You’ve got a great personality and you seem like a pro already. Thanks for your painting tips and secrets, I’m not sure if you want to do product reviews but you’d be really good at it. This is Alan, GREETINGS from Riverside in Southern California.
Wow! What amazing feedback and wonderful comments! Thank you so much! I’m glad that you’re enjoying the channel and yes perhaps product review could be a great future venture, would definitely entertain the idea! Thanks again Alan! 🙏🏻
I used a paint stripping wheel, I started off on my 18v drill and is was better than the detail sander, But then I used My 240v(Aussie) electric Variable speed Hammer drill and omg, cut the stripping time down by heaps, I rolled on my primer and used Rattle cans for hard spots, Great job and thanks for sharing
thank you so much for this video, I too am doing a DIY shall we say Poor woman's Food truck!! as we speak... thank you for some tips that i actually hope to benefit from. Yes the idea of dropping 7500$ on the wrap -was not going to happen for me at this juncture. I hope to find your finished food truck video in the next few minutes- the food /service/concept/and dedication i believe will pay off for us both!!!! all the best, SAK
Thank you so much for the great feedback! That’s awesome congratulations! And yes i 100% agree that it’ll pay off, being in a financial disadvantage shouldn’t stop us from chasing our dreams! I wish you the best of luck!
Hi I am new to your channel, I must tell you I love your journey with your trailer. How is your paint holding up a year later. Great job , it’s great you are an inspiration to those that don’t have much money. You can do anything if you put your mind to it.
Thank you so much for subscribing! And thank you for the awesome feedback! The paint job is holding up amazingly - especially with the drastic weather we have in Florida! Anything is possible if you truly believe 🙏🏻
Good job. If you ever do another do yourself a favor and get a pack of 5 sheets 3M 400 grit wet/dry paper and hand wet sand it. Save yourself some time and money and it will do a better job. A 180 grit scratch is hard to cover with paint. Of course house paint is more forgiving than automotive paint
Great video, exactly what I was looking for. I'm about to do the same project, I just had some questions 1. Would it make sense to sand and then wash it, rather than wash it first since you have to clean off the residue anyway? 2. Could you use the electric sprayer to apply the primer? It seemed like it covered better. Any tips on thinning the paint for the spray gun?
Thank you so much for the awesome feedback! You’re probably right in that perhaps it could just be sanded first and then washed (I just chose to wash down before and after to be thorough). And yes you’re also probably right about the primer, however I wasn’t sure how well I’d be able to clean the sprayer so just decided to use cans. But you’re absolutely right I’m sure it could be done that way!
As for thinning the paint - I kept adding water to the mixture until it sprayed out of the gun cleanly and consistently. Honestly it didn’t take much thinning out at all
Am from Kenya and I would like to know how I can do all the welding building the food truck from scratch which metal can I use to cover the outside of the food trailer,,,metal that can me screwed
Absolutely! Check out our Instagram page (Poor Man’s Food Truck) you’ll see updated pics with our logo applied, which we also did ourselves! Thank you for your support! 🙏🏻
Great question! Yes I used some universal lube as it says in instructions to do so before first use. I added a tiny amount of water to make it a little thinner, maybe no more than half a quart just so it would flow through the gun a little easier. I also didn’t want it to run once applied so tried to keep as thick as possible. Hope this helps!
Damn....didnt think it would look good at all. But that turned out great! I am motivated now! Paint and wrap are too expensive for a trailer just to drag scuba equipment around......i would rather put my money into high end diving equipment....not trailer coating!
Negative - it’s a HD exterior paint rated for aluminum. Been there for a few months now and still looks great even after taking a beating from the weather
We just did our truck last week. I decided to paint then vinyl stickers for the same reasons..sanding, taping, priming then painting a short school bus was not fun 😑. Send me your email, I will show you our progress. Good luck brother.
That’s awesome man! Haha yes I can imagine it was tough work especially having to navigate all the windows etc! Yes please do I’d love to see them! Send over to poormansfoodtruck@gmail.com Thank you sir good luck to you also!

That’s a great question, unfortunately I do not know anything at all about welding. I would reach out to local professionals that may be able to give you solid advice for your project!
