Did you see how a few Amaterasu shots spread through the forest around the Uchiha hideout? I'm pretty sure Itachi is able to burn down the Leaf. Did you see how casually Kisame created a giant water bubble that passively drains people's chakra? I'm pretty sure he can Flood the whole village if he puts more chakra into it, or cast the jutsu more than once. Yet, AP isn't everything. Deidara can blow up the Leaf with the C3, as well delete all life around him with C4, but he died to Hebi Sasuke and is far below both Itachi and Pain. Yes, the massive Shinra Tensei is a pretty strong jutsu, but then again, a nerfed Itachi reacted to and tanked Kirin with his Susano'o. The Shinra Tensei is also slower, so he would have more time to react. You can't just cherry-pick evidence that is convenient to you.

My favorite interaction between Pain and Itachi is when Itachi refuses to tell Sasori who the Jinchuriki is until Pain demands Itachi to do it and Itachi just cucks down to him.
That has nothing to do with the power of the both but the hierarchy levels of the Akatsuki. Pain was the leader, therefore it's natural for Itachi to follow his commands.

It's also important to take into concideration how Pain hardcounters all of Itachis abilities. 1. His Tsykoyumi/Genjutsu is single rarget and he fights 6 individuals who are connected but not effected by genjutsu simultaniously. More like Kurama is inside Naruto. This was proven by frog song only effecting 3 paths and neither Nagato nor the other 3 already on their way as reinforcements. So they or Nagato can tap them out. It also severely weakens him. Can be used a few times before leading to blindness. [We also don't know if visual genjutsu effects the Rinnegan at all.] 2. Amaterasu. Absorbed by preta, pushed off by Tendo. And can be healed by Narakas king of hell. Shurado can just break off the effected mashinery bodypart and grow it anew. It can also only be used 1-3 times and leads to blindness. 3. Sussannoo. Many who argue for Itachi here ignore that the yata mirror is JUST the shield. The sword is not that fast and its not that manouverable. Additionally through Gaara throwing out Madara we know half sussannos are losley around the user. Gravity can just pull Itachi out. The same fight also showed us even Madara whos main mastery is sussannoo was unable to imidietly deactivate and reactivate his sussannoo. Not even the ribcage and had to rely on his Rinnegan to counter Naruto.. So while pulled out he is totally vunreable long enough zo be hit by many ranged attacks such as lasers or rockets. 4. Hand to hand. Most paths are very skilled and attack together. Feel no pain and injury doesnt mean much to corpses. That disables any shuriken or Kunai tricks. Wires as well. Itachi lacks raw power to destroy their bodies unless he'd attemp to use hid explosive clones alot. Wich once on the radar are countered by the ubdying dogs and the Rinnegan vision. Itachi has no extra force in his taijutsu like sage mode or rasenshuriken did. They can fight on while on fite and shuriken stuck in them. Not to mention Tendo especially survived fighting kyuubi mode up to 7 tails, blows far harder then any normal human can throw out.. And that thing is way faster and stronger then Itachi. Endurance. Itachi is very sick and half blind. All 6 paths fought all of konoha for intel, not to kill. (Safe team gai.), then desttoyed Konoha, faced sage naruto plus toads and allies and perfect intel on all paths, won, then faced hinata followed by kyuubi mode up to 7 tails directly, captured 8 tailed stage in chibaku tensei, fought naruto after that, and still had chakra to revive the entire village. So its safe to say Pain outlasts, and Itachi dies either way. 5. Intelligence. Itachi is defenately taking the edge here. Nagato is reasonably intelligent. Defenately above avarage. But Itachi is the 3rd smartest Shinobi we know. Only surpassed by Minato on 2. And Tobirama on 1 who with no references or teachers mapped out the entierty of the chakra system, created most commonly known jutsu and much more. But Itachis intellect can maybe get him one two, maybe 3 kills? And even if he beats 5-6 there is still Nagato. And we saw how a Kabuto with only pain as refference and sloppy use of his remote controlled edo Nagato made use of him. Vs Bee and KCM1 Naruto at once. So it's obvious. Pain> Itachi.
In my opinion Itachi is one of the most Unique, Authentic and Influential characters from the series. The thing that people underestimate about Itachi fights/encounters, isn't just his power, (it's mainly writters or Kishimoto's fault for making Itachi seem or to look very powerful throughout the series) but how smart and intelligent he is during various situations, he never, ever underestimates his opponents because of his composure and his way of being, the level of thinking he's on honestly dwars most people in the series, with only people like Minato and Shikaku comparable with him. More precisly, Itachi isn't just any ordinary Shinobi also, he pretty much knows and he's also aware that all strong opponents have weaknesses (including himself), and he specializes in finding those "weaknesses" and exploiting them ("*Even the strongest of opponents always has a weakness*" - Uchiha Itachi) because he's that type of character who can exceed almost any expectations. Itachi is very unique and authentic, especially in the factor of facing various encounters approach, his unpredictability in his way of fighting style approach it's his key factor in all of his encounters. Being blind or nearly blind has never slowed him down (especially when he's pretty much serious, but that's the point, he has never go all out against anyone during the series.) Itachi it's that type of character who can exceed almost any expectations. (at least that's what we were shown in the anime by the creator Masashi Kishimoto). Moral of the story, never underestimate Itachi. He did more sick than most healthy ninjas do in their entire life. In my opinion No One should underestimate such an unpredictable Shinobi like Itachi, even Madara (I won't say that Itachi can beat him, but