This shows how I stripped and painted an HO scale NJ Custom brass caboose. My first one.
I have other kit builds on my channel. Please subscribe and check them out.

Thanks for sharing Greg. Great looking end results on your Brass Caboose. One question; Do you have your vac system hooked up as you had shown for first spraying with a larger filter used for use in spray painting as well Thanks for sharing

Thanks, Ed. No, my spray booth has an exhaust fan and ducting behind the filter. That's an old booth I built decades ago.

Great video Greg! Loved it! So after the experience, would you bother sandblasting next time before priming?
@CassidysWorkshop
@CassidysWorkshop 2 года назад
Thanks, Darryl. Probably not, I don't think I needed to. But I have had friends use it to remove some of the foam grunge that can stick to stored brass pieces. Seems to work well for that.

It looks really nice. What colors did you mix for the WM red?
@CassidysWorkshop
@CassidysWorkshop 2 года назад
Thanks, Roger. For the 1st coat, I used 50% TCP Tuscan Red (# 053) and 50% TCP Reading Freight Car Red (# 237) with 40% TCP thinner. For the 2nd coat, I added 40% of the Tuscan Red and 20% thinner to what I still had.

Greg, I'm gonna be doing up the SAME WM caboose, in brass, BUT I'm going the older route with the WM Herald paint scheme, what "red" would go fo that one? as its a different red, and I BELIEVE it be "Caboose Red" for that era WM caboose!
@CassidysWorkshop
@CassidysWorkshop Год назад
Yes, the ones with the Herald logo were caboose red, or Dulux Red as WM called it according to Dwight Jones' great book. The roofs, frames, and trucks were black. I think if you have other Herald cabeese in your fleet you should match those, but if not I'd find caboose red in your favorite paint to work with.

Did you use lacquer based primer or acrylic? I have 2 airbrushes - 1 Badger Anthem 155 I use for acrylic paint and the HF Chinese one I use for lacquer based paint. Cheers from eastern TN

It's a Vallejo Acrylic primer in Grey, with a bit of Vallejo acrylic thinner added. Cheers and thanks for watching.

one thing to note, You need to bake the Tru-color paint when being put on any brass model. As it will come off from your finger oils in about 6 months.

Thanks for that tip. I didn't do that, but this is sitting on a display shelf so it won't get any handling. But if I do paint one to run I'll remember that. Thanks.

Or seal it with an appropriate clear laquer like K 2 which also protects the decals against UV light. Always wonder what videos were loaded up showing incompetence.

@@steffenrosmus9177 won't do anything if it isn't baked on.
