Here he is, Bruce 2.0!
We're so happy with how he's turned out, and for less than £125 too which seems crazy in comparison to the £2,000+ price tag of a professional re-spray.

Thanks again. Yeah man, the price for a professional spray is mad, or even raptor paint too in comparison! I think you can raptor spray as a middle ground price. Suuuuper hard wearing stuff but it's all about budget really.

@@TheWoodlandNomad yes it would cost a small fortune otherwise and you've got the satisfaction of doing it yourselves! We're just about finished painting our van with the same paint manufacturer although ours is light grey gloss. Very satisfying! 👍😁

Fantastic job!!! This is exactly the colour scheme (and paint products) I had in mind for my Mk6 minibus conversion I'm currently working on. We think so. He blends in so much now compared to when he was white. He stands out in cities against the grey though haha.

Great job. I usually paint matt black upto the first indent at the bottom and around the wheel arches where they curve. Hope your doing well in this present clime. :)

We actually planned on doing this but had to get welding done so didn't spend too much energy on the lower edges. Now he's all welded up we'll need to give him a touch up soon 😁 🎨

Brilliant job very well done... Love the colours too... I'll be doing my just as yours... One question if I may,,, painting the roof box did you sand it first or apply a primer, I ask because I have two grey boxes to do on mine and I don't want them to peel at all later on. Cheers..

Thank you Tony! Yeah we always had dark green in our minds from the beginning. We didn't prepare the roof box at all, no. It's a rough plastic material so we took our chances, not had any flaking happening yet and it's survived a Scottish summer or rain, sun, rain and more rain so I think it should hold. Might depend on your box material but this paint does well to cover most surfaces! Hope that helps.

Bruce looks amazing 😍😍 I saw in another comment that you ordered 2 x 2.5 litre cans, was 1 can of each colour enough to paint the whole van? We have a Fiat Scudo so slightly smaller. Really enjoyed watching, looking forward to seeing more of your adventures 👍

Hey Dean 😁 Yeah that's all we needed. It's was close though because of the roof rack and box. Having a smaller van without the roof gear would easily be covered twice by the 5L. You'd have leftovers to top up any scratches that happen in years to come too ☺

First time we sent the logbook off they sent it back unchanged which was a nightmsre but we got it listed as green eventually 😝 shame we can't have it listed as a camper too!

I photographed the cuplrets number plates so they had no choice but to come forward once it ended up all over social media. They came forward and a couple of them came out to repair the huts with the team that maintain the site 😁 was delighted as they will have learned their lesson and will now know how much effort is involved ☺ Kind of you to offer assistance ♥

It's held really well!! No flaking whatsoever mate 👍 does leave a textured finish with the roller, worth keeping in mind.

We taped them off and just used a brush. No, not had any issue with them.

Thank you, I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that. I would suspect it's resistant to most liquids as it is used in the army for painting trucks and jeeps. Your best bet is messaging a supplier on ebay or similar to see if they have the answer, maybe?

I did mate. It's super easy. Your V5 logbook has a section in it to submit vehicle changes. Simply write in that the colour is different in the specific section of the logbook and post it to them. You don't need to supply evidence or anything. Tell your insurance company too.

Did the black go streaky at all was there much orange peel on the paint?

The black was a little streaky. In hindsight we should have thinned it a little as we painted on such a warm day it was drying super fast! Orange peel? The only pealing that happened was on the roofbox which is made out of a textured plastic and we didn't expect a good finish anyway. Hope that helps.

We didn't actually use any thinner. We maybe should have used it on the black as it seemed a little thicker when rollering it on.

Never thinned it, no. It's pretty thick but had no trouble rollering it on. In hindsight we maybe would have thinned the black as it dried a little too quickly in the sun and streaked a little. If it was cooler it would have been fine.

Held upon fine mate. Don't get me wrong it got some minor scratches on it over the next couple years but I did used to drive it between gorse bushes and all over the place. I'm painting my new van the exact same way so obviously confident enough with its finish.

They're very reliable machines. Great engines on them. The model I had has few common faults, the fuel pump is one but the engine and gearbox are great. The next model up isn't as reliable from what I've heard. But your big issue with all transit vans is the rust. They're awful for it. The steps in the cab, the sills, wheel arches, chassis and suspension mounting points are all bad spots for it. You can certainly find some in good shape but be sure to check carefully. I've spent 1000s on welding transits. And don't be fooled by underseal, people use it to hides rust, be sure to knock about on the underside as you might find that it's as strong as cornflakes behind the underseal 🙃

Yeah know about the rust on the their as bad as all VW vans, but I do repairs on car and van bodywork for people so that's not an issue it's the engine and gearbox is the main concern, I lived in an old transit many moons ago up in the Highlands of Scotland for 2 years, unfortunately it wasn't insulated but survived two Scottish winters in it, so van Dwelling isn't new to me, its just this time ill do it properly Lol, once again thanks for the information you stay safe and well my friend

I've been told the box on the '05 model is sound and the engine usually sees 200-400k+. My mechanic swears by their engines, he also swore alot when he welded it 🙃

Ebay mate, just search vehicle military paint. The rollers I used where just 4" foam rollers, can get them really cheap 😁

Hey Jack, 7.5L in total. We used one black 2.5l and two nato green 2.5l tins in the end.

We used it straight from the tin, worked fine. The black dried a little too fast in the summer heat though.