at least he will be pretty much able to put a decent fight that Madara will also be impressed in my opinion). Also how can some of you guys even consider that Totsuka Blade it's slow when no such speed feat has been shown through the Shippuden that state it that it is slow? All of you are assuming it to be slow it may not be the case... Its not that the sword is unavoidable but it clearly has a very long range and is a very long blade. If you look at the manga, Naruto, Bee and Itachi are all relatively small from Nagato's point of view, and you can see the Totsuka Blade extending all the way from Itachi, piercing through Nagato, and still managing to nearly pop out toward the reader out of the page. I would say its fast because Kabuto coudldn't even react to it, and its not like Nagato was completely immobile to the point that he couldn't sidestep the blade. Also, Kabuto controlling people from far away is never stated to inhibit the Edos' reaction speed in any way. Being controlled by someone thousands of miles away didn't stop the Third Raikage from dodging KCM Naruto's Rasenshuriken. And as for Orochimaru, the sword struck him in between syllables of a word during his speech. I think that that is pretty fast. Pair the Totuska Blade with a good feint and its lethal because its ethereal, meaning it can pierce through any object. If the sword didn't live up to its reputation then Orochimaru wouldn't seek it out. People need to stop downplaying Itachi and denying the very clear speed feats of Totsuka. There is no room for interpretations here. The advantage of being an Uchiha, especially for Itachi and Madara, is that during an encounter against them, they always have a counter because of their unpredictable way of fighting factor, they don't run out of options or techniques, they almost always have a counter in their arsenal, even forbidden jutsus seems irrellevant against them, only a few Uchihas know a certain way to approach the situation with a certain and effective technique, that's why is hard/difficult to fight against them in my opinion. ☯️ 🤷🏻♂️ Here are the things that make Itachi so formidable. Tsukuyomi - A genjutsu so powerful that you literally can't escape it unless you have the same blood as Itachi, as stated by Itachi himself and proven later by Sasuke, or you're a jinchuriki. Jinchuriki are supposed to be immune to genjutsu but it hasn't been proven, but when Bee was fighting Edo Nagato and Itachi with Naruto, he said to watch out for Tsukuyomi explicitly. Literally 99% of all opponents fighting Itachi have no way of stopping Tsukuyomi. You could have the power to split the planet in half and it wouldn't matter. (Want to know why? - Kakashi pretty much state it in the actual anime and manga that Tsukuyomi it's such a dangerous Genjutsu Technique because it happen in a instant, even if you realize that you are trapped in the Tsukuyomi, it will be too late, because Itachi could approach you during that time in the real world (or he can use an Explosive Clone to approach you without you even realizing it in time and he can pretty much finish you before you can even realize, - 72 hours in Tsukuyomi realm means 1 second or a couple of seconds in the real world. Tsukuyomi can't be broken, when used to it's fullest.) The Sword of Totsuka and Yata Mirror - The Susanoo itself is a near invincible defense but these two weapons take it to the next step. The Sword of Totsuka can seal "anything" if it even touches it. It's completely OP. It's hard to fight a guy that can seal you away if his sword even touches you. The Yata Mirror is even a bigger deal in my opinion. It doesn't block attacks, it's "negates" them. You could throw an Amaterasu covered Bijuu bomb at Itachi and the Yata mirror will negate it, making it so the Susanoo doesn't even need to take a blow. You could punch the Yata mirror and the force will completely be negated. His biggest strength of all: tactical intelligence - Itachi always outsmarts and plans for everything because the plot demands it. You're physically strong? Itachi is already 2 steps ahead of you knowing exactly what to do. You're extremely fast? Again, 2 steps. You're going to try and outlast Itachi in a fight? Good luck. To add to this, some of the 3 most powerful techniques in the verse are due to his intelligence and planning ability; Izanami, Izanagi, and Kotoamatsukami. Izanami - A forbbiden genjutsu technique that allows you to alter someone's destiny. Impossible to break out of even if you know you're in a genjutsu without complying with the users set destiny for you. Even someone like Bee, a perfect Jinchuriki, can't escape Izanami unless he does what Itachi wants him to. Izanagi - You somehow gained an advantage over Itachi? He makes it so that advantage never happened. Kotoamatsukami - Though Shisui's technique, Itachi has his eye which effectively makes it his weapon. A genjutsu so powerful that the person it's cast on doesn't even know they're under a genjutsu. Like the Tsukuyomi, completely OP. To add to all of this, Itachi is pretty good at hand to hand combat, is great with shuriken, is extremely fast, is great with regular fire techniques, is slippery and unpredictable, and has the extremely dangerous and fast Genjutsu style of fighting approach that can caught you off guard almost at any time. With all of these things considered you've got one dangerous ninja. Lastly but not least Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. When Itachi Uchiha awakened his Susano'o, he was seen wielding legendary weapons of the Totsuka Blade and the Yata Mirror. The former allowed Itachi to seal anyone he pierced in a world of genjutsu forever, while the latter gave him the ability to deflect any and all attacks thrown towards him, regardless of whether they were physical or spiritual in nature. According to Zetsu (who was around since the period of Kaguya time era until the present of Naruto) he state it in the anime and also in the manga that these weapons, when combined with his Susano'o, made Itachi Invincible. This is why Kishimoto basically had to give him a handicap: Naruto AIDS. 🤷🏻♂️ ☯️

