looks real good. We had a 276 back in the square days hardly ever missed a bale, had a IH 47 before it and that was another story. Dad use to say if it was raining in Lindsay that the s.o.b wouldn't tie at home and Lindsay 20min north.
69druth lol i haven't heard much good about any balers like pre 1960. I assume a 47 was build before then? Grandpa had a few old balers that Wisconsin V4s on them. All I ever here is bad about them lol
Bill Whitman thanks bill i appreciate it! And yes I thought about him but his are the 500 series and I'm wanting a 700 series Oliver so I don't loose capacity over the 310
That 310 really turned out nice Jake. If you do decide to sell it, you've just increased the value you can get for it. Decales turned out good and really make her pop. Hope you can make a deal on that Oliver baler. I read that Hesston bought Olivers baler line back during the buyout, so parts shouldn't be a problem. Be well, See you next post.
Scott Viers thanks Scott! Ya that's why I painted it it needed one bad. That's what I've been hearing on hestons so I just need to find what Heston model was after the Olivers. Thanks for watching
Wow, you sure did a nice job on that baler. Yeah, I dont blame you for wanting a Oliver. What color a mans blood is for a tractor is what he wants. LOL, a Deere mower and now a DEERE 530. You better get rid of those or I'm gonna think you secretly like Deere. Yeah the hand clutch was kinda a silly idea. I did always like the looks of that series poppin Johnny though. Hope you end up with the Oliver baler. Man I need to catch up on my RU-vid watching. The farms got me behind. Too many things going on.
Looks really GOOD Jake ! That makes it worth Grand more now and will be an easy seller , You know how people go crazy over shinny new paint ! LOL Bandit
Now why would I want to do that for ? You forget I have 2 good Oliver balers sitting in the barn ! LOL Not yet , I don't have any cows yet and I don't want to rush into it yet . I got to do some studying on it ! LOL Bandit
got the same baler but with a bale thrower , always have trouble with strings breaking constantly just have to rebale which causes even more broken bales cause the flow of hay/straw isn't constant , changed the belts twice but no difference
Nice video of reclaiming older machinery. I am partial to the JD's from youth. You did a great job bringing this machine up. My dad had NH balers, too many days catching bales off of the chute to count. He went IH after I left for military. Nice goal to complete your Olivier collection. Stay busy!
Jake Ziegler its a good tractor but it can barely save itself haha she's had a hard life like everything else on this farm and the loader hanging off the front of it doesn't help matters I've seen my dad use it as a bull dozer countless times
I agree with you driving a John Deere tractor is like kissing your cousin, its alot of fun until your friends see you doing it! LMAO Great video thanks for taking the time to post it.
If you're looking for a project baler my mom has a 520 Oliver. Been sitting outside for years and I think the last time we used it was 20 years ago. It's most likely headed for the scrap trailer. I'm 65 miles west of St Louis. Let me know if you're interested.
Jake Ziegler as far as I'm concerned you can have it. I'm sure mom would be happy with scrap price. I'd rather see it go somewhere where somebody can do something with it than go on a scrap trailer.
that 310 looks brand new looks great jake! now i wanna get my 268 out lol. in my opinion i think the hand clutches are kinda fun id love to have a 730 diesel pony start.
i like hand clutches hooking up to implements while im standing on the ground! as long as im pulling forward and not reverse so i dont run over myself! lol and lets see who can change a clutch faster! haha
haha when you have skills like me back up a inch to far and pull forward! drop the pin!! i bet many farmers was crushed screwing up! im not a total jd fan i like all of them and own most of the brands! not allot of quality but i have quantity!!! lol
That looks like a really good paint job and has lifted is value to end Jake. Cannot you get a new collar for that PTO shaft up near the flywheel? - it spoils the overall appearance somewhat
When you look at the PTO shaft cover at the flywheel end - the one that has the slots cut into it to access the grease nipples on the shaft the PTO guard as it sits now does not fully cover the PTO shaft including the UJ near the flywheel as it should do surely?. As you look at it in the picture at the RH end where it flares out to cover the UJ, if it was pushed up close to the flywheel cover, there is a collar or fitment of some description that fits on to the shaft and fits inside the PTO shaft cover to hold the PTO cover in place when one part of the cover slides over the other part of the guard as the PTO shaft lengthens and shortens when in use. I'm sorry if my explanation is not clear enough for you to understand.
Dan Whiteford oh ok ya I see what ur talkin about. Now that the shaft is painted red I'll prolly just let it go. U sure notice a lot! Can't get anything past u lol
I'm sorry Jake, I was not trying to knit-pick at your work at all! its just that if the Health and Safety Inspector pitched up and saw that machine in use like that here they would immediately issue a prohibition ticket on that machine which means it cannot be used legally until fixed and passed re-inspection by themselves, should an on-farm accident occur that was in any way related to that guard when in use you, as the owner, would finish up in the courts and facing a fine at least. Also as a consequence Inspectors would likely be all over all your equipment at a later date and be making very regular unannounced visits to your farm. Why? simply because agriculture here in the UK has the highest death rate + serious injury statistics of any commercial industry here despite having one of the smallest size workforce within the UK.
