This video will show you how to add page numbers AFTER the index section or table of content of a book / document in OpenOffice Writer. frugalberry.com
Oh Karl. I am so relieved right now. And it's all because of you. I have spent wayyyy too much time on the numbers thing and like all the rest of your fanclub in the comments, have been essentially pulling my hair out. 11 years later, and here we are, smiling because of Karl. THANK YOU
Thank you for this video. I have worked for a long time with Open Office and this is an area I have always had trouble with. I've made notes from this video and will refer to them the next time I am having a hair tearing experience. lol
omg, THANK YOU!! you're a life saver! the "help" within the program didn't help me at all. and i've been using OO for years, i just never tried to do this particular page numbering stuff before. i'm more familiar with how Word formats pages (having used it at work), and i was trying to figure out how to do a "section break", and didn't realize that's what OO refers to as a "page break". argh!!! anyway, thanks again!! :)
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this! I was frantically trying to figure out how to post headings that included page numbers in a manuscript that needed to be submitted within a few hours, and this was what finally cracked it for me!
Thank you so much. For hours I've been searching the net to learn how to start the page counting at page 3 and all I've found is a million instructions on how to start it at page 2. So thank you again. I was starting to lose hope.
You sir are a life saver. I really appreciate you showing me that. I now have exactly what I need for publishing books in the future. Thanks so much for your help :)
Thank You so much! Was ready to convert my 300 page book to Word to get pages numbered correctly. Love OpenOffice but page numbering is too complex for book authors..
Nice tutorial. But I notice that the second part where you right clicked to change/update to Roman numeral works in OpenOffice only (4:55) - and not in LibreOffice unless you are inserting a new Roman numeral. You have to double click and change it in the popup window to update it. Double clicking (or right click>Fields) seems to work in OpenOffice as well - and, to be honest, is easier.
Hey Karl, thanks for posting , I just have a question, I want to insert a number startin on a specific page e.g.: page 5 but I still want to count from the first page but I don't want the numbers to show example, number 1 to number 4 i want to start numbering from page 5 of 10 and so on but I don't war number 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 to show up. If you could help me please
Set the first (cover/title) page style to 'first page' and don't have a footer in it. Start your next pages as 'index' style and your main body as 'default' style.
doesn't work at all. tried everything. I even fixed it last night and saved it. today it changed. page numbers are scattered throughout, page 7 on page 4, no numbers on 3 or 4 pages after, then says page 11. frustrated
If I may--and I'm not trying to look over your shoulder or anything--I would make "school yard" at the conclusion of your book into one word: schoolyard. Couldn't help but notice.
Is this the version of doing this that jives well with "navigation" for ebooks? I have read the "insert" version of doing this (not described in this video) doesn't work.