Nothing there indicates speed faster then the 7th tailed Kyuubi running, and more so a feat against a big slower enemy with the Hydra form, as opposed to Oroichimaru's usual fast and elusive focus.. Tendo displayed speed beyond that. And delt with sage mode before. Not only that, he can pull Itachi in his own blade using universal pull. -Itachi and Bee+ KCM1 Naruto vs Nagato Here in the first half white hair post rinne rebirth Nagato told them how to defeat him. Showed however he sensed Amaterasu build up before it hit him, yet did not counter it. Tendo pain reacted to things much faster such as Kakashi jumping out of the ground,Kyuubi mode 6 -7 tails attacks and outran it. (Faster as in not expecting it with Kakashi, Amaterasu a faster ability but slow buildup. And seeing it comming is fast enough to counter it. But did not BECAUSE they were programmed to capture bee and Naruto. Itachi reprogramming his seal with Koto was not imtended.. Part 2 Kabuto takes DIRECT conrrol. Hence he peforms so poorly. Kabutos or rather Nagatos issue is never power, speed or even mobility. As with the tendo path he can literary fly and speed just as Tendo Pain did. Only stronger. It was a lack of awareness of Nagatos other abbilities. Most notably his godlike sensory. Out of ALL shinobi only Nagato found Kabuto behind all his barriers. Itachi directly attribiutes the feat to Nagato and says he lacks the ability. Kabuto responds that HE DID NOT KNOW he had the ability. Now that controlled crippled Nagato reacted to Bee and KCM1 Naruto. Naruto at kcm1 outsped the Raikage at FULL SPEED. Who outsped Amaterasu. Nagato just standing around and not shooting at them while moved up by chibaku chatting about a strategy? Kabutos error. Him still idling on the ground after? Kabutos fault. With that level of sensory above sage mode hed EASILY see it comming and had enough speed to react. He did not because Kabuto DIRECTLY controlled him. *Yata Mirror* Its a shield wich has to be hit to negate attacks. Gravity is no projectile. The pull is the magnet, itachi the metal. It bypasses the shield fully and can even move itachi in his own blade. Same resson chibaku tensei worked on him and he needed the help of bee and naruto to blow it up. He couldnt even just totska stab it. Anything else? Sure if its hit it negates. *Izanami* Izanami IS NOT creation of all things. You can not wrap reality to your liking. Only rewrite your destiny. You also lose a Sharingan permanently. Meaning Danzo would write obito and Sasuke dead at his feet. Or Hiruzen dead, himself as Hokage. But did not. Why? Its very limited. So its 2 extra lives for his vision and ms abilities. As well as sharingan. *Izanami* Needs to recreate a perfect loop, and a target imitating somebody else. Nagato knows who he is and imitates no one. *Koto* Single target, and as frog song proved they are like Jinchuukiri to Nagato. He was not effected by what they were. He can even tap out the reprogrammed path. But fair point here. If it works and he has time to set it up and land the effected path can temporarily turn on the others. But does it work on pupeteered corpses? We dont know. *Battle IQ* As i mentioned above, he is depicted as smarter then Nagato, but that becomes irrelevant due to the raw power and immense pressure put on him by the paths. His dwarven chakra pool and minimal vision against a chakra beast with 6 pairs of Rinnegan. How much of his moves just dont work. And how he has no awnser to chibaku tensei prove allthou he is smart enough to find wesknessess, he does not always have a solution. And the 6 paths are one of the worse matchups for him. Itachi faires much better against Obito who faires better against pain. So Pain> Itachi

