I'm in my 60s, and am both autistic and ADD have ADHD so i'm going to respond authentically. 1. ADHD & autistic individuals may be prone to deep dives (e.g. my blog). 2. ADHDers often would like to get to the points and they want them to be the real points, in the first place. We'd like to get down to the causal levels. And we like solutions. We thrive on problem-solving. And innovation. Better aim. Experimentation. Creativity. These are all very connected. 3. Autistic people often have more formal/logical reasoning. #LittleProfessorSyndrome I do realize I'm not everyone's cup of tea, & that humans tend to immediately dismissively and often antagonistically read such differences as unlikable/wrong/suspect/dumb/immoral and even demonic, etc. A boy not far from here was killed during an exorcism to "alleviate" him from his autism, and he's not the only one that's happened to. Autistic people may suffer more domestic abuse. Even outside of such atrocity and trauma, people like me are routinely more subject to abuses socially, so we can be far more observant & sensitive to power paradigms--non-violent equality and equity vs. abusive power and control struggles. Some people are just unhappy & want to sow their seeds of misery anywhere they can to see what will take root. The more misery, the less they feel they have to challenge the state they've gotten themselves in, or their life choices. It can be a very maladaptive stress & fear reaction, as we may will know, and we're living through times of great change & heightened uncertainty. There's a lot of division politically, and I think it's deeply, deeply conditioned a lot of people to seek out and dish out negativity without enough functional filters, like these: * Is it kind, is it wise, is it necessary? * Is it just, is it responsible, is it sustainable, does it honor dignity? * Is it hopeful, is it equitable, is it empowering, does it foster understanding? * Is it forward-thinking, is it prudent, is it adaptable, does it mitigate risk? In recent decades, historically speaking, this divisive negativity seems to act as an addiction. They're in the abuse paradigm, and that paradigm is all about feeling like they have ____ (power, money, things, situations) at someone else's expense. That's on them. Humans already are constantly seeking out whether you have to defer to them or whether you have more status and clout than them. Status and clout, however, are the least reliable indicators of demonstrable character. 👉 I think culturally, we've been backsliding on emotional intelligence and orthopraxy (correct actions, like hospitality or 'if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all') as the drink we swim in has increasingly been all about dogma (correct belief) be that watercolor, influencer, political, or religious dogma. This means that no matter what the reason for your thinking or acting differently, you're going to get higher levels antagonism. Better functioning intelligence requires emotional intelligence and intellect to constantly inform each other, bringing reality checks, fact checks, heart checks, and people together. To drive the point home, people with some of the highest recorded IQs are among those who can be unnecessarily nasty, divisive, and prone to sorts of bad and often dumb behavior. There's a place for you. Here's why. If I want more exacting, finicky traditional watercolor stuff, yes I'm going to go to someone else. If I'm in a playful 'let's just do this, let's play and grow' mood, which is absolutely invaluable to getting started, exploring, and busting through art blocks, I'm going to come to you. And I appreciate your positive, kind nature!

@@KristyRiceI can't help but notice you're also agreeing with those calling her names, like a snob. You asked her to review you and she did. You say you're OK with it, but I am getting *very* mixed signals on that being true. In all her comments I've read regarding this, she sticks to her words and does so every single time. There are no mixed signals for me on that side of the fence. I do hope you're feeling worlds better. That had to be so bloody scary, and I'm sorry you experienced that, especially during vacation and family time. Hugs.

@@treesapgrl it’s incredibly easy for anyone to get mixed signals about this topic from myself or Lindsay. Countless folks felt mixed signals from the words vs. tone in Lindsay’s review and countless have felt mixed signals from me as I tend to use asides and jokes when I speak. It’s natural for there to be vastly different interpretations of our words and behavior because we all come to the table with vastly different lived experiences that impact how we interpret the world.

Lindsay usually highlights the strengths and respectfully notes the weakness with grace; it's what her subs want. As a design student (long ago), I just loved a good critique, because It was hard to be objective about my own work at first. Going through that process with my peers was invaluable; showed me where my strengths and weakness were.

