Pakistan Railway Electric Locomotive BCU-30
The abbreviation BCU30 stands for British Consortium Universal, 3000 horse power. Pakistan got 29 of these units starting in 1964. Their serial numbers were 7001 to 7029. These units could only be used on the 276 km route between Lahore and Khanewal as only this length of Pakistan’s Rail network is electrified.
These locomotives work on AC (alternating current) traction of 25000 Volts.
In 2009, PR Stop operation of BCU-30 Locomotives due to lack shortage of electricity and poor decision of PR management. currently PR no use any single
Electric Locomotive.

In India we are trying hard to achieve hundred percent electrification in all railway routes by 2025. Why Pakistan Railway stop the electric locomotive services? I think Pakistan Railway should take advice from Indian Railway for better services. Instead of purchasing chinese railway products they should buy Indian locomotives, rail coaches, wagons which are better then chinese products.

PR stop electrification system due to shortage of electricity & lack of management decisions Now, PR first step taken & installed new signal systems & upgrade tracks support 160 Km/h PR itself manufacture rail coaches & Also has ability of manufacture locos but lack of financial problem

They ask for Refurbished diesel loco from India and India refuse to sell as you all know they have bad track record of payments as they did not pay for the diesel when bus is used to run between Delhi and Lahore..... Actually they put all there money in promoting terrorism in India rather to use that money for welfare of there own people.....

I m an Indian but as a railfan I kinda feel the regressive state of railways in Pakistan hopefully they invest more in railways and start using electrification and make travelling comfortable to the common people in Pakistan good luck guys👍

Their is a very deep vicious cycle who criminally and purposefully did it. In India they blame us but they don't know the full story behind it. It's not that we were not capable to manage it at least to south Asian standards but we have been deceived and robbed in brought day light from mafias in white clothing it just not railways be all public utility system and there is a long and sad journey of it..hope to me day we may come out of these shackles of slavery.

You have shown a truth to Indians that Pakistan started Electrification of Railways in 1964. The streach of 276 was covered in one go at a speed of 100 to 120 Kms. There are still many people who enjoyed this Journey.

The first electric train ran in India with the inauguration of services between Bombay VT and Kurla Harbour on 3rd Feb 1925 on ex-GIP Railway system. The section was electrified on 1500 Volt DC. ... 1500 Volt DC traction was introduced on the Suburban section of Western Railway between Colaba and Borivili!! So Indian side started way before & continued even after Partition

Pakistan ke netao ne pakistan ko angrezo se bhi jyada loota hai. Shayad hi aisa koi desh hoga jahan electric ko puri tarah se band karke diesel loco chalaye gaye hon. Sirf 4 ya 5 bade power plant pure pakistan ko bijali dene ke liye kafi hain lekin ye wo bhi nahin kar paye. Fir bhi pakistan ke youth kuch accha karne ki koshish karo aur apne desh ko aage le jao

Oh.. I m surprised that Pakistan were having electric engines too once.. But now it is not there.. Here in India electrification is being done at war foot basis.. In next 7 years.. India will complete its target of electrification which is around 80%"of tracks.. Some tracks to be left for Diesel engines intentionally...

In India WAP7, WAP5, WAP12 electric engines are super powerful. It is above 6000 hp engines and can haul trains at 200 kmph... In India around 55 %tracks are electrified..... The best thing is coming in India for goods trains .. This year only Eastern dedicated freight corridor is starting... Alstom a French company is making electric engines of 12000hp in Bihar state under Make in India theme... These engines will haul goods train of double the capacity at 100kmph...

Tum log toh sirf apna paani zaaya hi karte aaye ho, ab hamari hukumat sirf apne hisse ke paani ko rokna chaah rahi hai toh rote-peet-te World Bank pahunch gaye. Lol! Arey tumhari kahil, corrupt, aur farebi govt bad ro-peet sakti hai, aur kuchh nahi kar sakti. Tum Pakistani shahri, apni govt aur press ke behkaave mein aa kar hum Indians par Apni har bad-intezami aur nakamyabi ka dosh madhte rehte ho.

I had seen the Lahore- Khanewal electric track and Lahore electric Station. The train started in 1969 and cease to function in late 90s when Railway suffered huge losses. The train was covering 240 miles in 4 hours.

Railway is for batter connectivity and not for railfans dream's. Fuel cost is 3 times cheep in electric locomotive if you compare with diesel. That's why steem locomotive's are removed from railway service except in some ng heritage lines.

It is true, but modern electric locomotives are far more powerful, nowadays they reach 7000HP and have a top speed of 220 km/h (140 mph) even a strong acceleration, they can go from 0 to 100km/h in about 30 seconds.

@@rogeriomonteiro760 hp is not the measurement of power in railroad!! What matters is tractive effort and also the weight of the engine .. in overall electric locos r less efficient and makes more pollution than diesel locos if the source of power is a coal power plant.. cuz a coal plant is barely 30% efficient that means only 30% of the original energy from coal transforms into electricity and then the grid loses 20% of that electricity or more in transportation and then the electric loco it self is about 70% efficient .. so in overall efficiency from start to end electric loco is like 10% to 20% efficient while a diesel power plant is 40% to 60% efficient and a whole loco from fuel to traction is probably like 40% efficient.. 100% electrification can never be achieved or doing so will lead to heavy loss and waste of money. Diesel locomotives will always remain in service and will be maintained by the railways... Anything that has a risk of attack will always be transported by diesel loco.. like neuclear fuel , military trains , trains contaning cash , or trains for high security personnels like a prime minister.. &there is many routes where the passenger traffic is really low and probably 1 train runs every day in those areas electrification will be useless and waste of money as the grid requires maintenance and a substation every few kms..

