Welcome to Rosemaling by Art of Lise. Rosemaling is a Norwegian traditional painted folk art that I have been fortunate to have been doing since the age of 11. Fun little fact , my name is Norwegian for Lisa and pronounced the same way. For the last couple of years, I’ve had fun putting together videos on my Facebook page, @artoflise1, showing my work and demonstrating. I have had so many people ask me to do more videos, that I decided it was time to share on my own channel. I hope you have fun watching the various videos that I will be posting, learn more about Rosemaling, perhaps start Rosemaling at home yourself, or just sit and enjoy. What a beautiful work. I live in Brazil and learned a little of this technique about twenty years ago, but I haven't practiced it for a long time. Could you tell me what the medium is for?
❤Thank you so very much! I have some friends, an older couple who's family is heavily rooted in Norway. They loved traveling back and visiting family and also had many beautiful peices and collectables.... tragically their home recently burned down and they barely made it out themselves.... I would like to learn this painting style and create some special artwork for them.

I am working on putting together an on demand teaching site where the classes aren't live but you get tutorials and I hope to have some worksheets/workbooks put together by this fall. I'm so glad to have found your videos! I've always been interested in rosemaling but never new where to start. I was hoping you might make a video(s) about designing a piece. Such as tips, dos/don'ts, primary components, etc. Thanks!

Are there steps to take if you are preparing a piece for being outdoors? I am planning to paint the sides of my new little library to be outside in my front yard. Thanks!!!
Dear Lise, I absolutely love your videos and your didactical skills ☺ I stumbled upon your channel while looking for flowery ideas to paint old doors I am restoring. Your tutorials are excellent and really helped me discover this type of art (I am completely new to painting and never thought I had any talent, but thanks to you the exercises I do are pretty good ☺and yes, I practise, practise, practise). I would love to buy Telemark workbooks from you and also a series of Telemark classes for beginners and onwards. So you have an idea how much I love your "happy little leaves" reminding me of Bob Ross whom you are very much alike in your teaching and warm and funny personality: I would get up at 3 a.m. in my time zone to participate in your evening classes ☺ Also more videos on detailing / embellishments would be very helpful! On workbooks / worksheets: hopefully we can solve shipments overseas (or in an electronical format and I can print them out). Lots and lots of love and admiration for you 🙏❤

Yeah for practice, practice practice and discovering your art talent! Thank you also for the comparison to Bob Ross. I loved him and painted along with him back in the day. That is an honor to be compared to him. I am working on workbooks/worksheets and more classes. I am working on putting together a email list as well so that I can share information about classes, etc. as well as patterns and all of that fun stuff. I am working on making it so that it is print on demand or electronic transfer so that it is easy for everyone. So many things in the air right not to work on!!!! It will take some time due to my awful schedule. Also I first have to be content with my rosemalings before daring to paint the doors. In addition, I am first taking the old paint down, then sanding them really well, then repairing them and sanding them again, then grounding, then base coating with a color paint. Plus the frames, which are almost as large in their surface as a door. But you are my inspiration and even if they are done next year, I will send you the result. Wow you painted together with Bob Ross!! 😍🤩👏 So wonderful! You are both so warm and kind and gentle, and so very very talented! (kindred spirits ☺ ) 👏 I am very happy about your practical approach to create patterns and workbooks in a ready-to-print electronic format, much easier to send and we can print as many copies as we need! PLEASE do both the course and the workbook. I’ll buy the workbook for myself and all of my nieces and grandma. You’re to me what I imagine bob ross was to a lot of people. I was just thinking how I wish you were on OPB for us here in Oregon so more people would stumble across you. Love this video so much and want to support you as much as possible. Finding anything on the details of telemark is impossible online. I would love to see in depth examples of the fine detailing! You always do beautiful linework, I would love to see all the reasons why and strokes! Here or a book would be wonderful!

I am working on putting together workbooks/sheets to help with the strokework and linework. There is so much to learn but starting with the basics helps so much!!! You are correct that I do combine a number of strokes in my detailing. My style in detailing has developed over the many years of painting and my hand and mind just goes into muscle memory mode while I detail. I would be happy to give more examples in regards to this. Thank you for asking!
Do you use oils or acrylics? I get ill from working with oils and have been working on doing Rosemaling with acrylics. So glad I found this channel. Not many Rosemalers around me to be able to watch and learn from.
Hello! I am painting in acrylics. I began ages ago with oils but switched to acrylics when I started having my kids in the early 2000's. I am really happy that you like the channel and all of the painting that I have done here is in acrylics. No, there are very few rosemalers online doing videos like I have over the past few years. But I am one of a number of rosemalers who do teach online zoom classes. If you go to www.rosemalingclasses.com, you will find good resources for teachers beside myself. I am really enjoying your channel. I'm wondering how you paint such crisp black beads around that beautiful burled finish. I have trouble with the black from the beading getting on the burled part. Thank you.
Thank you so much for enjoying my channel! Painting beads on these plates are challenging. Over the years I have tried various methods but what I found works for me is using a small flat brush to help paint the bead. I use the chiseled edge of the brush to get the edge between the bead and the burled portion of the plate. Slowly working my way around the plate. I have a piece of paper towel handy to wipe any excess black and also a wipe out tool. It's a slow process, but it works. I will try to do a video going over this soon! I hope this helps a little!!

Hi Lise! I just found your channel, amazing! My grandmother was an amazing rosemaling-painter. She just passed away, sadly. Afterwards, I found myself drawn towards rosemaling, and after sitting here for an hour practicing my C's and S's, I finally got some nice strokes! Thanks for teaching <3 It warms my heart, and I feel like I'm honoring my grandmother doing this <3 Much love!<3

Lise, I am in awe. Your rosemaling painting on that beautiful plate is DIVINE. It literally brings tears to my eyes. I consider myself an artist. I haven't painted for many years now, but I've told my dh (dear husband of 49yrs) that I am going to start once again :). I am so happy to have your as a resource!!! Os medium que vc utilizou são indispensáveis? Dará muita diferença no resultado final da pintura se eu não utilizar esse mix de medium? Abraços do Brasil
Hi, You do not need to use these mediums if you do not want to. This is just the mix that I like to use. JoSonja herself often just uses water. Feel free to experiment!! Thank you for asking and happy painting!!

Hi, I actually had put all the information about the horse and the basecoat color in the description below. But to reiterate, it is 5 1/2 inches tall, it is from Mike Lusk at Lusk Scandia woodwork. Their website is in the description below The video. I base coated this with red earth. Again, all of the colors that I used, the brush, and the mediums that were used are included in the description below the video.