Itachi has always attempted to avoid conflict at all costs. He has to maintain his cover as an Akatsuki member, so he has to make viable excuses to avoid battle. When he says that fighting Jiraiya would have serious consequences, we know that he has an innate desire not to fight anyone at all, let alone a hero of the leaf, and he was a spy protecting Konoha from shadows. He could have killed Kakashi with ease. Kakashi even states that Itachi could have killed him, and wondered why he didn't. Knowing this, it is easy to see the pieces that point to a picture of Itachi that is devastatingly powerful in combat. In his confrontation with Asuma and Kurenai when he enters Konoha, we see him send Kurenai flying a large distance with a simple kick. We also see him deflect chidori, and snap Sasuke's arm like a twig with a single hand. He also sends Sasuke flying clear down the hallway with another kick in this fight. He is obviously a powerful, versatile, unpredictable and underrated taijutsu user. We know that he can kill with a glance using Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu, and become nearly invincible with his Susanoo. We see him use exploding clones, (it's his one of his unpredictability in his fighting way approach) powerful genjutsu not linked to his sharingan, ( with a single point of a one of his fingers) and making hand seals at insane speeds. He kicks the shit out of Kakashi and he barely moves. Tobi also tells us himself that Itachi could have killed him if it weren't for carefully guarded secrets. Orochimaru beats Tsunade and Jiraiya without the use of his arms. Granted, Jiraiya was drugged, but it's still the point. Orochimaru couldn't use seals at all. Itachi obliterated Orochimaru effortlessly. Itachi has been a step above from the beginning. In order for him to keep his cover in Akatsuki, he had to avoid conflict without arousing suspicion, and the best way to do that was to present himself as being much less powerful than he actually is. The one thing we have been able to see in detail, is his intelligence and unpredictability in his fighting way approach. Itachi has been shown to be able to plan events years in advance, to account for possible flaws in his plans with powerful contingencies, and to use every possibility to his advantage. Shikamaru plans a few hours in advance, and we label him a tactical genius. If that is the case, what does one even call Itachi? The only real flaws that Itachi possesses is a smaller chakra reserves, and his own morality which keeps him from gaining Eternal Mangekyo. But even the chakra is arguable. The techniques we see him use are enormously powerful, and would therefor have a huge chakra cost. I'm not going to say he is the most powerful character in the anime, but I am going to say he is definitely very very high on that list, and probably higher than most people seem to give him credit for. Lastly but not least, Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. 🤷🏻♂️☯️
I gotta say man I really appreciate how you break this down for everyone. I really think Pain is one of the most underrated characters in the series. Itachi is good, but Pain is simply too much for most opponents to handle. How do you think the Six Paths fair against Orange Mask Obito? I agree that Itachi has a better chance against Obito than Pain does, but I actually think the Six Paths of Pain vs Obito could go either way. I really don't see much of a way for Pain to beat Obito other than by outlasting him. Obito at that time though, only has Kumai to really work with, and we see that he struggles big time during the war arc against Naruto, Bee, Gai, and Kakashi since he couldn't pull one into his pocket dimension because he was getting swarmed. (Yes these characters are more powerful then Pain is at this point but Obito is also much more powerful at this time then when he and Pain co-existed, and I would argue that since the Six Paths are all controlled by Nagato they would have slightly better synergy.)

It is not that simple. The person using the eyes matter far more than the eyes themselves. DMS Kakashi and EMS Sasuke are destroying anyone using a rinnegan, with few exceptions like Madara

Itachi has always attempted to avoid conflict at all costs. He has to maintain his cover as an Akatsuki member, so he has to make viable excuses to avoid battle. When he says that fighting Jiraiya would have serious consequences, we know that he has an innate desire not to fight anyone at all, let alone a hero of the leaf, and he was a spy protecting Konoha from shadows. He could have killed Kakashi with ease. Kakashi even states that Itachi could have killed him, and wondered why he didn't. Knowing this, it is easy to see the pieces that point to a picture of Itachi that is devastatingly powerful in combat. In his confrontation with Asuma and Kurenai when he enters Konoha, we see him send Kurenai flying a large distance with a simple kick. We also see him deflect chidori, and snap Sasuke's arm like a twig with a single hand. He also sends Sasuke flying clear down the hallway with another kick in this fight. He is obviously a powerful, versatile, unpredictable and underrated taijutsu user. We know that he can kill with a glance using Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu, and become nearly invincible with his Susanoo. We see him use exploding clones, (it's his one of his unpredictability in his fighting way approach) powerful genjutsu not linked to his sharingan, ( with a single point of a one of his fingers) and making hand seals at insane speeds. He kicks the shit out of Kakashi and he barely moves. Tobi also tells us himself that Itachi could have killed him if it weren't for carefully guarded secrets. Orochimaru beats Tsunade and Jiraiya without the use of his arms. Granted, Jiraiya was drugged, but it's still the point. Orochimaru couldn't use seals at all. Itachi obliterated Orochimaru effortlessly. Itachi has been a step above from the beginning. In order for him to keep his cover in Akatsuki, he had to avoid conflict without arousing suspicion, and the best way to do that was to present himself as being much less powerful than he actually is. The one thing we have been able to see in detail, is his intelligence and unpredictability in his fighting way approach. Itachi has been shown to be able to plan events years in advance, to account for possible flaws in his plans with powerful contingencies, and to use every possibility to his advantage. Shikamaru plans a few hours in advance, and we label him a tactical genius. If that is the case, what does one even call Itachi? The only real flaws that Itachi possesses is a smaller chakra reserves, and his own morality which keeps him from gaining Eternal Mangekyo. But even the chakra is arguable. The techniques we see him use are enormously powerful, and would therefor have a huge chakra cost. I'm not going to say he is the most powerful character in the anime, but I am going to say he is definitely very very high on that list, and probably higher than most people seem to give him credit for. Lastly but not least, Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. 🤷🏻♂️☯️

