Yvonne, I stumbled onto your wonderful videos last night and spent the whole night watching them. I have some experience in wire sculpting but you have gone miles beyond anything I ever imagined! I really enjoy what you do and I applaud your attitude. I will watch for your new vids with real pleasure. May I suggest something? I mean no criticism by this, just grab a mirror and a flashlight. Pass the light under your face so the light affects your iris. Watch closely how it expands and contracts. Note the definite edge to the colored part, the iris. The dark part, the pupil, is not just a dark spot, but rather like a window over a tiny chamber. I can just imagine the added dimension if you could create the illusion of depth into the pupil?

I love this. I tried painting aquarium marbles to practice and I used normal nail polish. It worked okay for a beginner, but it was nowhere near this quality. I bought some real cabochons and some day I will get gel polish and a lamp to try and replicate this kind of quality. It's just that I have too many crafting ideas and not enough finished products. Actually, the ear wraps I've been making is the most solid crafting adventure I've ever had (no one is buying them though, it sucks)

I have started practicing this and it was great to get a "reminder" video of your technique. It is in a way easier than it looks, but also harder, if that makes sense. By harder, I mean, it is quite messy and I'm still thinking of a good way to hold on to the smaller cabochons - perhaps some clay... Thanks, Yvonne!!!!!

When your tutorial came out for doing these, I began practicing with them. I have definitely improved through the 1 1/2 year I have been practicing. I use the decorative glass gems, and I have recently began experimenting with different polishes and the tinier ones, at the least to say, these are beautiful and I am very happy that I discovered your channel!

I really liked the under perspective, especially for the dragon eyes. There's such a difference from seeing the top of them and the bottom as you're working. I keep dropping mine when I try to look and then I get nail polish everywhere. LOL I'm not sure how useful the under would be for things like clay or leather, but for painting the dragon eyes, oh, yeah! I'm kind of interested in seeing more ways to put the dragon eyes in settings of some kind (either polymer clay or wire...as bracelets or pendants...or even small ones for earrings). I've been working primarily with 30 mm cabochons, but I'd really like to try the bigger ones one of these days. So if you're looking for ideas for future tutorials, that's my vote. :o)

Have you tried mixing Pearl ex and varnish or Polyurethane for batches of custom colors (opaque and translucent) for your eyes? It works great for creating dimensional "stones" out of cabochons! You can store it in old nail polish bottles so you have an instant brush handy, and don't forget a mini funnel to pour it back into the bottle (saves on big messes trying to get it in there with the tiny opening). Also it's cheaper than nail polish.

WATCH FACES! I Had an epiphany: I am going to try using an available glass watch face as my medium for the dragon's eye. It is set in a beautiful silver and rhinestone bracelet where the workings of the watch have been removed. I'll let you know how it works out . I wonder if it's less expensive if I plan on making oodles like you do. In fact if you have watch that doesn't work just take the workings out and you have the bracelet and medium for the dragon's eye bracelet all-in-one!! LOL *giddy giggle & jazz hands*. I'm off . . love the eye, sadly most of the colors you used I couldn't find at sally's/wally world/dollar stores/Kroger I am looking for some of those colors. I know I can't really be around the nail polishes, but I was running out of my other supply's that I normally use. so I thought I'd try those instead. Major headaches, but sometimes the outcome is worth it. Thanks for the video. I do like the views.

Wonderful as always! I meant to ask you: I used brass wire to make the jewlery I've been making so far and I noticed that on the bracelet I made myself, the gold has begun to wear off...or the brass rather, showing the silver base metal underneath. I was wondering if you could recommend a type of wire to use, gold in color, that will not do this? Thank you for all you do. God bless you and Randy.

I loved the "under" view of the cab as you worked. Watching it spin really adds an interesting perspective. Did you find it helpful to yourself as well to see the underside as you worked? I always thought "artyhands" were just part of the magic that is crafting. All the stains are an artisans wodes. hehe. I just use some "Lava" soap and it's all gone. Love that stuff! This was a great vid, Von!
@backtoearthcreations

Lava soap is spectacular!!! The under view doesn't really help so much as it is just neat to see; the colors don't reflect well on the under view, so I still find myself flipping the eye over to see the progress :p

Hello! I love your videos! I was wondering if you could tell me how you keep your nail polish (I guess you'd call it) thin? When you do the pupil, the paint gets pulled along with the needle very easily. When I try it, my nail polish has already started to dry, even if I have just laid the paint down. Do you use some type of additive to keep your polish in a workable state a little longer? I have looked for some type of a thinner, but I haven't really found much. I also have lots of nail polish that has thickened a bit over time but I would still like to use. Lastly, do you have any tips on where to find good deals on nail polish? It's definitely not the cheapest paint out there. Again, love your videos! Thank you!

Your tutorials are very easy to follow and enjoyable to watch. I just started trying to do dragon eyes back this past Monday. I tried using my acrylic paints at first to avoid the strong odor of nail polish. Some of my initial effects were good, but as the paint layered, it became harder to scratch it because the paint was too stretchy. I switched over to nail polish and am having a better time, despite the fumes. I have also started wearing a nitrile glove over my left hand to avoid getting nail polish on my fingers as I hold my glass. I don't know if this will come up, but I am going to try to post a picture of my first completed eye using nail polish. imgur.com/ylq0ryH
