I prefer a Greenland paddle, it's much less tiring and excellent for support strokes. The Euro blade gives more immediate bite and acceleration but cruising speed is the same. But the Greenland requires a different technique which takes a bit of time to learn. I had a terrible experience with neoprene gloves, nearly drowned because I couldn't feel the release tab on my deck, just bought pogies which are a good alternative. Higher camera angle does look better.
I agree with you about the Greenland paddle differently less strain on your shoulders, I will be trying it again but next time I will wear my skirt ! I know what you mean about the gloves I had a similar experience with some 5mm neoprene gloves, but for me it was trying to get back into the boat (I couldn't grip it) so that's why I went for 3mm this time. Roll on Summer... Also thanks for the info about the camera, much appreciated. 👍
Started using one about 2 years ago don't think I will ever stop. There's definitely times where I may prefer a euro blade but a Greenland can do about everything well minus a speedy acceleration.
Seems it's time to remind you, George: the river is supposed to be outside, not inside the kayak 😂 Of course a bit trickier with a Greenland paddle. The spray skirt might be called for next time! Anyway, nice to see the new upgrades, and cool shot under the bridge there. Stay safe and happy paddles! Happy new year!
lol Haha So that's what I got wrong, keep forgetting (water on the outside) You're bloody right about the spray skirt, I knew I should have used one but wanted to see if my great idea with the drip rings worked (NOOOOO) So you liked the Decals then, I thought I would buy some this time because I knew they would stick on the PakAyaK unlike my X500. Happy New Year!
Too bad you did not include some good shots when paddling with the Greenlake. It really 'begs' for a complete different stroke style as opposed to the euro blade (which you really lift out of the water way more as opposed to the Greenlake)
I agree A Greenland paddle is used in a different manner to a Euro blade However you still lift it out of the water after each stroke and because of the design you get socked if you're not wearing a spray skirt.
Even with a spray skirt on it is too wet to paddle with a Greenland paddle. Not a favorite for me, I´ve have tried it but don't´like it. Happy new year!🤗
Fair enough! Like me I tried one 23 years ago and I didn't like it. But I thought I would give it another go because it does take the strain of your shoulders. Maybe a better paddle for Summer when you don't mind getting wet.
