Thanks for sharing. I just finished the same project a couple of months ago on my new to me 96. My killer dowel pin actually fell out and did hit the top of the cam gear and blow the side of the housing out. The original owner spent all kinds of money repainting the truck and doing the interior but never did the Kill pin. Really surprised me. I had to use wooden dowels to hold the tappets up to remove the cam ect ect, pull the P Pump gear and replace the housing . Another place to look for oil leaks is the vacuum pump in front of the steering pump. Cummins sells a rebuild kit for reasonable and you can do the labor yourself. I would also recommend the green serpentine belt instead of the black one. The green one will not squeal like the black ones do. I didn't have to remove the AC condenser to pull the cam and do my front end. I also had to do the wear ring and buy the $75 seal from Cummins. I appreciate you guys making the video, and giving your take on technical skills to do the work. If one takes his/her time and watches all the video it is doable. My current project is the sending unit for the gas tank. Always reads empty. Then there is the brake light that constantly stays on and the new clutch. Enjoy your truck and looking forward to more videos on it.
Honestly man I appreciate every single word you just said. I just started making a profit on RU-vid about 6 months ago and it’s a dream to “get paid to do what you love”. It’s funny you mentioned the vacuum pump so not the pump itself but the feedline from the block someone made a homemade pressure fitting and it’s leaking we ordered a Cummins oem tho and then all my oil leaks are fixed. Not all the leaks total cause of PS and Trans but oil fixed! Again man I appreciate your support a lot if you aren’t subbed go ahead and hit that sub button 🤝
they run like magic but have oil leaking all over everything ! just bought a 91 it has 300k miles and i did the kdp my pin was literally out all the way i gave it a tiny pull and it popped out ! i hit the kdp lottery i put some loctite on it and tapped it back in then put my kdp tab on it ! waiting on injectors water pump alternator and lift pump to come in im gonna put my new power valve in and change the governor spring im saving my 4200rpm spring for my new cylinder head .
I have mine apart right now, but my balancer just won't come off the crank because it hasn't been off in its 30+ years of existence. Picked up a jaw style puller hopefully will be able to get it off tomorrow was prying on the balancer for an hour the other night it just wouldn't let go. I have a 92 instead though with a ve pump.
question I'm about to attempt the kdp on my 12v I didn't see anything about unplugging the back of the motor to use the tool to stop it from turning when you torque it down any advise?
Did you put any silicone around your seal? Some people say to do it and some say if you get the seal with the red ring on the out side then you don’t have to. And that’s the one I have.
