Fantastic. No soundtrack. Slow, thoughtful camera movement. Good notes. Don't ever change the formula. A video featuring aqueducts, roads and bridges would be great.
I recently spent a few nights in the Albergo il Monastero (Castello Aragonese) on Ischia. Maybe you know this. Same problem there. Instead of keeping the charm of the old buildings and churches, they place modern art everywhere, making it look silly.
Grazie, Grazie, Grazie. My husband and I did the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill in 2017 and we missed a lot according to this video. We’re going back again September 9th - 19th, we look forward to exploring the walk ways that you provided to us with this video. Thank you so much! 🇮🇹❤️
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have a newer video of the palatine hill on my channel. It's part of my new Roman Forum walk. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy your trip.
I could feel the heat of that walk. Have been to the Palatine hill many years ago and must return to your fantastic city. I love Rome and its historical signifcance in changing europe for ever. Thankyou for your time and knowledge. Cheers from UK.
THANK YOU for this video and the video on the Colosseum and Forum. I spent 10 days in Rome in June and throughly enjoyed walking tours of the Colosseum & Palatine Hill. Unfortunately, being over 70 and trying to recover from a total knee replacement 7 months prior, I just couldn't continue through the Forum and the guided tour, while led by absolute expert lady, was tedious at a rapid pace. I saw more 'ancient' stones beneath me than having time to look up and enjoy the history. As a history professor and addict having read innumerable books about the Caesars and the Empire, your videos filled a great blank spot for me.
Whole video was really cool besides the "art" work, which is obviously out of your control. Thanks for the vid! I very much hope to visit Rome one day.
Thanks for the walking tour. My wife and I recently visited but didn't traverse the first part of your walking tour. We were tired after the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and walking up the Palatine hill till we reached the Palatine terrace. I'm glad you did it for us! Fascinating place and recently viewed it in 3D on other RU-vid sites. Spectacular and thankful we still can reflect on that civilization.
Thank you so much for posting these videos. I was in Rome a few years ago but I couldn’t visit the most part of what you have shown here because I have to use a wheelchair to walk long distances and all those stairs make it harder. Thanks to you I could see today what I’ve missed years ago. Congratulations and please continue your great work!
Well that's great you were able to make it to Rome. I'm glad I could help complete your tour. I have been filming all summer but have beem away from home so i haven't had a chance to post up anything new. The next video will be posted up on August 15th of Ponza, Italy. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for no music in the background, or narration. The natural sound of your steps crunching duplicated what it would have been like had I walked it myself. Your printed commentaries are perfect. This is a winning combo.
Pedro Mendes ..it’s not hard to guess who is responsible for this outrage. The radicals in power hate anything fine and noble. Doesn’t match their agenda.
Just went to Italy in 2019 took the Palatine Hill tour. Spent $75.00 each. Never again I learned so much from your video. My guide did not cover 19% of what you did. Thank you very much. From now on we are watching your videos before we go to any sites in Italy.
Hey Robert, sorry to hear you spent $75.00 for your tour! I took a similar tour my first time to the forum too. I'm glad you enjoyed this walk. Thanks for watching!
It is so shameful for me as an italian to know that. Definitely You spent too much from my point of view . There are so many tourists traps in Rome of which everyone must be aware before all, I am sorry.
@@MrRobbyvent Hey, it's not your fault Roberto. Tourist traps happen everywhere in the world. The key to avoiding them is to plenty of research before you go somewhere.
This is so great. Last year, we took a tour of the Colosseum and Forum, but we didn't go through the Palatine Hill palaces area. We made our way from the Colosseum up to the terrace overlooking the Forum and then we went down into the Forum, which was so cool. So, you've given me an entire part of the Hill that I didn't get a chance to see. Thanks so much. I hope to go back again some day.
Can you imagine how powerful the Roman Emperor was. Look at the size of that palace. Imagine it in its full glory, many stories, cover with marble all over, beautiful paintings all over, statues, astonishing fontains, lavish fabrics, gold blinging in every single decoration . Everything in a huge proportion and that top view of the glorius Roman Forum, with its monumenntal basilicas, temples, markets, public buildings, archs, all great, fancy and full of richness. I can imagine myself as the emperor in that place waking out of my gorgeous and magnificent room into that terrace, contemplating the view of "my" Rome, the most important and glorius city in the world and thinking to myself "how mighty am I". That's probably why they consider themselves gods. Could it be any different?
there are full 3D visual reconstructions of these palaces, statues, temples and monuments. You can find it on RU-vid : then look a these and confront it with the actual places and wonder!
Thank you for doing something I could not do back in 1969. My only trip to Rome, and I ran out of time before I could get to this place and explore it. You have taken me "on a trip" today . . . a long awaited one!!!
Excellent. very complete and with great technical quality. I thank you very much for allowing me, from my distant (from Europe) country, to know (and in detail) one of the most important (and least widespread) places of the City that dominated and civilized the Mediterranean Sea and all its coasts, a feat that no other country, not even a city, has achieved in history. Congratulations
Thank you so much for this. I’ve been fascinated with Ancient Rome for years and have always wished I could explore the ruins, particularly the Palantine. This is the best strait up POV walkthrough I’ve seen of the palace and the closest I’ve been so far!