There may be a demographic (silent majority)? On RU-vid, Of which I’m a member.I don’t usually comment, or read comments mainly because I don’t feel qualified. I do try to remember to give thumbs up. I’m afraid RU-vid somehow judges you guys by the number of comments. I watch most of the watercolor artists on RU-vid and learn different things from each of you . I appreciate you putting yourselves out there. I started watching during the pandemic and picked up a paint brush for the first time . I’m 75 years old, widowed, and live alone. Thank you SO much for introducing me to watercolor. I can’t tell you how much you have brought into my life. Now I make all my cards Christmas, birthday, get well thinking of you … Our society in general seems to be getting more unkind. I hope we can turn this around. I appreciate you introducing me to WC and continuing to teach and encourage us.

I can’t watch cause I’m at work but 2 things: - I paint now because of you. It helps my anxiety and fuels my soul in a way I was missing. - A smart woman once told me (among many) - to forget rules and embrace joy. I know there’s a privilege to applying that philosophy to our job(s) but if this platform is no longer a joyous place for you then no one here has the right to judge if you leave it (or take a break). I usually don’t comment. But I feel that you should know that regardless of what people say your palette, brushes, they bring joy. I have an extraordinarily stressful job that deals with difficult and dark topics and my personal life has been stressful these last few years. I found your channel about a year and a half ago and it literally changed my life. It helped me find peace and joy and strength at a time when I needed it most just by having a beautiful hobby. My time sitting down with my cute self made palette (that I learned to make here) and your brushes which make me happy as soon I see them at my table. The palette you made helped me teach a little girl to make bubbles and talk about what was causing her grief. It helped me pass the time with my grandmother in the hospital. (She really loved the blue) I don’t always make the most beautiful art with your palette (I’m a beginner and stress painter) but I have never sat down to paint with these products and not found joy. I may not be a professional artist but I actually have had people request to buy the paintings i did with your pretty palette. I hope you keep finding joy in creating these products and sharing your love.

why should she have to contact directly to get the one with lightfastness ratings? she's giving an honest review of a pallet that someone might receive.
@bluewren65
@bluewren65 7 месяцев назад
Please read this with a kind voice. I agree with you that "professional" when referring to an artist or the quality of their work is arbitrary to a degree. However, when referring to "professional products" there very much is a standard definition, one which does not benefit anyone when it is not used appropriately. To be considered professional grade, a product must have the pigment information and independently assessed lightfastness ratings stated up front. The pigment load must be very high and the quality of the binders must be high to ensure the product behaves in a way that reflects the best that medium can be. I believe that Lindsay's criticism that the label of "professional" on your watercolour set is not accurate is justified. I did not perceive any unkindness or bias in her review. I can't even begin to imagine how much work it is to bring a line of products to market, so kudos to you. When we create artwork it can be very difficult to assess its quality as to technique and artistry because of our emotional involvement in its creation, which is why we seek critique from artists we trust. I can see from your video that this is also true about your investment of time and work and emotion into this product line. I don't know if you sent the product to other artists for critique before you went to market or not, but I would imagine that it would be very valuable to get that feedback before a product is launched. Had you sent one to Lindsay while the watercolour set was still in development you could have had a discussion about the "professional" label and perhaps saved a lot of heartache on all sides. I wish you the very best, I'm sure there will be countless people who will get much joy from your products.

You say you have no ill feelings toward Lindsay, but the longer I hear you speak here, the more sadness & bad feelings I'm gleaning beneath your words, Kristy. Most of us who follow The Frugal Crafter, do so in great part for Lindsay's reviews. I value kindness & honesty above all. Your packaging/brand is lovely, sweet, quality, your affirmations positive ones, your bold, beautiful strokes of color are unmistakeable, but not everything in the art world IS positive & professional, & folks like me lost money they could not afford because no one wants bruised feelings. How can ALL of this be served with truth, dignity & hugs all 'round? How on earth can we all have a constant Kumbaya moment in the art world?

