Favorite bit: everything Roman 😁 More seriously, the part on mixing skin tones and the subtleties of doing the face. Why the Mecha line of primer in particular? The only primer that’s worked satisfactorily for me so far are the Vallejo Surface Primer in German Red Brown, with Grey a second runner up, and I’m looking for more options.

To be honest... I first got the Vallejo Mecha Primer in Black a while back (long enough to not remember my reasoning at the time) but it just worked really well for me. So I stuck with it. I plan to test out some other ones soon though

I think it's great that the names and numbers of the Vallejo colors are also mentioned and displayed. Because a model stands or falls on the painting. Thank you very much for that! LG michey-berlin 😊

Mate! Totally phenomenal work. I’m blown away at how much your work has improved since your early videos. I restarted into the hobby around the same time as your first few vids appeared and whilst I’ve definitely come on a bit, your skills have had a big-bang expansion. This bust is of particular interest to me because I’ve got a very similar one in my unpainted pile which will benefit massively from this tutorial. Beautiful stuff.

That is some beautiful work. Some really interesting stuff going on there as well, like the use of non-metallic technique with metallic and non-metallic paint, putting reflected colours in as well. I don't think I've seen that done before, and I wouldn't have thought it would work, as I've always thought that effects that work in '2D' don't translate to '3D', which shows what I know. Love the work on the sleeve as well (and the cloak). Subtle underpainting on the face, using the oils translucency to great effect, all very clever stuff indeed. I'd love to see that miniature 'in the flesh', I must admit. Free-handing the shield design? Oh, behave. One question; why do you prefer the Model Air metallics?
@FlyingRavenStudios
@FlyingRavenStudios Год назад
Thanks Parazatico! Why do I prefer the vallejo metalics? ...... That's an interesting question 🤔 It depends on what I am doing. As I mentioned, they can be trickier to use on small (stand alone) details because they are much thinner. But in general thats why I like them, along with them being able to easily use in an airbrush as much as with a paintbrush and still get a good result. There are many awesome paints out there that I want to try out. Which I fully intend to.... when time (and the bank manager) allows 😁

Hi, What colour code for the Vallejo model air Yellow, as there are a few different shades and the Gunship Green is that also model air. Thanks. The skin tone is the best, as you've captured the mediterranean skin tone perfectly.
@FlyingRavenStudios
@FlyingRavenStudios 3 месяца назад
Thanks and that is a very valid point! I will include the colour codes in future videos. But in this instance, the Vallejo model air gunship green is 71.014 and the vallejo model air yellow is 71.078

Do you mean how to dry brush as a technique, or dry brushes as a tool?

Lovely painting, and the techniques demo is interesting: but the bust is ruined [for me] by the ridiculous and unrealistic "reenactor"pose. The shield design "research" is a bit of a laugh. There is only one 1st century legionary shield design that is known for sure, and Leg VIIII Hispana is not it. They were transferred out of Britain decades before Hadrian ever came to power, anyway.
@FlyingRavenStudios
@FlyingRavenStudios 10 месяцев назад
Thanks. Re the research, everyday is a school day. Out of interest, which legion design is known for sure?
@HO-bndk
@HO-bndk 10 месяцев назад
@@FlyingRavenStudios The only 1st century design known for sure is Legio XIV Gemina. Exactly the same design is shown on a shield held by the eagle-bearer of that legion on his tombstone portrait and on a shield held by a soldier on a relief from the fortress HQ at Mainz when that legion was known to be in garrison. There is slight evidence for the design of the I Adiutrix and for the II Adiutrix too, but the I Adiutrix one is known from one source only and the II Adiutrix one is disputed. There are sources for wargamers and miniatures painters which purport to identify 1st and 2nd century legions by their shield designs but those are all just modern constructions. Despite not knowing much about the exact designs, strangely there is lots of evidence for red, yellow, green, white, blue and black being used as colours on shields (so your design is pretty much a guess but your colour scheme is spot on 👍).