So I have a question then, Do you think then that Pain, (All Six paths together) are more powerful than orange mask "Tobi" Obito? I'm fine with people saying in a fight Obito probably wins, but I would argue that Pain is the more powerful of the two at the time when they co-existed. I think if Obito and the Six Paths were to fight each other that it could really go either way. We do see fatigued Pain keep pace with Sage mode Naruto, and while Nagato had his mobility compromised during his fight with KCM Naruto, (Something Kabuto points out.) Nagato was still able to blitz KCM Naruto and Bee. The Same KCM Naruto that would go on to out speed the 4th Raikage who the data books do say has speed that rivals Minato. Which leaves us open as to how much faster KCM1 Naruto is than Sage Naruto. While I'm sure Pain isn't as fast as Nagato is, it can't be by several levels of magnitude, and Pain should be able to at least REACT to someone like Obito. A one on one fight between Obito and Tendo Pain and it's pretty obvious that Obito wins with no difficulty, but all Six Paths and Obito has his work cut out for him with the six fields of vision. But I'm interested to know what you think. I would enjoy that video on how that would play out. I personally put Pain, (Nagato) Obito, (Orange Mask) Itachi, and Minato all the the same basket of characters that you really can't use in many vs match ups, as it's either obvious that they would win, (Like putting Itachi or Minato up against Jiraiya) or pretty obvious that they would lose, (Like if you pit them off against Madara, Hashirama, or KCM2 Naruto.)
Both living Nagato and Itatchi were sickly but still managed to hold their own against their opponents. I might go down to who overexerts themselves more in the fight. Itatchi was already dying by the time he fought Sasuke again so he might not last that long if he has a prolonged fight against Pain. Nagato had to use a large amount of chakra in Konoha and against Naruto and in the end only died when he sacrificed himself to revive the fallen Leaf villagers/shinobi.
Kakashi's was underestimating the level of genjutsu itachi could use. He knew everything but the power of Tsukiyomi. Even itachi said fighting Kakashi would be a problem. So Itachi targeted Asuma and Kurenai. Kakashi then stupidly jumps in front of them and opens his Sharingan eye, hoping to counter the genjutsu. If he'd have let Kurenai die, the fight would've gone differently. Win, maybe not. Get bastardized by a glance, most definitely not. That loss comes from ignorance, not skill. It's like Jiraiya vs Pain. If Kakashi knew how strong Tsukiyomi was. He probably wouldn't have taken the hit.

Zetsu said a similar thing when Pain was defeated. None of them are objectively invincible. They are just so strong, or have op abilities that few can deal with it. So it is *assumed* they are. Zetsus statements therfor mean nothing other then Zetsus *assumption* based on how few could beat the characters he hypes. And how suprised he is. Otherwise that would mean Itachi could beat Juudara/Madara, Kaguya, Hagoromo or Momoshiki..Isshiki. As *Invincible* means invincible. OBVIOUSLY he can't.
The databooks are questionable sources, one of the reasons for that being the one you mentioned that they don't have the knowledge of the completed series, so they are working with what we knew at that time. "Pain is the strongest", "Pain can't be defeated" means nothing when you realize people like Ohnoki were around, who just hadn't been introduced at that point of the story. Also Guy, who was a known character, but his 7th and 8th gates forms hadn't been introduced yet. Are you going to tell me Pain can survive even 7th gate Guy? I mean, even Obito. And Zetsu was Obito's closest thing to a partner. And Minato clearly sees Obito as a bigger threat, and so does the narrative. Pain vs Obito is another controversial discussion, but going by your logic do you think that's correct to say Pain cannot be defeated by Obito, Guy, Kisame, Ohnoki or even the 4th Raikage (who can dodge Amaterasu and is relative in speed to KCM Naruto)? And when it comes to Itachi, I liked that you acknowledged the nerf his disease had on him, but a distinction has to be made between his sick and healthy versions. As you used Zetsu's remarks to scale Itachi above his feats against Sasuke, I'm assuming your using the healthy version. Sick Itachi must be relative to Pain since he negative diffed Orochimaru's strongest form minutes away from death, but given the fact he's on a clock, I think he does lose to Pain more often than not. But how are you going to scale healthy Itachi without giving him his Edo feats? Sure, we should ignore the unlimited chakra and regeneration, but we can't ignore the fact that Itachi showed relativity to KCM Naruto. The Edo Tensei are weaker than their alive forms, it doesn't give buffs to stats unless the person was sick (Itachi, Kimimaro) or aged (Hiruzen), but it won't make them stronger besides removing nerfs they had when close to their deaths, so healthy alive Itachi has to be scaled at least a little bit above his Edo version. But I agree that the narrative portrays Pain as superior to Itachi. But then again, how does this invalidate his feats against Naruto (who says he is stronger now than when he and Nagato/Pain last fought, and is undeniably much faster), Bee (who in the War Arc is at least physically stronger than V2 Raikage), a version of Nagato superior to Pain, and even Kabuto to some extent? For that reason I'll give Itachi the win.
Out of universe, what probably happened was that Kishimoto buffed Itachi when he decided to bring him back with the Edo Tensei so he could be relevant around KCM Naruto, early EMS Sasuke and SM Kabuto. So this would mean he only came up with the idea of using the Edo Akatsuki in the war after or towards the end of the Pain Arc. Just like (if you subscribe to the Itachi retcon theory) when Itachi said Jiraiya was too powerful for him and Kisame, he was telling the truth if Kishimoto hadn't come up with Itachi's twist until later on. So a databook from that time would probably treat Jiraiya as above Itachi and Kisame. Yet, we have to ignore this statement because it gets recontextualized from the perspective of the completed story.
Pain or rather Nagato undoubtedly beat an alive adult Itachi. Though Itachi actually gets kind of underestimated due to most fanboys exaggeration of his strength. According to the light novels, his talent is absolutely exceptional with Danzo stating, such remarkable individual talent could probably be witnessed every 100 years. His father was considered strong and competent enough to compete with Minato and Orochimaru for the title of the hokage and still teenage Shisui and a 12 y/o Itachi were openly stated to be the strongest current Uchiha clan members. That’s in spite of Shisui being 3 years older. His academy results were second best (of all time) only to Minato with itachi graduating much younger, making it arguably an even more impressive feat. It’s clear, that itachi is amongst the top 5 most naturally talented shinobi, that aren’t directly gifted by being a direct heir of Indra or Ashura. Consequently kishimoto had to nerf him for the plot to advance. Pain‘s foundation of power is basically Madara‘s power, though he arguably became very proficient with the rinnegans usage. While it’s perfectly reasonable to assume, that the Rinnegan could be immune to Genjutsu, it’s still speculative and does not necessarily apply to pain, since he can’t switch from his Rinnegan to any type of Sharingan. Itachi even stated, that his Mangekyou coupled with Nagato‘s Rinnegan could prove to be literally unstoppable, implying, that the combination of both is naturally the „true pinnacle of visual prowess“. Which makes sense, since awakening the Rinnegan the natural way, ensures, that all MS/ EMS techniques (and defense mechanisms) are still at the users disposal. So in conclusion, the actual sick version of itachi is likely unable to win in a matchup with alive pain/Nagato, although a healthy, peak performance adult Itachi would provide an extremely difficult matchup for Nagato. Also I disagree with many comments, that put Itachi in the same tier as Killer B or the Sannin. He is clearly above them by a good margin and scales more to characters like pre war Obito, perfect dragon sage Kabuto, EMS war arc Sasuke, Kcm 1. Naruto, Tobirama, Sarurobi or even Minato.