I appreciate your thoughts here I do and first I want to ask because I’m not 100% sure from what I’m reading. Did you purchase my palette and not like it and were unable to return it? If that is the case please I’m happy to offer a refund or a credit towards something that you would prefer. Please email hello@kristyrice.com As to my live. Firstly I’ve been receiving trolling comments and backlash about my palette since the very first time I talked about it on RU-vid. I’m no stranger to criticism-it’s usually an every day thing. Like seriously stop and imagine being criticized, grilled and demonized almost daily for a project you deeply believe in. It’s exhausting. But it does toughen you up. Second, I’m a cheeky, goofy, at times edgy, honest-mouthy artist. I don’t deny that my style of humor usually consisting of snappy but innocent asides and jokes can easily be misinterpreted, but it’s me, and this live had me feeling like i could be myself. I can completely respect the outcome, tone and style of Lindsay’s review but also comment on ways I may have done it differently or laugh and make jokes about Arches paper (because let’s face it paper is ridiculously controversial too). I can have two feelings at once-respect for Lindsay and a bit of sadness that this all went down the way it did re: the community, without being accused of being manipulative (others words about my live, not yours). Can I not?

This person review of your paint set I found totally off the chart I found none of the issues that she seemed to want to go to great links to point out I found her review, even though you seem OK with it, I found it kind of snobbish and unfounded without having any facts to back it up. keep doing what you do keep breaking the rules that some professionals seem to keep making. While I did not agree with her full assessment of my palette, I continue to respect her place in our community. Despite asking my community to not rush her review and defend my work, a few early comments yesterday stoked the fires in Lindsay’s comment section. I continue to respond to comments in both communities that do not uphold what I believe to be a safe creative space in our community. I feel strongly that creators like myself and Lindsay have a responsibility to set the tone for safe spaces in our comments’ sections. It wasn’t until yesterday that I realized how dire of a need there is for this in our community. We all can do better, myself included. It feels good to be defended by your community, but all too quickly, fast paced commenting, without proper consideration, can snowball into a chaotic dumpster fire of hurtful bully-like narratives ripe for pushing someone over their edge.

It was an ugly situation. There will always be nasty ugly hearts. But I hope we all try harder to accept communication of views we don’t agree with. Why can’t we have discussions. So much personal growth results from frank discussions. I always pray for people and God to challenge me. It’s how I become a better me. Defensive hearts are just rampant and they don’t make us better people.

Dear Kristy, your title caught my attention this morning. This is from someone that purchased your books and was inspired by you long before I ever saw you on You tube. Then when I found your channel I was delighted by your authenticity and the sheer joy you brought to learning watercolor. You are a Creative Lightworker and that is so important. Your positivity, enthusiasm, knowledge and kindness have you leading by example. You are teaching so much more than watercolor. You have a “Tribe” and they are kind…can you feel the collective hug? Isn't this all just nuts? I cannot BELIEVE that Miss Kristy took this on such a personal level. Do you think she's just trolling for attention? Lindsay was nothing but KIND and honest. I thought that the paints didn't look anything like the professional paints I have ever purchased. And the paper is fine for someone who is just messing around but nothing more serious than that.

@@debh3404let’s me nice! I think this video came from an accumulation of the negativity she’s been receiving and the comment section of Lindsey’s review made her go over the edge. I do agree about the use professionalism is not the standard of the way everyone uses professional paints. I think it would be great for her to come up with a quirky definition of professional paints she can use on her products. As far as standard professional paint goes I wouldn’t trust them to stay bright for a perlonged period of time. Also regarding the swatches being a gradient I find it a bit odd since Kristy is the one known for swatching paints however you want like leaves, circles, etc etc

@@PayneWaterStudio You are sweet! I definitely agreed with her about Lindsay not using good paper. One of the papers she used was just gross. I think it's a postcard paper (Hahnemuhle???) and I bought those and in my opinion, they SUCK!!! Then L talked about scaling. Well, I would like to see other paints swatched on those same postcards. I'm pretty sure the results wouldn't be pretty. NOT enjoyable paper to paint on and the results are terrible.But...K really took things over the top with the ME ME ME thing as related to her paints. JMHO. It reeks of....not a good look. But really, "professional grade" paints are definitely much more pigmented and behave much better. There is just no arguing about that. K's "professional" label just isn't correct. And she knows it but had to find a way to cover for herself.

