Tips and steps on how to remove paint from concrete. I purchased my diamond grinder wheel from home depot for $50 but I found a cheaper one linked below. Amazon Affiliate link: Diamond wheel and dust shield: amzn.to/388OJ9l

This is exactly what I started doing. I figured it out sort of by accident. It is taking me forever but I realized with a chemical stripper I’d probably have to sit and scrape with a hand tool so this is better.
I briefly tried this method with the Mikita diamond cup 5 inch grinding wheel. I tried with and without a vacuum attachment on my grinder. For a variety of reasons it did not work at all. My floor was very flat. But I think yours was uniformly much more smooth. Also super crazy dust accumulation inside.
The dust port is a must for any inside grinding. The concrete that I removed the paint from was a smooth finish. Not a broom finish. How did you end up doing to remove the paint? Always looking for tips or tricks. Thanks
Handy Landlord at this point I am totally stumped. Tried heat gun-tortuously slow and ineffective. Propane torch, again slow and ineffective in many parts. Dremel oscillating scraper with the heat. 36 grit sanding on makita hand held. I looked into the Home Depot rentals that are used for mastic and mortar. Would of course remove the paint, however reviews on that is they are a beast to handle and chew up the floor. I can see that happening based on my experience with the mini version of that - the diamond cut attachment. Probably going to a tile place and see what they do in these situations. My guess is they probably would not even take the job. They say you can’t put thinset over painted concrete. Suggestions?
Sounds like you have a tough situation on your hands. After thinking about this for a day or so. I would try a few things like paint striper, wire wheel on an angle grinder, maybe a flap disk for the angle grinder? You could also look into renting a hardwood floor drum sander with coarse sandpaper. Not knowing all the conditions of your job, these are just a few ideas. Any way you go it's probably going to be a lot of work and labor intense. Keep us updated.
Happy it helped!! I’ve since switched to a larger setup(a 7 inch ridged angle grinder and 7 inch diamond disk) from homedepot. Larger setup is nice when working on larger areas. For reference it’s on my amazon page under concrete. Thanks for watching. www.amazon.com/shop/handylandlord?ref_=cm_sw_r_mwn_aipsfshop_aipsfhandylandlord_KY6EKWDJDAAVYB6YZE2Y
Looks good. Quick question I’ve got a house with concrete paint and the wife wants flagstone added to top. I think I’ve got to strip the coating off to get the flagstone to stick to the mortar/concrete. Is this what you think too?
Blake Emerson Yeah I think I would grind it down a little so the mortar has something to grab to. Check out this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QDIVrSTyAwY.html I’m using a 7in angle grinder from harbor freight.
Hi! So my house is being painted but I need to remove some paint on our front porch. It’s chipped away in some spots and is not shiny so I do not believe there is epoxy on it (I plan on putting epoxy on the new). What method do I use to remove that paint and where can I find the tool for not too much money (covid projects on a budget😆)
Few things: I always like to power wash concrete before starting to grind to see if the paint will come up. If it doesn’t come all up I’ve had success with a product called peel stop. You scrape anything that’s loose then apply the peel stop to seal down the edges of the areas that are chipping. Then apply new paint over top. If you are looking to grind off old paint, harbor freight sells a good cheap grinder and grinding wheel. Hope this helps good luck on your project.
I used multistrip to remove 20 year old paint from my cement porch. It didn't help much. Should I wait until the cement is dry before using the grinder?
I have also used the grinder with water running over the concrete from a garden hose to keep the dust down. It does fling a concrete slurry everywhere so beware of that. Grinding is the best method I have found to remove the paint of a power washer doesn’t do the job.
I would like to do this to the front steps of my house but we started with a paint stripper and a paint scraper. The problem is that it's a very slow process and now we want to get an nylon/metal drill brush or a disk sander...is there a possibility that it can spark the paint stripper since it is flammable? Most of the paint is gone already. Please reply if possible. Thanks
FERNANDO ALMADER To be safe I would clean up as much of the paint stripper as possible. Then I would wash down the steps with water, soap and a scrub brush. Rinse throughly with water, just to be safe. Then you could start removing the reminder if the paint. Good luck on your project!
The previous owner painted our garage floor red and of course now looks like you know what. I have been putting this project off waiting for a better option than pressure washing. This looks like a viable option. Could you provide a list of recommended items to purchase. I’m thinking I could control a 7” angle grinder or use what you initially did. Any information you provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Your final product looked outstanding!
