My daughter was honked by an inpatient van driver whilst on her driving test. Apparently it seems he didn't like the fact she was driving at the speed limit of the road, he overtook her as she was heading into a corner. Unfortunately these idiots are among us . Thankfully she passed with only 3 minors and the examiner congratulating her for her calmness. Good luck to little miss hubnut for her test.
@HowardLeVert
@HowardLeVert День назад
My experience is generally drivers of stupid oversized pickup trucks and Range Rovers tailgating me and flashing their headlights on the A1 even though I may be exceeding the speed limit myself in an overtaking manoeuvre. I sometimes slow down to annoy them further if I'm feeling vindictive but generally I let them pass - whilst this feels like rewarding their idiot behaviour, I'd rather have these berks in front of me than behind me.

Last year my youngest daughter had someone start beeping the horn at her, after she stalled at a roundabout, while I was supervising her during some driving practice in my Mk1 Focus. I also nearly got out of the car to confront them. What the hell are these people thinking? The sound of the horn will magically improve the learner driver's skills? In the end she drove herself from Newark to Scotch Corner services, in one go, almost faultlessly. She then went on to pass her test first time.

People have a lot of impatience in vehicles, and it disappoints me how learner drivers are easy beeping/aggression targets. I have the same discussion with my partner when we're out learning in our car, Judy (the 500x) is ever so slightly more awkward with her clutch than the golf the missus drives with her proper instructor so she stalls the first few times and you get the honks it's like being surrounded by geese. We were out the other day and people would be on a 30mph road over taking in this case a taxi with passengers what a load of good it did him being in front of us he got no further till her turned off about 5 miles into our drive. Honestly i think people forget that having a licence isn't a right and driving the way they do with complete disregard for learners will end up having that privilege swiftly taken from them.

On the honking.. Returning to the UK after a long time away, it feels like Brits are hugely impatient? Was it always like this? Getting petrol today, I had a bit of trouble opening the fuel cap of my MX-5 and the person behind me looked like they wanted to kill me. I don’t get it.

An explanation 26 years too late. Perhaps what happened to the Subie and oil fire is what happened to my '88 GL wagon secondhand winter beater, the Warthog. Model prior to the first Legacy. Left a giant trail of smoke for half a mile on a limited access road. Only happened to notice it in my rear view mirror. Stopped. And nothing found underhood whatsoever. Never hiccuped and was sold on when I got my Impreza. All Subies with time leak around the O-rings sealing the spark plug tube. You don't need a new cam cover, for goodness sake! The Warthog had air suspension and full-fat tyres. Positively ate up bumps, and kept level. An electrician acquaintance bought it because he could overload it and it would happily pump back up to level. The Forester Gen 1 with turbo is but a cheapy car underneath. It's "luxury" is skin deep at best and the hard suspension means it needs every rubber suspension bushing replaced. They get really "crashy" but without obvious noise when the bushes age, and yours is 22 years old. Needs a refurb.

Had 3 Subaru's within my family: 1986 Brumby (Brat or whatever its called in your country, that pickup truck thing, had for at least 15 years as it was my grandpas last ever vehicle before he passed away), a 1998 Forester 2.0 non turbo manual (had for 7 years, my dad's old car) and a 2006 Forester 2.5 non turbo manual (currently owned for just gone 9 years, originally my dad's but now mine since he's taken over my grandma's Corolla/Auris hatchback as she just recently stopped driving and was placed in a nursing home). All of them had original engines, and never had a massive engine failure, minus a misfire on the 2006 on cylinder 4, which could happen to any car, and that was about 7-8 years ago. Since then, never had a real issue. And they have been driven to bits, can't remember the Brumby, but both Forester's have had a combined 120,000 kilometres put on them in 16 years (98 was traded in for the 06 at around 270k kms when the 06 was around 127k kms, the 06 is just under 200k kms at around 193k). So you can't say something is crap, when there's proof otherwise.