I took a watercolour class about 20 years ago. The instructor was absolutely awful. Nothing any of my fellow students produced was even close to being ok, and all she could do was criticize and point out why it didn't work. I left one of her classes in tears, and finished the classes, but it didnt get better. I put my supplies away and thought I'd never return to painting. Since watching you and others on RU-vid and Instagram, I thought maybe I could start again. I still hear that womans voice in my head. I don’t feel crushed though. So many completely understood my live yet still a very small minority didn’t? I’m advocating for safe spaces and responsible commenting in videos in this community and unfortunately Lindsay’s review comment section wasn’t :( But it’s not just her comment section, it’s many, including mine. Many art creators are talking publicly and behind the scenes about just this topic. It’s getting quite difficult to navigate the ugliness thrown at many creators right now, Lindsay included! I’ve advocated repeatedly for us both in hers and my own comment section. Oh Kristy…before social media, people were aware that their spoken or written words came with consequences. And integrity was a thing. And kindness mattered. Now, there isn’t a social media outlet that isn’t infested with mean spirited trolls, just waiting for the opportunity to be hateful. It can be so incredibly random and cold. I’m 69 years old, and I picked up a paintbrush for the first time just a few short years ago. And that was only after watching many months worth of RU-vid tutorials. I learned so much from so many, but was still hesitant to try something new at my age. And it was you, Kristy, that finally convinced me to try. I wanted your joy. And I find that joy, when I sit down to paint, thanks mainly to you. Painting makes me happy. I ask nothing more of it. There is no room in this happy world for meanness. It just doesn’t fit. Personally, I wish the RU-vid watercolor community of artists would not critique and review one another. Your viewers can form their own opinions. And your products will always appeal to some and not to others. Art is so subjective, so personal. I just feel those kind of reviews open up doors for those who think they know it all, or just wish to hurt. I come to RU-vid to check on what my favorite tutorial artists are up to. I’m happy when you paint for us, teach us, talk to us about your lives, and encourage us. I’d rather skip the reviews and the ensuing drama. I come for the joy. Keep bringing it, Kristy! ❤

i love your videos but in the review she said you sent the products to her, so why was it her responsibility to make sure she received the correct packaging? and brands put the pigment numbers on paints because specific pigments DO behave in certain ways whether or not the person is going to be selling the artwork. not believing that doesn't make it arbitrary. something just feels off about all this considering your justification for the "professional" label is that you say you have to use that or it won't sell on amazon. i'm also curious what kind of criticism of the products would have been allowed. i'm not sure if a live stream was the smartest way to defend yourself here because it comes off as incredibly condescending which i assume is not what you want when you're trying to sell a philosophy of ~sparking joy~ and ~good vibes~
@KristyRice
@KristyRice 7 месяцев назад
My intention in this live was not to be condescending or defensive but I fully accept and understand that my particular way of speaking, making jokes and communicating in general can be interpreted that way. I don’t wish to continue sharing my thoughts about pigment information as I have responded to countless comments here and elsewhere with this information explaining my stance. Lastly I did not state it was Lindsay’s “responsibility” to ensure she received the correct packaging. What I shared was a wish/hope/desire-in a perfect world-type of expression that Lindsay would have checked in with me when she realized she hadn’t received the packaging we had discussed our email exchanges. Of course it isn’t her responsibility and I have no hard feelings that she didn’t reach out, but one can hope!? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’lol attempt to respond to your question of being curious about what type of criticisms would have been allowed but I’m not sure I understand the question. I’ve expressed countless ways in countless places over the last few days, that I have no issues with the criticisms of Lindsay’s review but instead of some comments seen across both channels. I have always been an advocate for deep kindness in real life and behind the screen and very quickly Lindsay’s review sparked the exact opposite from both my community and hers, and I felt a responsibility to speak up about it.

