@@ImmodderNation Oh hell no. lol. I tried plastidip on my shroud for my ASUS Rog Strix 1080Ti. Worst mistake ever. I peeled that crap off (painfully) and used Rustoleum glossy white on it and the backplate. Much better and much stronger. I even used it on my power supply and my front mesh plates on front of my CM Storm Stryker case. Turned out NICE!! Plastidip is not for me.

Should be fine for backplate. I would not paint the fins of the heatsinks. If those are aluminum, you might try anodizing. There are some DIY videos on RU-vid. Good luck.

Good morning, I would like to know if you use the case closed, and how were temperatures of motherboard and VGA.

It's closed, but not sealed. I'm running the same overclock as before: 4.8 GHZ @ 1.45 V. Temps on the motherboard are about the same as before, give or take a degree or two due to changes in ambient temperature. No temperature change on the video card. I wouldn't expect a change from the video card anyhow because I only sprayed the back PCB and the outside of the cooler. Thanks for the question!

You could also use old connectors - pwrbtn, led, etc - old ram and even pcie connectors from broken gpus to keep paint away ONLY from the metal connectors but paint the plastic as well. also dont wait for the paint to dry before removing the tape\protection from the areas you dont want painted. youll get what you got: peeled paint

This tutorial is even more wrong than i imagined. On first place dont paint the capacitors, they will overheat. Dont cover any resistors, it's obvious there are lots of them on the motherboard. YOU CAN'T PAINT A MOTHERBOARD SAFELY!!! You are better off making your own DIY motherboard shield using acrylic. In time the paint will kill the motherboard due to all the heat it traps in it. And it could be any component, can be a resistor, can be a capacitor, you never know. In all cases, such motherboard is not gonna last. DON'T do this mistake.

The tape should have been peeled off while the plastidip is still wet (after the last pass), which is where your mistake was made. Once it rubberizes it 10x harder to get off cleanly.

I applied plastidip in multiple passes, it was already dried by the first pass. I could have used an xacto knife too but I didn't. You can't see it from far away, it looks fine.

You're welcome to try regular spray paint. It's going to chip and flake off without a primer and good luck getting it to stick well without sanding first. The point of painting is to change the color. I thought the video was obvious about that.

@@ImmodderNation no shit use a primer. there's a million videos and posts where people spray paint their boards and they don't chip. depending on the spray paint you use it sticks perfectly fine🤦‍♂️ if the point of this video was to just change the color then you definitely accomplished that... but if you wanted to change the color and actually look good that's a different story.

Since motherboars are very good these days even on the 100-150€ range i could see myself giving it a shot with that non conductive paint, risk not that huge. Ill save this guide and when i have money ill do it. I have already put the fittings in the basket just need to click order xD im such a nerd, i did that while i do t even have money yet, but ill have it, ill work extra hours and save it, probably do it in next year xD as this year i sold my build.

That's what you see. If you're worried about heat, many of the components don't get that hot. The components that have heatsinks on them are not painted.

This is not good at all I’d suggest u buy a white mobo and spend the extra funds bc this takes soooooo long and will most likely not look good at all and jeopardizes the performance so I highly suggest spend a few extra bucks and buy a white mobo they’re out there

You can. It's more difficult to get complete paint coverage in my opinion, especially underneath the heatsinks.

He had issues with tearing of the coating because with plastidip if you want clean lines you need to removed the tape while it’s still wet. Unless there is a natural gap it will want to peel all of it away. You need several coats if you want removal to be easy, otherwise you’ll need chemicals to removes it, especially since motherboards are not smooth surfaces. I’ve used this stuff for years, last thing I’d use it on is a motherboard, even less so with that much masking. It’ll dry before you get it all off. If you want to paint, just use paint here.

Paint requires prep for it to stick. Plastidip does not. You're right that taking it off before it dries leads to clean lines but it needs to dry for multiple coats to be applied. Cutting with an xacto knife helped a little bit.

I would agree that it is a synthetic rubber coating. Natural rubber cannot be used for coating. It probably has latex in it and something proprietary.

