I think this painting is exceptional and the amount of work you put in it, to me, doesn't need anything else, it stands strong on its own and the viewer is focused on the brilliant sky and sunset and that is all you need, personally speaking. You are an excellent tutor.

I'm amazed at how you know which colours to mix at the beginning , it's not how I would start a painting, but it magically comes together after a while. I find all the colours you mix a little confusing at times but you really know what you're doing. I just wish I had your eyes to see the subtle tones you mix. Thank you, your a talented teacher.

Your timing is impeccable -- I've been working on sunsets for about two weeks now! We saw some gorgeous skies after the northern CA fires and my dad and stepmom got some incredible pictures from their home at 5000 feet of a sunset with fog blanketing the valley below. So relieved to see your video, it’s has been about 2 years since I’ve painted and I have been second and third guessing myself that I should have used oils rather than acrylic, since the acrylics are drying too fast. I am painting the pyramids at Teotihuacan on 3x 4 canvas for a Christmas gift. Your instructions about the layers and I see how you did this beautiful sky painting gives me a lot of encouragement. My Mom and I watched 100's of sunsets together so when I started painting, sunsets were like the first thing I tried to master. I've painted many and never feel like I know exactly where I'm going when painting one and I feel that is because when watching a sunset it is changing so fast and your emotions along with it that you just keep working it until you decide it is done. The painting came together when you darkened up the turquiose on the left...it brought the eye right up to the top cloud and made you stay there...the light turquiose hints in the heavens in the upper right made the mystery complete for me:))) it didn’t matter what you did after that....all the colors play together and pop when the values line up....learning how to see these values and use them is the adventure.

Chuck I've been painting for 40 years now and you caught my attention because I identify with your struggle and desire to improve your work. To me painting is an ever evolving adventure and that's what makes it wonderful and exciting. You're work is amazing and I like how you think out loud as you share with the audience in real time. Very real experience for the beginners in the audience, so different than some of the others who use the same boring techniques and give the impression that it's easy. It's great to see tutorials like this for those of us who chose to paint with acrylics. I've found the technique is kind of a mix between oils and watercolors. Of course not only that but, I think it's a good approximation. Thanks for doing this for those who are not yet proficient or are just curious about the process. Personally I use acrylics in part, due to some health issues. When I'm done though, the result is indistinguishable from oils. If that's the result you're after then you have to use a good amount of varnish due to the sort of matte finish of acrylics.