Wait... did I get that right? You asked Lindsay for a review, (which I saw) knowing in advance she gives honest reviews (reviews based on her knowledge, always comparing between brands to give her viewers a point of comparison) which I supposed THAT was what you were looking for, since you decided to ask her... but let's face it, pretty calculated move, since she has so many followers. A good review from her would rocket your sales. Then again, any press is good press if it places you on the spotlight. So I'm not surprised if you are selling more. I, for once, would like to buy those beautiful tins. And I wouldn't have known you sold those empty, if it werent for her, who was so kind, as to include your website later on. I get the purpose of this video, even though is somewhat disguise... we know. But what threw me off, was that comment about how Lindsay got an old box, with no pigment info, but you expected HER to contact you and ask you if that was the correct product?!!! OH COME ON!!!! If I were to send a product to review, specially by someone as transparent as she is, I WOULD MAKE SURE IM SENDING THE CORRECT PRODUCT!!! I would check and double check! And if someone asks me to review a product and send me the product, WHY WOULD I CONTACT THAT PERSON TO CHECK IF THAT IS THE PRODUCT TO BE REVIEWED!!! Not my intention to make you feel bad, but is not on my hands if you do. I'm just stating the obvious.

What I simply expressed was a disappointment that she didn’t reach out considering the level of detail I’d shared about the new packaging coming her way. We went back and forth about it and she expressed she too wanted to have the most updated packaging in hand to contain the pigment #’s. My disappointment that she didn’t reach out wasn’t a criticism, just an honest share. I stated in multiple places the mistake of her not receiving the updated packaging was my error. We can feel and express two emotions at one time.

I thought Lindsey’s review was fair. She has access to the best artist grade products. No one could expect her to give a product a 100% thumbs up. She points out the flaws in the most expensive brands let alone more reasonably priced collections like yours. She overall liked it. A small limited pallets is fun but of course she would want more colors. As far as the quality again let’s be fair to Lindsey , I don’t think she said anything unfair. If your fans aren’t buying and supporting you , that’s not her fault or responsibility. If you want honesty she is the go to person. Sometimes honesty isn’t what people like to hear , hence the attack on her personally. I came away wanting to buy the empty palette and one of the brush collections but the drama is a bit much over art products intended to spark joy.

I am super excited to try your brushes and I keep trying to get a palette and they are sold out. Keep being you and let your light shine bright.

I really appreciate this comment. I adore both you Kristy and Lindsay for very different reasons. I come to you to get out of my “rut” and just have fun and I like watching Lindsay for her knowledge of pigments and how they work (entertains my science-minded ways). Each of you is vastly different from each other and bring such wonderful and special aspects to the table. It’s really unfortunate that there is all this discourse when she did exactly what you asked her to 😊. My mother and I spent a great deal of time painting in your books over the holiday and we had a blast. I also liked Lindsay’s previous video using your products for exactly the reasons you teach: just painting for joy and getting out of a creative rut and she had a great time using your paints and products. Kudos to both of you for what you bring to the table and all you personally have accomplished. Published books and a product line from an independent woman-owned business is a phenomenal and ground breaking accomplishment. Keep doing you!

I know this is an old issue. I just wanted you to know that I just bought your brushes and they are gorgeous! I've seen other "professional artists" review your palette in lovely light and I might try them out some day. The only thing holding me back is the color limitation! I know, I know, "real artists mix their paints" but I paint for JOY so I like lots of juicy colors to choose from. But the tins are so pretty and maybe this silly of me but I LOVE when my supplies are nice to look at. It makes me happy and gets me excited just looking at my new brushes from you!

