Painting a toy replica M1911 Tutorial 

Thanks dude. I'm thinking of painting another one of these but painting wooden or black grips. I recently bought a Denix Replica of the M1911 and man, those things are top tier replicas. They cost $100 USD or more though.

Thanks for watching and I'm glad you found it helpful. I'm trying to get back into making RU-vid videos but focusing on prop making, cosplay and budget short films. Current project is an AK-47 replica made from MDF, EVA Foam, Acrylic plastic and PVC pipe. Might be a while before it's completed and uploaded to RU-vid as I'm also working during the week.

Communism and peace For the cost it's pretty sturdy. Far better than like a $2 shop bb gun. And put it this way, I'd rather throw this one around than my $100 Glock replica.

I did this with Orange Tape at Armageddon Expo Wellington last year or the year before.

Most likely based off the WWII or Cold War era M1911 or M1911A1. I have an airsoft replica of the M1911A1 now, it looks exactly as you describe. I'm working on making a custom wooden grip for it, practicing making one for the toy in the video first, since so many people complained about white grips. Then I'm just gonna paint those old white grips black to match my Denix replica M1911A1 which is non-firing but full metal.

GrandTheftGaming I chose to because of the texture that's on there, it didn't really look like wood to me. But I've since seen replicas with wooden grips and the same texture so next time I would change it. Also white looks more modern, I got it from Payday 2.

My next gun, a nerf repaint is going to have a wooden handle texture and leather wrap. I may make a separate video for how I paint it to look like wood, it's very easy.

Sorry, I never replied. The Revolver video was officially canceled when Flint of Backyard Blasters so no longer able to sell these toy guns on his website and I could no longer get them shipped to New Zealand. I have moved on to other projects since, mainly art-related instead of prop making as making props was far too time-consuming and expensive to maintain.

I'm considering making a second one but to replicate a modern M1911 A1, much like the Colt Government. But I would go for black grips blued slide and probably minimalist silver scrapes.

You can if you like, however most of the internal areas aren't seen and will scrape against other surfaces anyway. I just held the slide back and sprayed only visible areas. Do what works for you.

Yeah, I think highlighting all the edges just makes it look cartoony. I'll have to repaint it again sometime because some of the paint is starting to wear off after 4 years and I'd prefer to make it match either my Denix or Tokyo Marui (Airsoft) M1911A1.

Just search "builders bog" on Google. Its a sand-able, hard setting solution.

Yes, as long as it is sanded well as this is what makes the paint stick and not peel off and how the end result is smooth. Also would recommend a painted clear coat at the end and consider painting with a sponge brush to avoid obvious brush strokes.

the Randomiser Yes, though it was never very good to shoot with. The rubber bullets don't go as far as Nerf blasters or other toy guns.

Yeah I remember most of them. What are you looking for in particular? Spray paint, acrylic paints, building bog(the pink sealing stuff) or something else?

@@vmw410 You can use anyspray paints you want for colours. But the highest quality I've found are professional ones, like Automotive body paints. Brands I used in this video Rustoleum, Ironlak and some artsy one from an Art supply store. Also make sure you base coat with Primer that says somewhere on the can that it sticks to plastic. Also sanding is really important to make the paint stick to plastic. Glossy plastic HATES spray paint and it will definitely bubble up if you don't sand or if you coat it too thick. Lastly I seal the paint with Gloss or Matte clear coat paint. I use Crystal Kote and the Ironlak Gloss clear coat.

I know this comment is a year old, sorry I missed it. Sounds like the paint went on too thick, you need to do light dustings, and if you miss a spot on the first pass just wait until it dries and try from a different angle for the second coat. I made this mistake all the time and basically, you just have to take your time with it. Also can't express enough how crucial proper sanding and prep is when painting ANYTHING.

Like I get the whole, "Magazine feeds the bullets into the gun where a clip requires a mechanism in the gun to load the bullets" but most people don't care so I use whatever term I feel like.

I bought them from the same website, Backyard Blasters and the link is in the description. I noticed recently he no longer sells the holster, I now buy my holsters online from Trade Me (NZ) and I'm sure you can find them on Ebay. Just search "Drop leg holster"

No worries.

It has a few different names. "Body filler" in the automotive industry. It's used by carpenters to seal holes as well. Can find it in most hardware stores.

@@kalecardenas9645 You're very right, I should have included a disclaimer at the end warning people on how to use them in films SAFELY without causing any panic.

Nicholas Dunn. There would be no point in painting the entire gun to look real for use in my short film if at the very end I painted the end red. For use at cosplay conventions or other public use people use orange or red tape in a single stripe over the end, easily removable for photo shoots.

Thanks, btw I'm working on building a PC so I can upload more. I've had a long enough hiatus so it's about time I start uploading my gameplay and my current Nerf repaint project.

If you paint outdoors or in a well ventilated area then yes. You may get paint on your hands but it can be washed off. Mask is mainly for indoors, even with a vacuum chamber/booth to suck up fumes. It's actually made me sick painting indoors, the fumes are toxic.

@@Bountyhopper That's better than my setup. The place where I was studying had a vacuum booth setup for spray painting. But at home I just painted outside on cardboard and it depended on the weather. I stopped doing spray painting and I hand brush everything now.
