Painting my Warhammer 40k Black Templar Space Marine Conversion with a Sponge. Trying to work off my mistake and seeing if it worked out in the end.
This was going to be a Lieutenant, but I put him on a wrong base.....Kill Team now maybe ?

Thanks! 😀 Definitely will be doing another black armor( probably Raven Guard) to match the original idea.

Finally a video on how to paint the dreaded and faithful Black Templars! This was a pleasure to watch and I look forward to applying what I learned here to my beloved Minis.

Black is such a tricky color, but I also can't help but love how interesting it is, the fact that you can take it in so many directions. Glad to hear you enjoyed it :D

@AnotherDayMiniatures I'm a first timer to warhammer and my first pick was Black Templar. 😅 I think I did pretty good painting them? 😂

What did you do differently for that original black armor that you wanted to paint? Curious to know how you got that darker look previously. They both look great!

Thanks ! The main difference was not going so far into the white and afterwards using streaking grime for panzer grey all over the mini.

He looks fantastic! I’m constantly on the hunt for new ways to paint black, as my main army is the 30K Raven Guard with some Mechanicum allies. I really like the look you’ve achieved on this model, but not just the armour- the whole thing is great. I also really appreciate your decision to not paint the gun casing red. My first 40K army was a combined Grey Knights and Deathwatch Inquisition force, and since I was new to painting, I tried to make it look just like the Codex art. Other than not yet knowing that I was supposed to thin my paints, resulting in some horribly chunky paint jobs, the Deathwatch’s red weapons just looked stupid. I don’t like them on 40K Dark Angels, either- I think that Bolters look best in black and gunmetal/silver as a more mass-produced Imperium standard issue. Anyway- thanks for the great video, and I’m looking forward to trying out your “recipe” for black. 👍🏻

Thanks 😄I actually plan on doing some 30k marines later as well. Love those new models. Getting a lot of nice beaky helmets in plastic has also been fantastic for making some Raven Guard. Ye, following official art can be a double edged sword.

For the black on the shoulder, wouldn't it be easier to put masking tape on the raised templar cross, before painting the shoulder in white ? This way you would also keep the highlight done earlier...

Honestly cutting something like that out and making sure it stayed on. That would definitely take way more time for me than painting anything on this model. But if you have a lot of experience with it, I definitely could see that working really well!

@@AnotherDayMiniaturesi ask because that’s something that I do on the wheels of my Outriders bikes, but on the other hand it’s only to separate the metal part for the disk/wheel and the supposedly more rubbery tyre, getting the desired effect with the chaos black spray can

Maaaaaan. I love your paint style so much! Any chance of you doing a medium grey marine (not blue grey like Wolves)? I’m starting a kitbash Carcharodon army and would love the help!

Thanks mate 🙂. Currently doing a Mortifactor, but I'll definitely add them on the list. Carcharodons are awesome, always wanted to give them a try. I'll try and make a short on them next week, but no promises. Were you thinking of doing them in the warmer tones like the actual shark 🦈 ?

@@AnotherDayMiniatures it’s actually REALLY nice to see a content creator post the stuff that *isnt* necessarily super clean and polished. Helps set reasonable expectations for us normies.

Hello, this is incredible and exactly what I'm looking for for my own BT (I'm pretty new at warhammer). I'm sure you already answer that a thousand time but do you have the list of color references you use for the all painted model?
@AnotherDayMiniatures
@AnotherDayMiniatures 6 месяцев назад
Hi! Thank you for the kind words. I don't have a specific list, I usually end up mixing colors between each other to get the colors I need. Often doing it with different paints and just eyeing it. I mainly use Vallejo and AK interactive, however I bought so many brands over the years I tend to pull out some random stuff for each paint job.

Which brushes do you use? The brush you used to highlight the loincloth seemed to create a perfect result

Thank you. They are Black Velvet size 4,2 and 0. They are made for watercolor but I just happen to enjoy their texture.

Actually currently working on a Mortifactors miniature. However it's less about sponging as I start with a near white primer instead of working off black primer.
@thomasleon9550

might be a dumb question, but what kind of sponges do you use ? really wanna try this technique out
@AnotherDayMiniatures
@AnotherDayMiniatures 11 месяцев назад
Not at all, honestly the most common question I get. It makes sense why too, they come in a ton of verity. It's called a Synthetic Painting Art Sponge, they come in circular donut shapes ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lIDZ4mIqehs.html ) I show what it looks like 3 seconds into that video, but its more yellow in real life ( green screen stuff). They tend to be a little firm, as I find softer ones much harder to use. The reverse tweezers also really help as you're able to use smaller sponge sizes and get a firmer grip on them. Hope this helps a bit.

Good job with the mini and the video. What type of brush did you use.
@AnotherDayMiniatures
@AnotherDayMiniatures 11 месяцев назад
Thanks! It's Silver Brush Limited - Black Velvet. I honestly wouldn't really recommend them as they are designed for water color and are very soft. I just happen to enjoy a really soft brush. Most people tend to gravitate towards stiffer brushes like the Series 7.
@jordanbroyles3549
@jordanbroyles3549 11 месяцев назад
@AnotherDayMiniatures thanks I currently use a lot of synthetic brushes with just a couple of kolinsky sable brushes for special models. I wouldn't mind trying them though, just to see if I like them.
@AnotherDayMiniatures
@AnotherDayMiniatures 11 месяцев назад
@@jordanbroyles3549 This is a mixture of synthetic and squirrel hairs. It's an interesting mix for sure. I personally use size 4 and size 2 to do everything. I have a size 0 but don't see much use for it. I have a second size 4 that for some reason didn't have a proper tip, almost like it was cut. So they definitely have some mixed quality control.