I love all your products! Infant I have double of your size 6 round travel brush so I never go without it. I think you and Lindsay just have 2 different art styles and I love Lindsay's reviews also! However, comment sections on youtube are as bad as Facebook. People are just looking to steal your time and energy so don't let them rent that space in your head. I get so depressed sometimes and I have to remind myself sometimes I can't make every person happy all the time ya know. And they may say things but those things are only their opinion and opinions change all the time. Give li day a few weeks of using your beautiful pallet and she may do a completely different review after using it for a little. The colors are beautiful and it's funny cuz my other most favorite pallet is my roman szmal lol and holbein. But mistakes happen and it will get better. I can't believe the commenters were so just disrespectful and horrible. Usually I thought Lindsay's group was pleasant but that changed my perception. Had no idea so many would not 1st use the pallet before knocking it. No amount of youtube videos watching someone use a pallet actually informs you of how much you will like or dislike it. It can look like the best thing since sliced bread and then you get it and you dislike it! And I mean big name brands. Every person will like different things and your pallet is awesome! People will try it if they aren't stupid and 95% will love it! Hope you feel better and love all of your products! Regardless of what the packaging says lol

Such a valid point. Half the reason my watercolor collection is so large is because reviews never seemed to communicate what I needed to know and understand. I simply resigned myself to becoming a collector!! I’ve not been fully myself the last 4 months or so and should have been more self aware than to watch reviews during this time. Not an excuse for my emotions but an explanation. It’s getting increasingly tough in this RU-vid climate - I feel it deeply myself and see it in the videos of colleagues and friends in my field. Many creators are struggling. I just choose to very publicly share the struggle.

@@KristyRice I haven't been myself either over the last few months for a lot of reasons not the least of which is what you refer to in your comments, and in the events and circumstances that seem to promote and/or cause this sad state of affairs. That said, my default response, F. E. A. R., has caused me to hybernate the last 4-6 weeks, rather than excitedly meeting the new year, a leep year, with zeal and joy as I have done in past years. That said, I was pretty upset that this FrugalCrafter review was one of the few, and I'm all over the fluid arts world online at YT, FB, IG, Patreon, etc., of very few critical comments -- however gently applied -- in a channel segment fluid arts video. I like that channel and I'm a fan girl of yours since my energy in my art is very responsive to your approach. My personal policy is to ignore negative comments, flame threads, contentiousness or outright obnoxious voices any where and about any subject! I have no time for mess; I turn the channel just as I would on my t.v. or on the radio, at the library, etc. "Parents," or in this case, veterans -- upset "the kids" when they are in conflict. So, there is that piece of this. This is between you and Lindsay, I believe. There are no sides in this, so to speak, since there is a wealth of information, knowledge, guidance and inspiration to be derived from both Kristy Rice, and The Frugal Crafter which is my primary purpose for being here. That's all I really care about. However, I was concerned about your 👁️ eyes -- and how this effected you. That sucks! You're a free spirit and those of us who are similarly situated, me for one, are often pot-shotted. I ignore it now, but it took forever for me to get to that level. It's made me stronger, like Kelly Clarkson's song, Stronger. So, remember Bonnie Raitte -- I Can't Make You Love Me! And, keep it movin'! You be you, boo! ❤❤❤❤ I think the brand suffers because of this unrequested review. I would never have done what TFCer did. We don't allow that kind of throwing down the gauntlet in "the pouring" community I come from, to my knowledge. Back in 2020, however, there was a bit of similar kerfuffle like this just as I was a newbie to that area of art, and my major "mentors" and sources of inspiration were not having a bit of it, and spoke out quite strongly! After reducing the negative attention and energy afforded this incident, to my knowledge, it fizzled. And, there are so many very successful artists, channel providers, strong personalities, etc. in that fluid segment. You would think there would be many opportunities for competition to get out of hand under those circumstances, but thankfully, I'm unaware of it going that way. Rather so many collaborative activities, auctions, the Conference in Las Vegas last Fall etc. seem to be where the energy is directed to make more, better art brought to a broader community! That's the kind of result and focus I prefer people I learn from to exhibit so that I who seek to develop both of your and The Frugal Crafter's levels of expertise is not diverted from learning. Be strong! Love your joy and wonder! Thank you for airing this out! It's always better out than in! There are a lot of disgruntled voices coming out these days, more than in the past, in my opinion. If you are able to continue to be you as you have chosen to be in the past, I'm good with it, and I believe you know -- no shots unless you are doing good stuff!! Stay strong!