Susanoo in general is only going to work on defense and a defense he can’t keep going for long while pain has HUGE amounts of chakra. The genjutsu he used on kabuto required him to create a loop meaning attacking kabuto the same exact way, he’s not going to be able to do that with 6 different bodies with multiple abilities
Ok bruh let's talk about how the fight could go down. I'll start by giving Itachi the advantage in speed and reaction time based off how 95% of the time he's always turning into crows when you hit him. His hand seal speed is ridiculous shown when Kakashi stated when they first fought. Pain has the more powerful Justus and crazy chakra levels. I'll acknowledge that as well. Because Pain is a cautious fighter he will analyze the fight using his offensive Paths first which is Animal and Asura. If the Deva Path goes on the offensive first with Planetary Devistation he takes the risk of getting sealed because a weakness I feel it has that no one talks about is that he can't move while doing it and his hands are together which again leaves him open for a Totsuka Blade. I don't think the Preta Path is fast enough to jump in without seeing it used first. Now back to if Deva just observes first... First off your right about Animal Path. The Totsuka Blade is getting the job done but I also think all the paths can get the business with it... just at different times. Asura Path is nice but hes getting clapped after Itachi dodges its missles or blast to get in close. While this is happening the Naraka Path will probably bring the Animal Path back to life. Itachi will know that the Naraka Path gotta go. The worst thing that any Path can do is look Itachi in the eyes. Genjustu can be served (on the rocks) with a base Sharingan, (Stirred) with the Mangekyo... I don't wanna hear that bullshit that the Sharingan genjustu doesn't work against the Rinnegan when Jiraiya successful used it. That should've been the match right there because Nagato is connected but that's a whole other discussion. If Deva Path pulls out the Almighty Pull he's doing Itachi a favor by bringing him closer to him right as he gets closer either Tsukyomi or Totskua Blade. Your not rendered useless when your getting pulled in. KCM1 Naruto evaded the Almighty Pull so I'm sure Itachi can pull it off as well. With Deva, Asura, Animal and Naraka Path done the rest of the Paths are done. It would be more of a challenge for Iatchi to take out a Path after it gets revived but I think hes capable. Other areas that Itachi gets overlooked in is insane charka control. He destroyed a builder with his bare hands to protect his mom as a kid. It's not proven but I'm sure he can see out of the eyes of his crows that have the Sharingan and he has that OP finger point genjustu where you don't even to look at him to be put under his Justu. Lastly Itachi's Susanoo not having any legs doesn't matter. The Susanoo's speed is instantaneous and the Totsuka Blade has hella range. Add to his use of the partial rib cage and arm use to conserve charka and hes even more deadly. It's not proven but im sure if he wanted to he could pull off a partial rib cage/arm Totsuka Blade to conserve charka. Itachi wins Mid difficulty.

Also the toskablade blitz Naguto (not an edo exclusive attack) so the moment itachi reveals the toskablade tendo is gone and from there itachi can pick the weaker path off one by one.

Itachi is not strong enough to destroy the planetary devastation but the yatta mirror should be able to protect itachi. pain would pressure itachi to use his susanoo first. the toskablade by itself is a blitz level above itachi, it blitzed orochimaru while using a sage mode like buff from a decently far distance. And it also blitzed naguto from a distance.

Think about this one point, combined with Izanag/Izanam, they both have like 2 abilities per eye. Like what I thought only one ability per eye. Great Video! A few things though. The chapter that states the strongest member of the Akatsuki doesn't state which chapter Kishi is talking about. It's left up to the viewer to decide. Secondly both characters are highly overrated. While Pain is more powerful with the Rinnegan, Itachi's battle IQ gets him the W. What he did to Edo Nagato always gets overlooked. He is the Batman of Naruto. I'm not saying that Pain gets washed but he CANNOT defeat Itachi.