Jake did a nice job on the painting of the New Lolland would like to see the Oliver you spoke about and keep the New Holland if you can't get a good price for her.
that is a nice looking baler now you get it working nice paint it then you want to sell it. i had a 280 and still have two 320s like new Holland balers there Built well. thanks for showing that fuel shut off, my dad told me to take the old tractor home but i need to pay him and he wont take any thing. you know they had the hand clutch but the pto was run with the foot. they were a little mixed up. back then. isnt that nice to get on and off of, when i was your age i could jump up on it, my dad had to build steps. i took him to look at a 1850 today well they can keep it. they power washed it. there were leaks all over it i told the dealer not interested, he ask why i told him it leaked to bad.he said that was how all old tractors are but it still ran. i got in the pu and left. never even tried starting it.they wanted as much as i could get a 105 for.
Howard Younger haha ya i wasn't sure if I wanted to sell it till this oliver came up. No prob that's how dad's are he's just happy u can use it. I don't blame u for walkin away from it leaks are no fun to chase down and there time consuming. Are u lookin to replace a tractor or just add to the fleet?
i want to add. the 4010 they will have to bury with me, it was my first tractor even though it is rough. im cheap got a good deal on every thing i bought at least i thought. i have been looking at White 105s and 135s but need 540 pto and 1000 both. im having no luck finding what i want. found a 105 in Wi. looks nice but it is 1000 mile away to look at and only has a 540. did they make 105s with both?
Howard Younger fare enough it's what u grew up with. If I grew up with Deere I'd prolly think they were the best lol. Ya a 105 and 135 had a dual speed pto option. They also made a 2-110 a little nicer unit. But there harder to find. If u found a 2-85 that's the same as an 1850
my dad had almost every tractor brand ever made he always bought what was the best deal, at that time that 720 he wanted real bad i will have to ask him why. he told me the other day he realy like how Olivers were built, and yet he never had one. never found a good deal. I run his Alice Chalmer 190xt more then any other tractor. that is the tractor i should have bought didnt have the money at the time. the only tractor he had i hated was a indoornational super m.that thing would beat you to death. every one i knew with Olivers had only Olivers, or Whites so i want to try them. the only reason i dont have two of them now is because i was worried about parts. if you get right down to it the 4010 if it wasnt my first tractor it is a misable thing to drive. the hydrolics are in the wrong spot. the pto is also the three point controls also. darn maybe it should be gone but it is my first tractor. sorry this was about your baler you are the best one to ask questions of though thank you Jake.
Howard Younger lol no prob Howard just good ol conversation here! I've never run an AC tractor. A neighbor has a 190 tho he wants me to do the brakes on it this summer. Ya the M and super M and H tractors were kinda crude they should've updated some things on them like operator controls and move the gauges up to the dash. U won't have trouble with parts as long as u don't get one completely wore out but u wasn't gona do that any way
Don't park the deere where the cows get to it they might eat it. I got the same baler sitting in the shed bought new not used it in several years think I will get it out this year and bale a few with it, good looking paint job.
...Gonna mtd a mailbox on it and set it out by the road, so the Mailman or lady will have a place to put "junk mail"...Do'n't bad mouth my Deeres or I'm gonna sell the stock i Got in Oliver Corporation.......
Your paint looks great but I will have to troll your decal placement lol. It just irritates me when people go to the trouble to paint something and then stick the decals wherever. I'm just OCD I guess. Where did you get your decals from?
Dale Cornelius ha! It bothered me at first to put them there but I like it now. I got them from a local guy who makes them. I doubt they would've been available from NH
I think you can still get decals from NH but they won't have the Sperry & logo. My 273 was repainted in the mid 90s after it was damaged in a shed fire before I owned it. The decals came from NH then, hard telling about now. Nice to have a local guy that cuts decals since you can't get originals for a lot of stuff these days.
I would never by a 530 but i have never seen a old 2cly on fire. My opinion but i would have an oliver baler and the new holland. Thats what i think though.
Michigan Farming i dont like the way it looks orbhow you get on it i prefer the 730 of a 630. or even an farmall or ih yes i know ih and farmall are the same thing
Minnesota oliver and deere 5-6-730s almost identical just a little bigger in size I don't get what's so different. I think ur name should be MN Oliver JD IH and NH
Looks like a new one. I watched an old John Deere day movie where they were bragging about the hand clutch, that you could hitch the plow standing on the ground, must not have been as many slip and fall lawyers around back then lol
don't know where you are but an old oliver dealer in NE Pa. has an oliver that made 1000? bales set in a barn since the early 70's. benscoter hardware. muhlenburg pa
I don't disagree with you about those old JD's and even the old Case's with the hand clutches. There has been a many of people hurt from them. I hated them. The only place they belong is in parade or better yet a static display.
