imo, at the stage: "THATS NOT RED!" if you would have done a covering with a red contrast, perhaps even diluted, you would have made the armor pop more red rather than rusty orange, just some thoughts
From what I can tell they are more like service documents stating the armour has been properly maintained and blessed by the Tech Marines, and thus would be replaced every time the armour is serviced. Just with added religious and gothic over the topness. I would assume in heavy combat the seals would break, burn away or fall off - signalling the Marine that their armour requires a looking at and new seals are needed once the work is done.
@@MidwinterMinis I'll admit as a blood angels player I was skeptical at first about it being mostly orange and orangey yellow, but this turned out awesome, I did not expect the result.
The other day, I had a dream with Guy. He was giving me a masterclass on minis painting and I was so spellbound by seeing him painting and talking in front of me that I took Guy's paint water and drank it. He was looking surprised
"Blood angels red is changing all the time, so I painted mine orange" (I'm joking don't kill me :P ) They actually look great for the 'lowlight' conditions that may be encountered on an ancient and not-working-anymore spaceship
That actually makes a lot of sense! They're in a dark derelict husk of spaceships, not on a parade. Still, if/when I start my box I think I'm going a bit brighter on the red anyway because I like it more than Guy's one, should be a minor adjustment I hope
My wife bought me the 2014 edition for our first anniversary in 2014. I've just now finished painting the marines to my satisfaction. I went all out on these guys.
My uncle gave me this set when i was born and discovered the set four years ago. I instantly fell in love with warhammer and have played tyranids eversince
Glad you like the models, I was working in the studio, and on the project at the time and it's great to see Alex get the praise he so richly deserves for his wonderful work
Perfect timing... I'm am nearly done with my Space Hulk genestealers and about to start the Blood Angels! Such a good game. Can't believe it's 12 years old!
As a kid i saved up money for months in order to buy the box but when i got the money they’ve already sold all of them. Happy to see these minis being painted
These were my first ever miniatures! Picked them up on a whim because the board game looked cool and had no idea what I was getting myself into. I’ve often thought about repainting them, they’re fantastic sculpts, and my beginner paint job doesn’t do them justice.
I remember when this came out. At my local GW everyone wanted to have the terminators. Yea like you said, they were sold out extremely fast and every weekend when I was at the GW at least one person came in asking for a box :D This lasted for a good few weeks.
@@pianomanwithapianoplan504 still. Don't eyeball it if you're literally colorblind. At least reference other models palette for red. I basically paint my BA like Khorne Bezerkers
im not going to lie, in the beginning, i was not feeling that color of red that was chosen. but in the end, i really appreciated how dynamic and different that looked. really well done. also i need to grab that royal purple for the cloaks of my custodes. that is such a nice color.
Nice, that's almost exactly how I painted mine from my unboxing video. I totally agree, they are some of the best sculptures GW has come out with and were so much fun to paint. Love your videos and looking forward to seeing your judge dread one 😁👍
This board game is what got me into miniature painting. I purchased the 4th edition off ebay for a little under 200 bucks and when I got the minis I thought, "these miniatures are too cool and too expensive to not have any color." I then went on youtube and searched for how to paint blood angel space marines. That was about 5 years ago now. One of the few board games I have COMPLETED painted.
If you feel like putting together a sweet hobby lamp you could do what I did. Get one of those super slim LED exterior flood lights (remember to get lots of cord too) and install it into a microphone stand with a boom, the only thing you might need for this apart from the main components would be some electrical tape, a plug and maybe a nut to affix the light to the boom (I wouldn't even bother to put a light switch I switch mine off with the switch in my hobby desk extension cord oh and don't go crazy with the size of the lamp itself i'd recomend either 5, 15 or 20W at most) This whole lamp should not run you more than 40/50 USD unless you want to pick a mic stand with more features or higher quality.
You're right. The Vallejo Royal Purple tends to cover really nicely. So nicely, in fact, that I have once managed to create a "Purple Chernobyl" on my shirt. It took three washing mashine trips before the paint finally disappeared. That's quite unusual for Vallejo though. Usually it's not so difficult to clean the accidents.
