Its a shit movie with good cinematic and aesthetic beauty in it. Its over the top overdramatic take on the epic poem padmavati written by Jaysi after 200 yearsof Queen padmini's mass suicide for their which is known as Johar. Creative liberties has been taken by Jaysi and Bhansali to make this over the top over dramatic. Apparently Jaysi was so besotted with the stories of queen padmini's beauty, he even praised the vagina of Queen padminis in one section of his epic poem written in 1540 CE

These women had no autonomy over their bodies and sexual freedom of their own. Glorifying these customs in pop culture and cinema (especially in the context of Indian/Rajput pride) reinforces dated and false notions of female "izzat" and reverses centuries of progress women have made with regards to their sexuality and personal freedoms.