J. Rocket I recently purchased a harbor freight 7inch angle grinder. I also purchased a diamond grinding wheel from harbor freight. Both worked great. The dust shroud I purchased was from amazon and it was terrible. I will link the video of me grinding a basement wall using the harbor freight setup. Good luck on your project.
I need help. I live in a new rental home and my bf had used spray paint to paint his bike. He used black n golds and i can see it on the concrete floor and dont know how to get it off. I dont wanna get in trouble with the landlord, how can i get it off cause it looks like in the corners of the garage theres patches of black over spray. He says it was like that already but i dont believe it
Ania 🌸 I would not recommend what I did in this video. You probably only have a light dusting of paint on the floor. You could try to scrubbing it off with scotch brite pads, wire brush and hot hot water. If that doesn’t work, I would use lacquer thinner or acetone to remove it. Just be careful. Make sure to rinse with water. Good luck on your project. Let me know what works. Thanks for watching
Ania 🌸 hopefully the overspray comes up easy. I would still try the scotch brite pads, wire brush and hot water maybe some type of soap. If that doesn’t work I would try the lacquer thinner or acetone on a rag to see if it works. Would love to know how you get it removed. Keep me posted thanks
On my rehab series I need to remove some paint on a concrete patio. I have never used a diamond wheel on a 7 inch grinder, but will try it and let know.
Angel Lawless I picked up a harbor freight 7 inch angle grinder and diamond wheel to grind down some block walls. It’s easy enough to control with 2 hands. I’m not too impressed with the dust shield I purchased from amazon.
Handy Landlord i ended up picking up a makita 4.5”, dust shield with vac port, diamond cup. worked pretty well. grinding the paint off the concrete of my patio (approx. 10x20) took quite a while though. maybe 2, 4 hour sessions.
Carpaintry of God ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QDIVrSTyAwY.html Yeah I use it to remove paint from basement walls. Thanks for watching.
@@handylandlord thank you. I'm a painting contractor but I've never had to sand secure paint from concrete. The client wants his outside of his building level and where the paint is chipped leaves a bit of a canyon so I have to grind it all down. I was unsure how to take care of it so I'm happy I found your video. I'm also happy you reply to questions. So thank you again
The Gaming Fox I’ve never tried. It might lighten the stain but not sure it would remove it completely due to concrete being porous. Let me know how it turns out. Good luck on your project.
d mald This was actually 2 layers in the video. If you search paint removal disk for angle grinder on amazon. They have some other types that look like a sponge material. I can add a link when I get home. Thanks for watching good luck on your project.
Thanks. I agree that I needed a respirator unfortunately, it was on another job across town. I do try and wear proper safety gear but unfortunately this time I failed. Figured a n-95 was better than nothing. Thanks for watching
Handy Landlord that's the thing, by the time i rent all that i could have just bought the angle grinder plus accessories and kept it forever. thanks for the info my guy.

🦘🦘🦘🦘 ... I found this GREAT IDEA on another site & want to share it if anyone has this same problem & how to fix it. I had a terracotta pot with a wonderful indented fancy pattern etched into it when it was made, around the top & bottom sections of the sides of the pot. It had been well painted with thick black paint then sprayed over with a tough shiny, hard, silver paint over the black, but ONLY on one side of the pot!! I wanted to strip the paint to return it to pure terracotta again & fully preserve the pattern. ................ I read that full strength 🌿🦘EUCALYPTUS OIL🦘🌿 dissolves paint. I found a 50ml bottle in my cupboard & used an old toothbrush to brush in & massage into the paint: small amounts of pure Euc oil. I let it work into the paint, scrubbing it in. Soon the top silver layer dissolved away so I dripped on more oil & used old tooth brush to scrub into the black paint within the intricate etched pattern. Soon the black paint turned to tar like substance as it softened & mixed with Euc oil. I used a small wire brush & a few squirts of WD40 to scrub away the softened tar like thick black paint. WD40 will not work by itself on paint, only use to remove the tar like paint after Euc oil works. It does not take a lot of Euc Oil, use sparingly drop by drop. Clean brushes of build up if needed, with turpentine or WD40 & rub with old rag. Worked well. Used an angle grinder scrub pad on large smooth portion of pot. Wiped it with a good smear of Euc oil & left to soften, then used angle grinder with pad & it came off in one buzz. Cheers.
