I paint and kitbash various minis - sometimes well, and sometimes quick. I work mainly on tabletop miniatures for Warhammer 40k, but I also engage in other games like Kill Team, Necromunda, and Age of Sigmar. I might even explore other games, hobbies(3D printing), and crafts as well.
Hope you find something you enjoy and have a great day! :)
if a full on fleet of ork and tyranid hybrid happened....its gonna be hell trying to fight something that can be recreated as long as 1 member of the species is alive, have reality warping powers, and be damn near impossible to exterminate due to ork spores..... good damn luck
From what I've read, it seems Genestealers do indeed hijack the spore reproduction, so you're spot on there. I find it even more interesting that Orks don't use that strategically, but a Tyranid patriarch would be smart enough to understand its power as a weapon. Officially, in the lore, the Tyranids have won the war in the Octarius sector against the Orks, so maybe we will see something interesting come out of that.
@@AnotherDayMiniatures does this mean, that if a single orc and tyranid hybrid survived... it could use its spores to make an infinite biomass farm that can multiply itself for eons?
@@objectiveice573 Interesting question. Orks already use their spores for farming (squigs, grots, etc.). Tyranids could farm them, but their methods of extracting biomass are much faster and more efficient. My knowledge is quite limited, so don't take any of this as concrete; however, as a survival mechanism, I think Ork-Genestealer spores could indeed thrive on a planet while going undetected and building up a force. The chances of them thriving and not being detected are however quite slim I would imagine.
There's no such thing as "infinite biomass", because biomass is simply the total amount of living and decayed organic matter on a planet. You can't extract more from a planet than was already present on it from the start, since that would just be conjuring up matter from nothing. Tyranids trying to farm a planet for biomass would just be a far slower and less efficient method than simply stripping the planet clean from air to bedrock, and sucking up the oceans and part of the molten core.
The green was primarily achieved by mixing AK Deep Brown and black with AK Greenish Brown. Then, I gradually added pure Greenish Brown. After that, I mixed it with AK Volcanic Yellow. The final highlight was created by adding a bit of white. For the flesh tones, I used Bugman's Glow and white. Layering them on top of different base tones is what gave each one a unique appearance.
Streaking grime will definitely be anyones fan for Skaven. I love how that one model you demonstrated on turned out. Funny enough I actually went this same route with Slaves to Darkness. I knew I wanted to play the army but just wasnt sure if I was going to enjoy painting them so I ended up getting their Underworlds warband that also was on sale for $30, so an even better option as compared to a single model. I think a positive spin you can could have mentioned was that if you didnt end up liking the painting results of the warband you at least had a warband to play Underworlds with whether as someone familiar with the game or a noob who may get into it someday haha
Streking grime is magic when it comes to models with a lot of "mess" to them. That SoD box had so many awesome models, I tried grabbing it a while back but it was sold out in my local store. That's actually a great point, didn't think of it at the time but you're spot on with the warband thing.
As someone who was on the fence about getting the Skaventide box, I’m very happy this video was recommended to me as it has just given me a cheaper way to try paint some rats for a lot cheaper 👍
I think a really cool thing about skaven as an army project is that you can have consistent overall color choices but vary up units quite a bit with different colors. They're not very uniform, so you can easily justify them having slightly different green/yellow stained robes for pestilens, for instance. That kind of built in-variability lets you experiment quite a bit but still field test models, and gives you a huge safety net as a new painter. If the end result looks kind of grungy and dirty, its probably table-top ready. Had a similar experience with my worn-down trencher krieg army that I'm assembling. Grunge forgives a lot.
Exactly! That's one of the main reasons I love Death Guard so much. They're another one of those armies where you can go absolutely wild, and any mistake just turns into "weathering" 😄
These are great I imagine it was an impossible choice on what color to paint that armor but ultimately, that gray doesn’t distract and looks great! Good job.
You're spot on there! I considered going with something more saturated, but I knew it would imply a specific chapter regardless of which color I picked.
Most of the time, genestealers only use orks as a stopgap measure to keep going. Like a poster below said, orks can tell when there's something off. Because of that, the only genestealer infestations of orks tend to be the ones that happen in remote areas. Usually that will concern feral ork tribes. On top of that, as early as one of the Ciaphas Cain novels there was indication that genestealers could also infect the tau, when Cain recognized infection symptoms in two fire warriors. That may not necessarily have been canon, but it became canon in the 7th edition GS Cults codex: "At one point, a lone Genestealer from Hive Fleet Gorgon reached Ksi’m’yen. The creature was captured by the planet’s Earth caste scientists and subjected to extensive analysis, resulting in a lowly worker being implanted with a measure of germ-seed. The grotesque anatomies that sprung up in the laboratories were seen as curious rather than blasphemous by the Earth caste, for the Tau approach to alien life forms is founded on acceptance and tolerance. When the research divisions experienced a bloody schism twenty years later, the Fire caste was called in, only to find many subterranean research facilities overrun. Ksi’m’yen is consumed by war, and quarantined for almost ten years before the eccentric Ethereal Aun’ghol declared it productive and clean."
really enjoyed this however i would avoid making tutorials that just point at brand dependent choices, I notice you went ProAcryl to AKinteractive, unfortunately, AK interactive doesnt exist where I live and buying it is a nightmare. i can do color comparison but when it points as brand-related issues i tend to fall off the tutorial at that spot. I would say be a bit more paint agnostic or share a few brands or options like varnishing.
Glad you enjoyed it. My aim was to share my personal observations and experiences with the different paints, rather than endorsing any specifically. I mentioned ProAcryl and AK to explain the different effects that I noticed with them. If you're after a similar finish to AK both Vallejo and Citadel offer something very close. Cheers!
these look amazing but I could be wrong with this but doesnt skaven tide not have an Clan Pestilens skaven in it? I think its mostly Moulder? obviously you can paint them as whatever clan you want but the design of the plague monks are not being updated right? Moulder is probably my least favorite design out of the 4 great clans.
Yeah you're spot on, they're mostly moulder but I plan on going with a pestilence theme for them. I think plague monks are coming very soon, similar to what we saw with the large amount of kits being relased for the kruleboyz. These plague monks confirm they made the core design for them, now just the question of when.
Awesome video. The underworlds teams make a great test case to see if you should dive into a new army. This was the first video of your I had seen and now I am enjoying checking out the back catalog. Subscribed!
Thank you! Yeah, they are also a great break from painting armies and usually have some incredible sculpts. Hope some of the other videos will be enjoyable :)
Those all turned out amazing. Even though my painting is nowhere near your level, I am definitely learning looks of helpful tips and cool products to use. Thanks for sharing!!
Awesome work mate! All the schemes turned out fantastic and the visible texture and linework is a really nice effect on these grotty little fellows. Definitely sells the rancid/tarnished look.
They make a Gorilla Glue with a dropper and a brush. I've found the brush very useful for assembly. I found it at my local Walmart for much cheaper than Tamiya. Hopefully it helps in your future kitbashes
