScubaGG 4 года назад
@@MarcelVanDenBerg1 in your video your AAS hose is under your arm. Which is where in most setups we find it no? I guess I misread something or I just don't understand your explanation why? Most students encounter issues in taking their arms in or out and they get stuck with something they 99% wear on their left wrist.

check the hydro & vip? why? that's for fills - not for breathing.....
@georgianamerlusca6979
@georgianamerlusca6979 4 года назад
Wouldn't you want to know prior to diving that the dive center is giving you a tank that has hydro and vip done?
@MarcelVanDenBerg1
@MarcelVanDenBerg1 3 года назад
I understand Mike, but it is important to double check if the filling station / dive centre did a good job before you use their cylinder for scuba diving. That is why we check this before every dive/use.
