The moment weve all been waiting for is finally here! Its finally finished! From the cat yellow paint, to the burnt bronze cerakote. From the blue felpro gaskets, to the polished steel bolts and fuel lines. I couldnt be happier with how this engine turned out! I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed filming it. It's been a very time consuming project, but looking at the finished product ad say it was worth every second!

Dude, you have the patience and determination of a saint. I love the end results of fine detailed paint work like this, but despise the hours and hours of tedious prep work. The quality of your work in front of the camera, behind the camera and at the computer, are second to none. Your videos are works of art, and you have mechanical skills to match. You deserve 1 million subs.

I cant think of a nice enough way to say thank you! I cant describe how much it means to me to have someone say something like that about something I made!

I agree that bronze cerakote looks KILLER , defiantly got the gear turning for the next project , love what you can do in the garage , don't need a million dollar shop to get things done , reality for us do it your selfers keep it going

For real. I didnt until I tried to dress up a bobber I have and I spent days on just spot cleaning the little nooks and crannies

Working on doing this to my 5.9 as well as part of a partial rebuild. It was amazing how long it took me to get all of the oil and gunk off the engine to get it ready for paint. I still have to paint the ppump and the head (when I get it back) but it already looks 1000x better just being clean and one color again.

I know exactly what you mean. It took me a solid week of chipping away at it in my spare time after work lol but it's 100% worth it in the end!

Wow Chuck...really awesome! Love the transformation from when you have everything Cat yellow and then put the accents on. Even removing paint from the bolt heads! Last weekend, I finally acquired a second gen 12 valve for my 1958 Dodge pickup swap project. Would love to do something like you've done with yours...looks top notch!!! Appreciate your efforts in filming & editing. Love it when I get notified you've put out a new episode to watch!!! :)

I always painted my Cummins engines red because that the color they go with. But I also learned that their engines used to be black blue and beige now they are red so to me it doesn't matter what color the engine I'm going to go with mustard yellow this time since the 4th gen is all red

You should be excited, it looks terrific. I love the alternator. There aren’t going to be many like it out there. I’ve really enjoyed these last few episodes. I’ve got a 12 valve I’m tearing apart and have been trying to decide what do do paint and color wise when it goes back together. I’m looking to do the same, but to powder coat the stuff that will withstand the temps.
@ChucksCustoms
@ChucksCustoms 5 лет назад
I really appreciate it! I actually just got all the equipment to try powder coating and I'm getting antsy to try it lol I'm almost positive those valve covers are going to get banged up when I reinstall it in the truck. Maybe that will be a good time to try it out 👍

Hey Chuck good to see another awesome episode by you and btw that NV4500 is bullet proof I can attest to that however just to warn you though 1st and 2nd are super short gears and the others are fairly tall! Also I you find yourself having trouble shifting gears you might want to try double clutching as it seems to shift better for me when I do it that way

@ChucksCustoms, what paint did you use and what color was used to paint the exhaust manifold? Thank you
@ChucksCustoms

Here's a link where you can buy the paint: www.ebay.com/itm/182447547027 And the exhaust manifold was painted with a high temperature ceramic coating called Cerakote™

Can you shed some more light on the alternator you're running? Is it a Delco unit? How did you find one with a built-in voltage regulator? I can't find one anywhere.
@ChucksCustoms
@ChucksCustoms 4 года назад
I'm honestly not quite sure what brand it is. I know it's for a 1996 Dodge 2500 Cummins, but the built in regulator was a modification done by an alternator shop. If you get the alternator and bring it to an alt shop just tell them you need a one wire conversion with a built in regulator. Hope this helps!

Still working on my paintjob on my 5.9 while it's out. How has your paint held up after getting the exhaust side of the head hot? Anything you'd do different or are you totally happy with it?
@ChucksCustoms
@ChucksCustoms 4 года назад
It's honestly held up surprisingly well! As long as you use the high heat primer, and the genuine CAT paint (if that's the color you're going with) you should be just fine. I can honestly say I'm 100% satisfied with how it's holding up so far!
@dante04srt
@dante04srt 4 года назад
@@ChucksCustoms I've used the high heat primer on everything except the aluminum parts, which were sprayed with the HF self etching primer. Just wire wheeled and primed the valve covers this morning; waiting on them to dry before spraying the color. I did my block/head/pump/etc in gloss black (everyone advised against it because of oil leaks, but I've gone to great lengths to seal the engine all the way around), the fuel lines in silver and I'm still deciding which color to do the valve covers. They'll either be silver or a hammer tone copper. I disassembled most of my engine as part of a partial rebuild so it'll be nice to get it all back together. Cannot wait to be done with this part and start making progress on the actual swap!
@ChucksCustoms
@ChucksCustoms 4 года назад
@@dante04srt I know exactly how you feel about wanting to be done lol but I think gloss black with the hammered copper valve covers would look incredible! Sounds like you've made some awesome progress!

@@ChucksCustoms Still working on getting my engine detailed! I'm just about done with the cleaning/painting and did the injection lines today. Holy heck that took forever! I took them apart and used a wire wheel, just like you showed in the video. I ended up painting mine silver, as I was worried about corrosion leaving them bare. It's coming together, but soooooo slow. I'll send you a pic of the engine once it's all back together, before it goes in the truck. I took a lot of creative liberties from this video series!