“I’m not gonna do any heavy dry brushing” - immediately does three overbrush steps and an all over dry brush 🤣 Seriously though, it’s ways great to finish work to see an new MWM video! Great job! And I love the ‘participation and swimming certificates’ 😂
Really love that you're sticking to the 14paints! Thanks for the vid! The color contrast scheme is quite bold! Like the over brushing and single coat approach!
It’s funny, I was just looking through some of my old warhammer stuff and found these minis - always wanted to paint them, but new for sure I wasn’t good enough. Thanks for the cool video, I might give it a try now!
Awesome video bud, keep em coming.. glad i have your age and you have this channel! Just recently started Warhammer again after allmost 20 years. greetings from Netherlands
Excited to see more Space Marine Chapters painted up on the channel! Space Marines can get super tedious so these tutorials are fantastic! Still waiting for some Space Wolves!
List of subfactions, factions, and games that I don’t play: Blood Angels, Space Marines, and 40k. List of models I now want to paint: Blood Angles Terminators.
1:54 - that slow fade out zoom is next level, Guy :D On a serious note, your videos always manage to elicit the same feelings and atmosphere of 40k way back when - thank you for that! Another edit - at the "That's not red" point of the video and it already looks badass. Coming from a CGI background, whenever post edits use colour grading on an image or video, pretty much 99% of the time the original hue is kind of departed from for it to land in something quite different. This also happens to enhance the subject considerably. Great job!
Thanks for making this video! I havent painted anything since October, and seeing your terminators done really gave me the motivation to pick up my brush. Also, terminators are the besttt!
I completely agree about the not worrying about the particular reds. But, and this may be partially due to the camera not showing up the colours the same way eyes would, to me they look more orange than red, they don't scream blood angels without knowing the armour iconography. They are still really awesome, well done models, please don't take it as bashing what you've done.
Ahh great stuff! Those are looking very much like space hulk (1e) era blood angles. Loving the more orange look. But my set is Memphiston red spray! Might be the ticket to get out of my painting slump.
Ok, fun fact: there is a fan made Adeptus Arbites codex on ID4Chan and I printed it out. It actually a great and balanced army, great weapons like choke grenades ( wound on a +4 if not vehicle or titanic) or the Needle rifle ( wounds on a +2 unless vehicle or titanic) I was thinking of making some models for fun.
WARNING!!!! If you don't thin the paint enough and you don't wait long enough between layers you basically just paint your mini brown, then a slightly different shade of brown, and then a slightly different shade of brown again. Love the video though! Your Blood Angels look great and I'm fixing to go try again!!!
Bought the game a year or so back after I found a sealed copy in a shop in Germany for a decent price, bought the paints to paint everything, realised I hadn't painted anything in 25 years and was incompetent back then. It still awaits painting.
i hear you. have not picked a paitbrush up since i left GW in 2002, whatched Guy, and presto buying minis and paints and brushes and realising just how bad my eyes are after nearly 20 years
@@alexforty905 I am in a similar boat being 50 now. Excellent lighting and a set of headgear magnifiers, just a low enough magnification to make up of aging eyes, makes all the difference.
These were my first 40k miniatures (2013 re-release) and I gave myself a go last spring while lockdown. Really glad I painted them and it wasn't so hard after all as I could take my time with them :-)
I appreciate the cheekiness in calling purity seals 'participation awards', it gets a chuckle out of me every time. But, there's a part on my soul that burns with anger when you say it. Also, yet another amazing video. Cheers.
Look very well to me; it's true that for me the best Blood Angels red it's the Tamiya XF7 over a white base coat... but, i like those ones, look like as they've been in many battles already.
I played mission 1 of Space Hulk, got to the end with my Blood Angles and that bloke 1:09 was just say there in a room; I didn't know that I had to lob a grenade at him to end the mission and the tyranids just kept coming.
