Using the work "talent" to describe an artist is doing them a disservice. This is a CRAFT. A skillset built by years of hard work and striving for excellence.
nobody is born with god like artistic abilities its not fucking magic, you learn and then you work and you repeat until you get good. So no artists aren't talented they are skilled anybody can be an artist its just that the majority of people choose not to do art cause they don't believe in them selves and think theyre automatically bad just because theyre not good from the beginning. Nobody starts off good you just get better with time and experience and lots of fucking practice. If people actually put elbow greese into things they wouldn't be complaining that theyre bad when they volunteraly choose not to create. unless your one of those child prodigy's who just so happen to be equipped with those advanced skillsets at a very young age then, no you aren't talented your skilled by learning and training and working. That goes for any type of work honestly
i hate it when ppl are like 'wow ur so talented' no im not i say up late drawing and practicing i wasnt born with it and then they go ahead and say 'ill never be like u' and i say yes you can! i bet u u can be better than me if u tried
"I'll go in with a fine brush..." Lady, you've been using 2 hairs and some air since the beginning!!! I don't see how you can get much finer than that!
@@haadisamid206 , that's probably where I heard it first, a long time ago. I used to watch him all the time, during the first run of his shows. It's just been so long I forgot where the saying came from.
2 Old Geeks Talking I’ve seen a few of the ones that Kat and her husband do at this place and they are amazing. Both of them are the nicest people I’ve known the past 9 years!!
@@CollectSideshow Have just done so now. I don't know if you have previously done such a video, I am about to check but it would be really great if you could do a video on what paint, materials and tools these professional people use, I notice that particular Cel-vinyl paint for instance is a rare sort but I noticed on her glove how incredibly plasticy/volumous not sure how to express what I mean but the black texture buildup on her gloves is really interesting. From my tiny amount of research this is a paint thats unique and it looks like the only company producing it is going out of business.
@@folbfolb ah you verry fun Person! You use verry hard word to explain other not accident . so I'm not understand. But I search and envious mean similar jelous? But Thank you ^^
@@jimmymcgill2961 Naw, with slideshow collectables premium format, its all hand painted by a specific artist. So Kat is doing all of the harley quinns.
Now imagine doing this head sculpt 1500 times with the same level of patience and high level of quality! It’s amazing to see the dedication and talent these artists have and it puts the cost of these pieces into perspective. Thanks for the inside look Sideshow!
Not to burst your bubbles or anythjng, but only 2 or 3 prototypes are sculpted and painted in-house, while all final products are handled by offshore manufacturers( in most cases, china). A statue done with the professionalism shown in the behind the scenes vids will cost at least triple the amount SS is charging. However, this does not mean that the offshore production teams are bad. The variation between sample pieces and final products are easliy on an acceptable level.
Tachidottv well I guess that makes total sense and why often times the prototypes look so much better than the released products. Thanks for the heads up!
I could watch these videos all day. And it really demonstrates the "premium" aspect of these figures. A lot of people wonder why these figures cost what they do. But this shows that actually you are getting incredible value for the amount of work and skill that goes into them. I wish there were videos showing the sculpting too.
Absolutely incredible. The craftsmanship in her painting is literally just amazing. I love the side by side of each step. It is literally my goal to own one of these
I Love that while watching this she would do minor things, show the before and after and I nodded along like I could see what she was doing... Plot twist; I could see no difference it just got better....
This was AMAZING to watch. Usually when she stopped to show a comparison between the previous step and the current, there wasn't much of a difference on camera, and then suddenly, the WHOLE FACE appeared. Most of the work is so subtle!
*KAT SAPEEN* All you painters need to get together and write a book on how to paint figures and get it funded on Kickstarter. It would be a best seller as model painters everywhere would beg on bended knee for tips like these. Please discuss it with your colleagues.
The confident and steady hand SC's stable of painters have is so impressive. I am truly envious. I wish I could afford to simply pay for artists of such a caliber to paint figures for me, but hopefully with enough practice I will reach a degree of talent approaching hers!
I love this artist. She is so great at explaining her process and the results are cohesive. I adore her paint works because there is so much depth and unity. Fantastic, truly fantastic.
Antonieux what do you mean “fierce”? She seems like the most chill, down to earth person ever. Why you feminists gotta be so cringe? The truth is that this person is a wonderfully talented artist who has spent years honing their craft to the highest levels and is completely comfortable in what they do. It has nothing to do with a vagina.
