Welcome back to Rosemaling with Art of Lise!
Often in this beautiful art form known as rosemaling or in other wonderful decorative painting styles, we need to repeat patterns over and over again to complete a design.
This video follow up my demonstration of how to use chalk and Tracing paper to repeat a pattern on the outside rim of this 16" wooden Basswood plate where I demonstrate painting the pattern and detailing it as well. Just a follow up - .I painted center of this plate in the Telemark style of Rosemaling and have done a burled wood antiquing on the outer rim of the plate.

What is Rosemaling?
Rosemaling is the traditional painted decorative folk art from Norway that began in the 1600's. Because of Norway's mountainous terrain and hundreds of valleys, the people of Norway had many dialects, native costume, traditions, ext. Norway also had a wealth of artisan traditions to draw from dating from the Viking era. When decorative painting styles reached Norway in the 1600's, it went into all this different areas and created over 15 different styles of Rosemaling, hence making it one of the most interesting folk arts to learn about and to paint. This style is traditionally painted on wood, but may be translated onto other surface areas.

Hi Lise! I just found your channel, amazing! My grandmother was an amazing rosemaling-painter. She just passed away, sadly. Afterwards, I found myself drawn towards rosemaling, and after sitting here for an hour practicing my C's and S's, I finally got some nice strokes! Thanks for teaching

I actually began rosemaling with my Grandmother many years ago and it is a wonderful connection that I still have with her. Rosemaling is good for the soul and I am so happy that my video is there for you. Thank you again and sending blessings your way!

I am really enjoying your channel. I'm wondering how you paint such crisp black beads around that beautiful burled finish. I have trouble with the black from the beading getting on the burled part. Thank you.

Thank you so much for enjoying my channel! Painting beads on these plates are challenging. Over the years I have tried various methods but what I found works for me is using a small flat brush to help paint the bead. I use the chiseled edge of the brush to get the edge between the bead and the burled portion of the plate. Slowly working my way around the plate. I have a piece of paper towel handy to wipe any excess black and also a wipe out tool. It's a slow process, but it works. I will try to do a video going over this soon! I hope this helps a little!!