Kristy, I have a membership with you on Patreon and watch all of your videos. I know you don't need to be defended but I am compelled to say the following: I own my law practice. It has been the hardest thing I have probably ever done in my life. The level of stress as an attorney is high EVERY SINGLE DAY and the only way you get through it, in my opinion,is to have a hobby that you love and look forward to. Watercolor is not just a hobby to me; it is a way of life and I look forward to reading about it, using it, and learning EVERY DAY. I want you to know that finding your videos and falling in love with watercolor is because of YOU and it keeps me going. I honestly don't care what someone else has to say about your paint, you, your brand, etc. What matters is how I feel about what you created, that it CAME FROM YOU, and the fact that you want people to derive JOY from painting --- it all makes me so happy! I love the design of your palettes and the positive message. I love the vibrant colors of your paint and the way they PLAY together. The brushes are great. The way you put the paint colors together speaks loud and clear that it all comes from a place of love and creativity, not to mention years of experience. Above all, I love that you recognize that sometimes we are our own toughest critics or maybe for a while allow others to somehow detract from our good intentions. But you always tell us, your students, that although we may doubt, we need to be FEARLESS! Your message reaches me on so many different levels, even beyond art. I am a collector of all brands of watercolor because I listen to the videos when you demonstrate them for us - the infamous swatching! But I will note that any time you have reviewed paints, particularly the handmade watercolors, you have always found some JOY in all of them, even if some more than others. I sincerely hope you never stop creating, or doing what you do, and letting us into your corner of the world. I have done videos for law and even some podcast episoes, so I know how hard that is and I cannot image doing it LIVE. And since this comment is super long and I apologize for that, I will say this to sum up: YOU ARE STRONG, TALENTED, MAGNETIC, KIND, LOVING, A GREAT TEACHER, AND EMBODY ALL THINGS WATERCOLOR. WE NEED YOU AND NOTHING OR ANYONE can detract from it. Keep crushing it GIRLFRIEND and I will KEEP WATCHING!

Hi Kristy, I am a newbie to watercolor painting after being interested for multiple (20+?) decades but never pursued it as I found it - or should I say allowed it - to intimidate me. I am an artist in acrylic, chalk, some sketching, and a wide variety of other crafts. Finding your RU-vid channel was like a breath of fresh air! Your enthusiastic encouragement and continued emphasis on "painting for the JOY" & stop trying for "perfect" was an enormous help to me as I was not only starting at 63 years young but also recently paralyzed from the chest down with minimal hand mobility and muscle weakness. With my current physical challenges I knew I would have to modify brush holding and sketching but YOU made be believe I could do this watercolor painting thing. I find your tutorials very informative, engaging, with a bit of humor 😜 thrown in! I have been quite pleased with the paintings I have done. I have yet to master the water ratio and it could be the Canon paper though I am not sure. I have shared pictures of my paintings on my Caring Bridge page and now have people interested in purchasing my artwork 🤔😮😁☺‼️ Your being real about this issue is important. I have chosen not to read that trash bashing as I know some people will say horrible, unkind, hurtful things online that they would never say to you face-to-face. I say shame on them for their unnecessary and hurtful words. As @xhoxolatequilts said on a different post, "you are not for everyone... you are perfect for most of us" JUST AS THE WONDERFUL YOU. I want to thank you for giving / being the wind beneath my 'painting wings' ✏🎨🖼🖌 💗😊💗 If you or anyone else has advice Imon how to protect my painting property from illegal copying as I am starting a Print on Demand websit I would be very grateful. 💗 I hope you don't quit because of some nastiness as you and your encouragement is so needed in this space!! ❤😊❤

Please don't let negative comments get you down. Nothing in your video convinced me your pans are professional grade. HOWEVER, i dont think that matters. What matters is your curated colors and your vision. That's why your supporters buy them. And there's nothing wrong with that. You created a vision, a message, and several products. All of those things have value, regardless of someone else's opinion or review.