@@VeriStrawberi incase you live in a bubble which it seems as though you do, in the workplace men are always seen as better and treated better, it is refreshing to see a WOMAN at the top of her craft doing what she loves
Hi, once again all the artists of Sideshow are really incredible and the products from this brand are masterpieces. This new video show us and proves us your awesome talent, it's a real pleasure to admire you because it's not easy do it. Thanks for this new sharing ;-)
I would LOVE to see more of these types of videos- I run a 3d figure painting club in Alberta- bring Artists in from all over the world- and seeing your tricks and tips is invaluable! Awesome stuff.
@@sat4.20 Yeah, basketball ball slang. As in I thought I was really good but the she comes along and violently dunks over my horrible attempt to block the basket, I fall to the ground as she lands, stands flexing above me and mean mugs my effort, all while the backboard glass rains down upon my corpse. This is a complement.
Marriage made in heaven. Beautiful head sculpt with mesmerizing paint work. I absolutely love it. I don't do premium formats or statues. I'm into 1:6 and 1:4 scale pose-able figures and I would love this Harley in either of those scales. Here's to all you artists. Thank you so much for sharing.
Really enjoying these Paint up videos. Need to put some funds aside to get an airbrush! I'm an experienced oil painter. Airbrush has such a light touch and fills in very smoothly.
Thank you RU-vid algorithm for what I thought was a terrible suggestion! I was so wrong: this was absolutely mesmerizing. You have some mad skillz, and I loved seeing every step of the process.
I love Harley Quinn and the joker so much, there my favourite villians, also amazing work this is just so cool you’ve got some skill to be able to creat this
Man,is this woman good! I’ve been building scale models since I was 5,and I’m 67 but I’ve never had the talent to do figures. My sincere respect to your talent!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Absolutely love this video showing how to get different paint techniques accomplished as well as working light to dark and dark to light for various applications
Does each statue get a by-hand paint job like this or is there some assembly line style painting that goes on because it's hard to imagine 1000's and sometimes thousands all getting done like this.
By-hand paint job in China. Several factory workers are working on a piece for several days and weeks. What she is painting here is the original that comes up in the Sideshow site and the one that gets shown off at conventions.
They are not hand painting each figure out of the 10,000 sold.. She will usualy paint the main one and they will use it for reference for what the assembly line should do. They will print it colored already.
@@FellVoice I saw pictures of the overseas painting process on the Gaming Heads site at one time. The place had hundreds of arms, legs, torsos, etc in batches and each group is assigned a specific part to work on. Groups of people airbrushing all day wearing respirators.
I would love to know what type of paint, brushes, brands and such they use because they seem to go on very smoothly! No brush strokes or anything! Wow!

I remember pre ordering this figure years ago and I was so dang happy when she came in. It's beautiful. I can't believe years later I'm coming across this video. They're so talented in airbrushing and painting the figure. It's a craft I want to learn in the event that I ever need touch ups on my figures
@@EmotionGamingRO Google sarcasm! On a side note..there are 5 year olds playing classical piano pieces in china...don't underestimate them at anything!
As long as it is sealed, you can simply take off with rubbing alcohol and do step again. It will only strip down to sealed. Not very harsh. Now if you used something denatured alcohol, would strip thru anything. Seal often and if need be after every step to be able to take off if need be and I also would use rubbing alcohol simply to clean up the line with a point brush. (round)
It is crucial to do in stages for other reasons, like to keep from "Re activating" the layer below. Say if you did a wash, like she does the 1st Blue one, and did NOT seal it before doing a second one, like the yellow she does, it is wet and would re activate the wash you just did, and as you aggravated it, with the sponge you would lift the old wash, and then the 2 would kind of mix together and and get all nasty. Seal and seal often.
Wow. Kat is phenomenal. I was captivated watching her process the whole way through. I wish I knew what paints she used. I have a cheap compressor and airbrush laying around, this video suddenly gave me the interest to maybe try figure painting in the future, as a hobby I mean. :)
No. These are prototypes. The actual are painted overseas and No where as good. All stock advertising and box art will show the prototype but the actual never looks as good. They can't reproduce overseas and to be honest, if all were done here like that would cost ten times as much. Typically a few prototypes are painted for overseas as masters for them to work off and "try" to match. And also maybe show off pieces in house or conventions. They always want to show off the prototypes.
reminder that these things are mass produced and can be obtained at a price of less than a thousand dollars. to think such level of work needed to make them is staggering, humanity has advanced so much, back then stuff like these would be the consumption of kings and nobles now everyone can get one and appreciate the intricate craft behind them while displayed behind glass shelves.