Pain isnt beating Obito, Pain isnt beating Guy, etc. Not dishonest, simply just a contradiction, and the only time the statement was made by an actual credible character (Obito) he was mocking Pain because pain WASN'T invincible and had issues with Jiraiya. Itachi is seen as an issue for Obito, whereas pain is a pawn. The reason itachi feats dont seem as impressive is because he holds back on sasuke their entire fight, then we hes near blind, coughing up blood and about to die, he blitzes the strongest version of a sannin we have ever seen. The paths durability aren't good, nothing suggests they can break the susanoo with literally anything, and outside of a automatically healing nagato with amps from bees chakra, he doesnt have any good Chibaku tensei feats. He captured six tails Naruto who has worse feats than Sage mode naruto and thats basically it 😭
I said it before i will say again..The only thing itachi can do is delay or keep the fight a bit longer prolonging is undoubtable death...Most People look fro desirable things is common sense in human history we do that and by doing that we overpower overrated things we like if you have some kind of attachement it's even worse ...Pain wins and will basically play with itachi for as long as he wants to...And for those who are dumb to keep saying that itachi defeated nagato to those i don't know how to explain or to say anymore...3vs 1 and nagato was being controled also kabuto has only superficial level knowledge about his edos skills and you can see it when he is controlling Mu...Enough said.
This Encounter could go either way. 🤷🏻♂️ In my opinion Itachi is one of the most Unique, Authentic and Influential characters from the series. The thing that people underestimate about Itachi fights/encounters, isn't just his power, (it's mainly writters or Kishimoto's fault for making Itachi seem or to look very powerful throughout the series) but how smart and intelligent he is during various situations, he never, ever underestimates his opponents because of his composure and his way of being, the level of thinking he's on honestly dwars most people in the series, with only people like Minato and Shikaku comparable with him. More precisly, Itachi isn't just any ordinary Shinobi also, he pretty much knows and he's also aware that all strong opponents have weaknesses (including himself), and he specializes in finding those "weaknesses" and exploiting them ("*Even the strongest of opponents always has a weakness*" - Uchiha Itachi) because he's that type of character who can exceed almost any expectations. Itachi is very unique and authentic, especially in the factor of facing various encounters approach, his unpredictability in his way of fighting style approach it's his key factor in all of his encounters. Being blind or nearly blind has never slowed him down (especially when he's pretty much serious, but that's the point, he has never go all out against anyone during the series.) Itachi it's that type of character who can exceed almost any expectations. (at least that's what we were shown in the anime by the creator Masashi Kishimoto). Moral of the story, never underestimate Itachi. He did more sick than most healthy ninjas do in their entire life. In my opinion No One should underestimate such an unpredictable Shinobi like Itachi, even Madara (I won't say that Itachi can beat him, but at least he will be pretty much able to put a decent fight that Madara will also be impressed in my opinion). Also how can some of you guys even consider that Totsuka Blade it's slow when no such speed feat has been shown through the Shippuden that state it that it is slow? All of you are assuming it to be slow it may not be the case... Its not that the sword is unavoidable but it clearly has a very long range and is a very long blade. If you look at the manga, Naruto, Bee and Itachi are all relatively small from Nagato's point of view, and you can see the Totsuka Blade extending all the way from Itachi, piercing through Nagato, and still managing to nearly pop out toward the reader out of the page. I would say its fast because Kabuto coudldn't even react to it, and its not like Nagato was completely immobile to the point that he couldn't sidestep the blade. Also, Kabuto controlling people from far away is never stated to inhibit the Edos' reaction speed in any way. Being controlled by someone thousands of miles away didn't stop the Third Raikage from dodging KCM Naruto's Rasenshuriken. And as for Orochimaru, the sword struck him in between syllables of a word during his speech. I think that that is pretty fast. Pair the Totuska Blade with a good feint and its lethal because its ethereal, meaning it can pierce through any object. If the sword didn't live up to its reputation then Orochimaru wouldn't seek it out. People need to stop downplaying Itachi and denying the very clear speed feats of Totsuka. There is no room for interpretations here. The advantage of being an Uchiha, especially for Itachi and Madara, is that during an encounter against them, they always have a counter because of their unpredictable way of fighting factor, they don't run out of options or techniques, they almost always have a counter in their arsenal, even forbidden jutsus seems irrellevant against them, only a few Uchihas know a certain way to approach the situation with a certain and effective technique, that's why is hard/difficult to fight against them in my opinion. ☯️ 🤷🏻♂️ Here are the things that make Itachi so formidable. Tsukuyomi - A genjutsu so powerful that you literally can't escape it unless you have the same blood as Itachi, as stated by Itachi himself and proven later by Sasuke, or you're a jinchuriki. Jinchuriki are supposed to be immune to genjutsu but it hasn't been proven, but when Bee was fighting Edo Nagato and Itachi with Naruto, he said to watch out for Tsukuyomi explicitly. Literally 99% of all opponents fighting Itachi have no way of stopping Tsukuyomi. You could have the power to split the planet in half and it wouldn't matter. Tsukuyomi can't be broken, when used to it's fullest.) The Sword of Totsuka and Yata Mirror - The Susanoo itself is a near invincible defense but these two weapons take it to the next step. The Sword of Totsuka can seal "anything" if it even touches it. It's completely OP. It's hard to fight a guy that can seal you away if his sword even touches you. The Yata Mirror is even a bigger deal in my opinion. It doesn't block attacks, it's "negates" them. You could throw an Amaterasu covered Bijuu bomb at Itachi and the Yata mirror will negate it, making it so the Susanoo doesn't even need to take a blow. You could punch the Yata mirror and the force will completely be negated. His biggest strength of all: tactical intelligence - Itachi always outsmarts and plans for everything because the plot demands it. You're physically strong? Itachi is already 2 steps ahead of you knowing exactly what to do. You're extremely fast? Again, 2 steps. You're going to try and outlast Itachi in a fight? Good luck. To add to this, some of the 3 most powerful techniques in the verse are due to his intelligence and planning ability; Izanami, Izanagi, and Kotoamatsukami. Izanami - A forbbiden genjutsu technique that allows you to alter someone's destiny. Impossible to break out of even if you know you're in a genjutsu without complying with the users set destiny for you. Even someone like Bee, a perfect Jinchuriki, can't escape Izanami unless he does what Itachi wants him to. Izanagi - You somehow gained an advantage over Itachi? He makes it so that advantage never happened. Kotoamatsukami - Though Shisui's technique, Itachi has his eye which effectively makes it his weapon. A genjutsu so powerful that the person it's cast on doesn't even know they're under a genjutsu. Like the Tsukuyomi, completely OP. To add to all of this, Itachi is pretty good at hand to hand combat, is great with shuriken, is extremely fast, is great with regular fire techniques, is slippery and unpredictable, and has the extremely dangerous and fast Genjutsu style of fighting approach that can caught you off guard almost at any time. With all of these things considered you've got one dangerous ninja. Lastly but not least Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. When Itachi Uchiha awakened his Susano'o, he was seen wielding legendary weapons of the Totsuka Blade and the Yata Mirror. The former allowed Itachi to seal anyone he pierced in a world of genjutsu forever, while the latter gave him the ability to deflect any and all attacks thrown towards him, regardless of whether they were physical or spiritual in nature. According to Zetsu (who was around since the period of Kaguya time era until the present of Naruto) he state it in the anime and also in the manga that these weapons, when combined with his Susano'o, made Itachi Invincible. This is why Kishimoto basically had to give him a handicap: Naruto AIDS. 🤷🏻♂️ ☯️