@@1979antu coal is cheaper than diesel. & At the best days of steam era , steam locomotives were regularly doing 100miles an hr on mainline oparations and becoming more and more efficient .. the only problem with steam was its maintenance requirment. Every day it would take 4hrs or more to clean the boiler and fire box and leak check everything to maintain optimal efficiency .. or else the engine will consume lot of coal and make little power.. steam also had huge torque advantage.. in steam trains drivers fear of wheel slip more than running out of power cuz the loco can easily spin wheels with too much power..

@@KuntalGhosh please check cost per km for any period for coal vs diesel vs electric. Electric is always cheep most. Diesel is next and coal is costliest. Please check cost per km and not the cost of only one ingredient.

PR was doing fair enough atleast until Ghulam Bilour took charge as railway minister in 2008. He destroyed railways completely. You know one person can change a whole organisation like Lalu Prasad Yadav did in India as railway minister. Now Pakistan trying to construct a separate new mainline from Karachi to Peshawar with Chinese collaboration. Currently Pakistan railways is totally in loss and big burden on govt. Why did you discontinue the use of Electric Railway traction? Diesel is costlier than electricity and is a great pollutant of the atmosphere. In India, we are planning to replace diesel locomotion totally with electric traction for both passenger and goods haulage. Your country can like China erect wind-driven turbines to rotate their huge fans at Pakistans' mountainous terrains and hilltops with constant high force winds. We are also developing windfarms at our coastal and Himalayan regions. Your country also can develop nuclear electricity which can make one kilo of coal to provide a month-long supply of electric power for your most populated city of Karachi and run all your trains on electric traction as you did in the past.

पाकिस्तान की अवाम अपको अपने देश क लिये अब आगे आना चाहिए । खासकर युवाओं को।भारत मे हम 80%बिजली से ट्रेन चला रहे है।पकिस्तान एक अच्छा देश बन सकता है । वहाँ भी बहुत प्रतिभा है ।हमे दुशमन ना समझ के दोस्त मानिये।भारत के समांन चीन के समान कई गुना अच्छे है ।पकिस्तान रैलवे को भारत से कोच ,लोकोमोटिव ,रैल्वे उपकरणों को खरीदना चाहिये । पकिस्तान की सियासत पकिस्तान को खा गई है।पाकिस्तानीयो आप लोग इसे अब बदल डालो। रेल प्रेमी होने क नाते पकिस्तान रेल की ऐसी दशा देख के हार्दिक दुख हुआ।

you're right dear but to be honest I think in india politicians (bjp rss etc) and media are totally against Pakistan and they inculcate haterd in common people. That's why it's not easy to normalise relations. In Pakistan some people also hate india but majority wants good relations

@@agrajmishra6128 That's not the issue.Pakistan don't have money to buy electricity to light their town so how they can afford to run trains where people try to cheat railway by not buying tickets so diesel was the best idea which they can borrow atleast.

I still remember that these electric locos were only operating from Lahore to Khanewal junction. After khanewal junction diesel locos were attached for Karachi routes. Unfortunately now these locos are no more. Golden Era.

Yes dear. Some leaderships do take countries on a negative progress graph. Diesel locos are costlier to run and require lots of maintenance. The real problem ,i think, was the Truck mafia which let down the freight carrying capacity of PR. Remember that it is not the passenger trains but the freight trains which make profit for the nation. The present Indian govt has policies in the right places as, for railways, dedicated freight corridors are almost completed. The freight trains were not given priority over passenger trains hence the average speed of freight trains was just 40 -50 kmph. With dedicated corridor, this will jump to 80-100 kmph bringing huge benefits to the traders and directly to the Indian Railways.

External styling needs improvement. Plus more powerful locos with 2 pantographs are needed, if trains have to run faster.

Whilst it may look better with twin pantographs the fact is on high voltage AC you only ever need to use one. For he same amount of power output 25KV only requires 1/16 of the current compared to a DC 1500V loco

they are already capable, the normal trains run at 105kmp. The video is more than a decade old Apparently, PR is currently working on 160kmp tracks.

PR was doing fair enough atleast until Ghulam Bilour took charge as railway minister in 2008. He destroyed railways completely. You know one person can change a whole organisation like Lalu Prasad Yadav did in India as railway minister. Now Pakistan trying to construct a separate new mainline from Karachi to Peshawar with Chinese collaboration. Currently Pakistan railways is totally in loss and big burden on govt. I doubt may be in coming years govt. privatise it 😢

Very heartbreaking to see how PR destroyed the complete electrification system only to promote diesel loco shed and mafia. Loved these and want to see electrification back in Pakistan. Not sure if CPEC has this included

ByTheWay Digital It's not because of "diesel mafia" as there is no such mafia exists here. It was because of the subsequent governments policies that destroyed not only the electric traction but the system as such. They preferred road transport over rail. Besides inefficient and corrupt workers appointed by these governments were also responsible for the present state of affairs.

I have interacted with Pakistanis outside Pakistan and they have been quite friendly. It seems some foreign power (probably China) is promoting hostility between both countries. China has a vested interest in keeping Pakistan under it's control

Never be ashamed of what you have. You can make anything better if you can. Rest is up to you. Pakistan too had good locomotives and they could upgrade these for better but instead they destroyed all of em just because they're made by Britishers and imported chinese manufactured locomotives.