Honestly no, that word doesn’t matter to me. It’s an alluring words that implies quality and I know my paints are quality but to fit everyone’s definition of that word? It’s a waste of energy. It’s a word tossed around too much and at the same time used to hold souls back too much. So that word doesn’t really impact what I’m here to do. It’s become a bit meaningless over time when it’s put on too high a pedestal.

I’m glad you said the point about “it only taking one comment”. When praying about going live today I felt a ping in my soul ask “what if words like this are being spoken over someone who is in a truly desperate place and it puts them over the edge.” You just don’t know the snowball effect your words can have. I’m just out of the hospital, feeling super emotionally fragile for reasons I haven’t shared and this all hit me hard, really hard. But my recent experience I guarantee pales in comparison to what some other creators are facing baying the camera. I know I can’t change the RU-vid watercolor comment culture in one day but to not speak up against this type of…okay I’m going to say it…. bullying in creators’ comments’ section, then am I part of the problem?

Now, I didn't read every comment, of course, but I nothing jumped out as ugly or unfair. There were some very good remarks about the definition of professional and the need for standards.
@KristyRice
@KristyRice 7 месяцев назад
I agree about Lindsay’s review-honest, fair and balanced. I’ve watched this situation unfold since approximately 15 minutes after the review went live. And evolved it has. Most of the troublesome comments are in sub threads, where you see 2+comments under an original…there were plenty claiming quite confidently that I was misleading in my marketing, a liar, accusing me of creating “garbage” and that I didn’t care about my viewer’s bank accounts, etc, that I’m all about $$ At this point many a commenter could have deleted their thoughts or honestly some could have been reported and removed by RU-vid for going against community guidelines. Either way it would be impossibly to know. And lastly yes there were indeed many good, well composed and thought out comments about professional standards that I’ve taken to heart.

Hi, Kristy. THANK you for so many things about this video. First off all, your vulnerability and openess in this emotional moment. You appear so joyful and happy as you help me chase my fear to make art, I feel more inspired and connected to you seeing you work through this with your brush. Additionally, I bought one set of your brushes and your palette about 3 months ago and I've been in looooove. ❤️ Your palette actually shocked me. It's so unique with the neon and the soft beige. I've never met another girl like her. I put my other supplies in the closet. Then, i bought all your other unique and wonderful brushes and 3 of your books! And you KNOW I'm indignantly inspired to leave my opinions on AMazon. I bought your products because of the YOU in them. They are unique, and even though I have been "trying" to paint through a self-inflicted pressure to be perfect, You've taught me how to get over myself and find an emotional connection to my art. You've given me tools. You've given me knowledge. You've given me inspiration as an artist and as a woman. You've given me the courage to be more myself, lose the fear, and paint THE THING. Please don't ever stop. ❤

I won’t say anything more than this: I was not aware of this syndrome but learning about it has given me much peace. Thank You.

I’m a brand spanking new watercolor painter. I’ve recently retired and wanted to bring back my creative side after 32 years of a very analytical job. Your RU-vid videos were the first I watched and you gave me the courage to start my watercolor journey without feeling I have to be a dedicated professional artist to put paint to the paper! Thank you!! I watch everything you put out and have learned so much. And you are such a sweet fun person that I feel like you’re a friend. 💕 So amazed by your talent.

I’m overwhelmed and honestly embarrassed. Feel like my attempt to pushback on troll like behavior makes me look like a Wendy whiner! But it’s okay. Either way I am trying to put better out into our community 🤷🏻‍♀️😭🙋🏻‍♀️

Hang in there, Christy! I imagine it feels like someone picking on your children when the comments get so bad. You and all your products have given joy to me! I have given paints, brushes and books as gifts and everyone loves your approach. Thank you and continue to be fearless and joyful.

As a new watercolor painter, I really enjoy your videos. I’ve learned so much about the basics of painting from you. And when I’ve been discouraged and felt ready to quit, I borrowed your joy and energy to keep going. Keep up the positivity!
