Pimp My Tinnie - Part 2
This video is a bit of fun -- more of a video blog than a tutorial. In it I paint the cowling from the Green Machine and add a few decals to it. My original plan was to Vinyl wrap it but a few tests showed it wasn't going to give the look I was going for so I ended up pulling out the rattle cans again.

I'm loving the neon green spray paint and the spray painted 150 on the side. I would have never known that it was only a 50hp.

I know, that 150 was so convincing. I should have put it straight on eBay. ;)

Go for it! Not only do you get to make it distinctively yours, it much less likely to get stolen once it doesn't look factory. ;)

Hey Rob, a good primer makes a huge difference, as does the clear coat. Glad to hear you are happy with the results! :)

Hi Stu, I'm a longtime follower and love your channel - best outboard advice on RU-vid by far! :-) Your videos have helped me out many times! I'm posting here because if you ever get a chance, I would love a video on painting an outboard lower unit. Mine could use a paint job and I'm clueless as to which technique and type of paint / primer to use to get lasting results. If you ever get an outboard in the shop that needs a lower unit paint job, please share some wisdom! Keep up the great work, it is greatly appreciated! Cheers, Lasse

+Lasse Hi mate, glad you've been enjoying the channel. Paul and I are painting his lower unit at the moment. Put a picture on the DangarStu Instagram account for you. Can post a picture of the primer for you too.

Morning Stu, I'll check the linkages when I get on it again, in the mean time, I'm waiting on a new water pump kit coming, I dropped the gearbox off after noticing a lack of water from the tell tail and found the whole water pump is shot.
@DangarMarine
@DangarMarine 7 лет назад
Hey Darren, glad you spotted the pump was shot, always good to get that replaced before any overheat occurs!

With the diagonal cutters..... clean the concave part with acetone.... then fill the concave part with the rtv..liquid .gasket maker...smooth out... let dry hard overnight.... then get a razor... split down the center of the diagonal cutting pliers..... so they open and close .... when u cut with them next time they will catch the pieces and keep them from flying when u cut with them.... neat trick.....

Another fun video. Ever think about doing a video of the top 25 nautical terms. Your reference to a sponson in one of you knot videos made me think of this. Background: I was on a friend's sailboat and he asked me for a "sheet." I had no idea what he meant. Just a thought.
@DangarMarine

+David Holmes Hey David, nautical terms is a good idea. The nice thing about it is it would be a chance to get out on the water again and film outside. :)

hey Stu. I'm looking to remove old vinyl letter from my hull. what is your recommendation for getting vinyl off gelcoat? would the heat gun be too aggressive? as of now, I'm just using a plastic paint scraper and elbow grease.

top video mate. where do you get the rubber seal for the cowl.
@DangarMarine
@DangarMarine 7 лет назад
Pretty much the only place you can get them is a dealer for your brand of outboard.

The perfect paintjob, when painting Oranges and the Green Machine, lol. What Outboard Mfgs charge for the Stickers perfectly exemplifies the entire industry. They are colluding to fix artificially high prices. Why arent they called on it? The ONE thing Govt should be doing, lol. I can get a blueprinted 350 chevy for half the price of an outboard, lol.

Hi Stu, I've got a 9.9 Suzuki 2 stroke that has been submerged, before this it was a great starter and runner, but now it's hard to start and it'll only run for a minute or so before cutting out. I've cleaned it, new plugs, new fuel and filter etc, I've even put a brand new carb on it (a small fortune). I've tested the coil and I've got a good spark. Could you please tell me what to try next? Either that or I'm on the next plane, engine in hand and I'm dropping it off at your door😁😁😁😁 Thanks in advance pal👍👍👍
@DangarMarine
@DangarMarine 7 лет назад
Hmmm, given that you've put a brand new carb on I would have expected it to be running pretty well. Did the reed valves behind the carburettor look to be clean and sealing well (no light visible around them). Bad reed valves will cause hard to start every time.

Stu, just a quick update on this 9.9 Suzuki , I removed the reed valves and found someone had been there before and fastened one of the plates upside down an jammed one bank of valves shut😐, so I put everything back together and the engine starts no bother now😁but, it only runs for a couple of seconds and dies😕. Any ideas matey ?
@DangarMarine
@DangarMarine 7 лет назад
Hmmm, interesting that they had been messed with. Did all the valves good in good condition when you turned the plate around? Also, are all your linkages good now the carb is back on, ie. choke is completely open when not activated?

That black and green looks like shit with the gray Yamaha. Your soldering iron and your batt charger may have green paint on it after that benchtop spraydown. Lol

I think you could try a heat gun if it has an adjustable heat. Start really, really low and see if you can soften the glue a bit without hurting the gel coat. If not, you could try a bit of car paint grease and wash remover to help dissolve the glue.
