I feel like drybrushing still has more untapped potential. It's one of the most forgiving techniques and is so simple to use. It's like the contrast paint of techniques.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I just want add though, I think it probably takes pros like yourself to find these new techniques, because your standard of quality and speed is higher, so you're going to have a better idea if a new idea either won't work at all after an attempt or two or instead go "Hey, I should try to refine this, this might work". I'd wondered once about dry rushing swords a couple of times, but I have trouble sometimes with applying too much pressure with dry rushing. I originally assumed the paint just wouldn't handle it.
This is a game changer. I can never get glazing and blends to look right, and with I've now finally made my first good looking NMM blade thanks to this. Thank you!
I'm actually not terrible at dry brushing so watching this has me believe that it's achievable. Especially since you go through the method step by step, showing the progress. I'll be trying this myself.
This is the best looking dry brush power sword I've seen. One small suggestion. Running the final center highlight could be done more easily by leaving the first piece of masking tap in place and adding a second on the other side - leaving a super thin gap between them to brush over. Perfect, crisp straight line.
Really appreciate this , have recently started getting back into painting and weapons have been what i have struggled with the most . Had been trying and failing to get a decent result with glazing but this is much more intuitive to me and has given great results.
" Paint an AMAZING Power Sword using just DRYBRUSHING" I'm disapointed. you sais "just DRYBRUSHING" but you basecoated normally (I'm not disapointed, it's a joke ;) )
Highlights 💡 Easy dry brushing technique for painting power swords. 💡 Use of specific dry brush set and masking tape for precision. 💡 Step-by-step guide for painting both sides of the sword. 💡 Final touches to enhance the overall effect. Key Insights 🧐 The choice of tools, such as the dry brush set and masking tape, plays a crucial role in achieving painting precision. 🧐 The step-by-step process of dry brushing ensures a gradual build-up of color and texture on the power sword. 🧐 Attention to detail, like catching the middle section of the sword, enhances the overall visual impact.
Cool. Looks great. I could use some more instruction on the dry brushing the small parts, like when adding the white. This should help though on my Blade Guard Veterans I'm finishing up for my DA combat patrol. Only the Captain and 2 of the BGVs till it's done! Took me 6 months though. I paint very slowly
Holy hell does that look good, amazing stuff man. I'm struggling with painting bolt rifles for my Sisters of Battle currently, the flat sides of the bolt gun make the end result of painting them look a bit boring, especially compared the more interesting shapes of their armour and accessories, can you remember if you've done any videos that include painting a bolter? Or, if not, how would you go about making a rifle have the same eye-catching, jaw-dropping effect of something like the power swords from this video? They look soooooooooo good. Thanks for the tutorial!
After you mentioned the Artify drybrushes, I picked them up. I haven't gotten around to using them yet, but I definitely picked them up. I've been using the same 3 brushes and two make up brushes for like a year (my curled up synth detail brush for like 4 years). It's time to retire those race horses.
Another great tutorial. Thank you! A question about the use of the brushes. Do you wash them out completely before changing color and then dry them or do you just keep on brushing?
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Well, not that much work for a really cool result, yes, it takes off a lot of pressure and you gain the fun aspect. Again, very smart ^^
I just got over worry by trying a molten sword using a similar effect, but the NMM style ripple of light this makes feels like a natural next step for me to try next. Always out the comfort zone!
This series is an epiphany truly. This is gonna help me not only with a few swords on my new space Marines but with doing the energy blade on my necron destroyers! All the thanks JH!