Ok nevermind... Having to cover all the connections... Hard to get it right, may e that that idea off my crazy mind and poor pocket. BUT can still but a asus sabertooth board that comes white or that nzxt one OR buy a mobo thay has a plastic cover like the asus thuf line and simply paint the cover wich has no risk at all since its removeable.

Why can't they just make all white variants of motherboards? Like all white with maybe chrome accents but no other colors? Black and white are the two most used basic product colors yet there's plenty of entirely black motherboards but like 3 entirely white ones

I don't think this is something that you can peel off easily. this will take forever to peel off. might as well get a new one. Major errors that I want to point out. 1. Heat sinks are not meant to be painted as its harder to cool metals if its coated. 2. "PEEL IT OFF" won't work on this because thousands of components are attatched to the PCB "motherboard" and did I mention that they are all small too?? 3. scratching the board is not an option. You'll be dealing with things that you are not capable of fixing. Might as well use a permanent paint . 4. You only painted the board, you're case is black, your other components are colored black. Dude you are not meant to have the LCD Panel if you can't let go of the ROG Mobo. What is good is you uploaded this video. This will serve as a warning to whoever wishes to attempt such action. No hate here. Just keeping it real.

Thanks for the feedback. If there are enough coats of paint, it should come off as mostly one piece if you don't tear it. Also, you can paint heatsinks so long as you don't paint the conduction part that contacts the component and you don't paint the fins where heat is exchanged. Also sounds like you haven't watched part 2 of this video where I painted the inside of the case white. Thanks for watching my video and btw, I'm a big fan of your coffee.

@@ImmodderNation 1. Coating the board even more would make the motherboard look like its in a dress. You could peel it off easily.. and if the purpose is simply just make the side panel better quality which i think that's what the video is all about then its a victory. 2. Physics says you are containing heat rather than cooling it down. Imagine yourself in a blanket... Yet, the thicker blanket 3. Good to know you painted everything else...not being sarcastic, i mean it. 4. I would love to see the temperature statistics while youre gaming hardcore games versus same uncoated components. , How fast it spike the temperature and how fast it will cooldown. For the purpose of the proving that its really a good idea to paint your components white. Anyway, my statements are only theoretical.

Has anyone noticed that a lot if not all motherboards have a KTS CMOS Battery ? Every motherboard that I have bought for the last 10 years have all had KTS CMOS Batteries in them. I wonder why ? The motherboard in this video also seems to have a KTS CMOS Battery.

Maybe motherboard manufacturers get a special deal on KTS Batteries when buying other Japanese made electronic components for their motherboards ?

Question,... Instead of taping things off (lights and what not), couldn`t I just plastidip everything and then gently cut through the plastidip (around the lights and whatnot), and *Peel it off!* ?

Sure, but its a lot harder to do and you gotta remember where the lights are. If I were to redo it, i'll pull some of the tape immediately after spraying so the lines dried clean.

If you let the cans sit in hot water for about 30 minutes the plasti dip comes out smoothly.

Ok so I did this same thing, I'd be happy to provide pics of the work if anyone is interested. However I did finally have a death event, the board was sprayed on 3/28/2021. It lasted till 11/10/2023, which for a first attempt without the utmost care being given is pretty good. If anyone wants to see the pics of how it looked, I'm more than happy to give that. The board was an Asus Prime Z390-A. First event occurred about a year in. The first PCIx16 died, top slot began totally non functional, beep codes for GPU. Moved it to the second slot. This lasted till the final event I mentioned. Mind you that was during a cleaning, and ram swap, so there's a possibility of a rogue shock since I wasn't using ESD, but the ram itself has plastic off set heatsinks so I sorta doubt that. All in all well worth it, would do it again might have missed some components I'm happy to post pics if anyone wants.

@@ImmodderNation 1st slot just beep codes failed GPU. Second slot doesn't beep code at all, it just won't recognize anything that's put into the slot.