I think Itachi would win, weve already seen him against Nagato edo, and he did pretty well against all his summons and many of his powers, beign as smart as Itachi is, he would just take the paths one by one, with strategy and precision, dont even think hed struggle that much, Itachi vs Nagato 1v1 is more interesting to me.

Yahiko when he was alive isn't scaling to itachi.. Yahiko probably doesn't even beat asuma or zabuza or hidan. Lmao .. i do think pain would win but with tsukiomi we've seen that itachi can kill with it if he wants to since during the uchiha massacre he uses tsukiomi to kill izumi by making her exoerience like 80 years of what their life would've been like if they could live their whole lives together. he made someone die by essentially making them live out their whole lifespan inside the tsukiomi world in like 1 billionth of a second and once she died in the genjutsu she died in the real world too so if itachi could do that to pain he might win but i doubt he'd be able to use it plus i don't think itachi ever actually hit anything with amaterasu either or he only landed it like once but we see him miss way more
Problem is the 6 paths are no real people but pupeteered corpses. They feel no pain as shown when they tried to tourture the new Animal path. Equally so we do not know if visual genjutsu works on the rinnegan. And also know Nagato is unaffected shown by frog song only affexting the 3 paths. The other 3 and Nagato are fine. So tsykoyumi is to much risk to use. He didnt even use it against edo Nagato. Suggesting the Rinnegan negates it.

You went out of your way to not mention anything edo Itachi did because you knew edo Itachi's feats are vastly more impressive than pain is. Bro he fights edo rejuvenated Nagato who was no diffing Kcm Naruto and B. Kcm Naruto outsped the raikage who was the fastest Shinobi alive at the time, well Itachi blitzed edo Nagato with the Totska Blade after they broke the Chibaku tensei core, Kabuto uses Nagato's rinnegan abilities even better than Nagato does. Edo weakens one's stats so Alive Itachi is even faster. Then all of pain's hax are completely useless against a susanoo, especially one with the yata mirror and Totska Blade. The only thing Pain/Nagato has that would work on Itachi's susanoo is Chibaku tensei, we don't know if Itachi could break free from it, but pain has exactly one win con where Itachi has several. Also, if pain catches Itachi in Chibaku tensei, Itachi could just use Izanagi. Then also the rinnegan doesn't give genjutsu resistance, and the eyes of all the paths are connected, so it's very likely if Itachi Tsukoyomi's one of them he'll get all of them as well.

Nagato is astronimically stronger than all the bodies of pain are and he's being amped by Kabuto who uses his rinnegan abilities better than Nagato did himself. Itachi blitzed Nagato who was bullying kcm Naruto and b, he can blitz the paths of pain too as a result. edo tensei nerfs the revived shinobi's stats, so again alive Itachi is even faster than his edo variant. None of the paths of pain are even remotely close to the speed of Itachi, the raikage, kcm Naruto and Nagato. Going off statements and feats the raikage is the definitive fastest alive at the time until kcm Naruto outsped him. Then kcm Naruto was being outsped by Edo Nagato whom then got outsped by edo Itachi. None of the paths of pain have any speed feats that put them anywhere near the same level of top tier speed needed to keep up with Itachi.