Your video is why I did this and honestly it's such an interesting piece of tech knowledge that you CAN do this that I absolutely support this sort of content. I'm not salty at all it died, it lived a good few years, and it bought enough time for me to be able to find a white m/b replacement.

@ImmodderNation Air will tend to accumulate at the top of a hydraulic loop. It is essential in any liquid cooling scenario that the pump not be at the top of the loop as air accumulating in the pump will reduce the efficiency of the pump and increase the rate of pump degradation. As no CLC is completely devoid of air, and water will dissipate through the tubing material used in most CLCs over time, the performance and pump degradation is an issue that has a latent increase over time. Many CLC manufacturers detail in their manuals that such an installation is bad for pump efficiency and degradation. I get that you're building these systems for a day and then moving on, but in being careless with the installation of your CLCs without qualifying to your viewers that such an installation is less efficient and will lead to quicker pump degradation and that these downsides of will increase over time, you're doing a disservice to your viewers.

Misleading? I'm hardly a model of everything you should be doing "right" as a computer builder. I've never addressed the radiator mounting and frankly I don't need to. If I come out with a video saying this is the correct way to mount an AIO, you can attack me then. The case I own doesn't allow me to mount the rad any higher than I have it now without drilling holes into the chassis. I cannot mount the radiator on the roof of the case because that is where the video board goes, as you can see in my video. So that really leaves me with one option. I've cooled my Skylake at a 4.9 ghz overclock in this orientation without even getting near the thermal limits of that processor. I made a video about it. So I'd say the cooling is fine for me where it is.

I was watching other videos and they are advising against using PlastiDip because of Heat dissipation concerns. They recommend using those Automobile ones (enamel or whatever) cause those supposedly conduct heat better, thus wouldn't fry any components. Any thoughts?

You're not the first person to mention it. Having plastidipped my motherboard and stress tested my Skylake 6700K at 4.8 GHZ with x264 today, there is no change to the temperature of my board or CPU. The secret is not to spray the parts of your board that get hot. Like inductors, FETs, processor, southbridge, and the fins of your heatsinks (RAM is ok). My CPU cores didn't go over 62 C on 100% load today and the board runs fine. Keep in mind that overclockers like Buildzoid plastidip their motherboards before running LN2 to protect against condensation. They run voltages much higher than I do. The actual boards themselves don't generate that much heat, so I wouldn't worry about frying any components.

+Teemu K I don't script my videos like some of the bigger channels. Sometimes I ramble on. It's easier for me to cut it down and make a much shorter video than to go off topic. It takes longer to edit, but it's faster than to go back and reshoot the myself saying the same thing.

What kind of paint? Did you cover everything properly with tape? Try clearing CMOS a few times and make sure the other components on the board work. Good luck.

Aye 🤦 I went with proper electronics conformal coating. Worked absolutely amazing because it self coats surfaces...then i realized it had a uv dye so you can see what's covered in the shop 🤦 so yeah motherboard glowed a patchy purple colour and looked awful lol. Something I have to do as high humidity kills and rusts motherboards over here. Plasti dip it is then 👍

I've watched this video because I don't like the color of my Heatsinks's covering, VRMs and Southbridge... just to discover you can take them off😱 I thought I would've had to tape everything just to paint those. Worst comes to worst, I can just PEEL IT OFF😅😂

My issue is what if yo need to do board repair on it one day, you won't be able to find out the voltage of certain resisters and capacitors

First of all, who does board repair on consumer motherboards? How long do you plan to have this motherboard? Secondly, you still need a motherboard schematic to verify the values. Third, you can PEEL OFF the paint on the sides of the capacitor if you need to get an ESR meter in there. But again, why?

It doesn't. Heat from most of the components is not too high, especially capacitors. I was careful not to cover the fin portion of the heatsinks. LTT did a video where they plastidiped the entire PC without taping off components and it idled at around 90 C.

Many LN2 overclockers plastidip their motherboards to protect from moisture when the water in the air condenses. How do you remove plastidip? PEEEEEEL IT OFF!