Hey, You're welcome. Yeah, I figure I'll leave myself out of the videos and just try to show what you'd see if you walked through on your own. Let me know if there are any ruins or any sites you'd like to see and I'll try to go there. Thanks for watching.
ProWalks Awesome, sounds good. This might be a dumb question, but is any of the Domus Aurea open to the public? I would absolutely love to see that! Is it at all possible to shoot there?
Hey, so I just walked more of Rome this last weekend I wandered through part of Domus Aurea. It is open but I just walked the lower part near the road going past the Colosseum. I wasn't too impressed though. It just seemed unkept and several ruins had fences around them. I videoed the walk but like I said, I didn't walk too much of it.
ProWalks Yeah from everything I’ve read and seen, it’s almost entirely underground as it was stripped and filled in by Vespasian and his successors after Nero’s death. The Colosseum and Baths of Trajan were built on top of it. Parts of it not currently being excavated have been open to public, but not sure if they still are. Would be cool to video though, if they let you. It’s supposed to be very well preserved having been buried for so long!
My goal in Rome 1974 was to see the Colloseum; Forum and the Vatican. When I saw the depth/length of the Forum, I knew I would be out of time for that area. Did not know about Palatine Hill, and wow, what an impression you have given with this tour! Thanks. I doubt I will ever get back again. A coworker told me of the Pantheon before my trip. Lucky me to get there. Hope you have done it.
Hey, thanks for watching! Yeah, the first time I went to Rome, I missed a lot in the Forum area. Yes, my Rome walk includes the Pantheon..but it was one of the first walks I filmed for the channel. I filmed a new Rome walk but haven't posted it up yet. I did just post up a new Roman Forum & Palatine Hill walk here --> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SkCV7czZq6U.html
Hey Katie, Thanks again! That is really nice to hear. I hope you do get to visit someday......on a non-crowded day. In the meantime, I'll keep posting up videos. Thanks for watching!
Hey Mike.. you've been following my channel now for a while....so if feel i can ask you this. What would you think if I were to start a Gofundme to help me buy a video editing laptop? Would that be seen favorably or not? Over the next two months I'll be taking several 8-10 hour bus rides for work each weekend... And this summer I'll be traveling a lot. Right now i can only edit when i am at home on my desktop. Any thoughts? Thanks!
God bless you for filming this. I was supposed to be in Rome this month, but not for Covid. So bummed. Your video allowed me to pretend i was truly there. Again, thanks so very much!
Thank you, mille grazie! I went on this walk several years ago and my iPhone Rick Steves' podcast gave the tour backwards, so I was disoriented throughout. This was superb!
Thanks for this tour. I have recently completed an on-line course of the Palatine through Sapienza Universita di Roma. This virtual tour was a real treat to see.
I didnt realise how vast this was and alot of walking too! Thank you for all the information you edited onto this..it really helps to understand a lot more..and when I eventually go myself, I know what to look out for!
WOW! Thankyou! I've wanted to see that for decades! It really must have been magnificent when it was in use and beautifully decorated. I can only imagine.
Wow i've never seen this, i absolutely love it. Realizing that the Roman civilization had evolved brick architecture to more sophisticated design than anything we do today. Those multi level, highly customized palace is marvelous even as a ruin. It must have been amazing even in the first few centuries. I wonder who lived there after the fall of roman civilization. between 2nd and 10th century must have been occupied by all kind of unknown decadent and derelict little rulers whose name never made it to us. There surely is still some undiscovered treasure room that never got discovered. But these fine flat brick collossal architecture is more beautiful than anything i have seen. If i could change society, i'd want us to built houses like this. Yeah i can see all my grammar mistake but i'm going to leave them. Nobody is supposed to be perfect in their 3rd tongue.
Ok, my art is going to be placed in the Palatine Hill.... Should I make a painted version of Domitian's statue? Nah lets make a cartoon bear defecating.
Grazie mille. Another great walk. I was pleased to see the lower levels of the palace have been opened. When I was last in Rome they were closed. Pity the Houses of Augustus and Livia were closed again. The frescoes in Augustus library are magnifico. I would always vist the Palatine early in the morning before the tour buses arrived. Deserted. it was the most bellissima walk in Roma.
Yeah, that sounds nice to be able to walk around there with few people. I would like to go there again. I read an article recently saying a new place has been opened to the public.
Really??? A bear taking a dump right smack in the middle of such an amazing, historical sight as this?? Someone lost there mind allowing them to put this 'art' exhibit there.
AK FOX Leftist governments don't care about historical sites and art. They care about anything that has nothing to do with art and history. They're degenerates.
I can't thank you enough for this. I likely will never get the chance to make it to Rome and actually see all of this firsthand This was just spectacular to take in.
Yet another thanks from greatful viewers ..we are going to italy this May and your videos are the best resource for what to see and the scale of it all from pompei and this incredible place that I had barely heard of
This is amazing! I was going to book Rome to see the Roman ruins but im just going to keep watching this now til know every single brick and layout of the Palatine, im going to tell everyone l was there and describe it to them like l was from this awesome video, you have saved me thousands of Euro! Thank you!
I was there at the hill 3 yests age in March. It was chilly but clear and beautiful. The art sucked. The view overlooking the forum is memorable. Good video from Sacramento
Your tours are amazing, such a good job, thank you for taking the time to film them, to edit them and to research them. The texts are perfect. I've been there twice and had no idea of all these facts. Funnier text: Maybe you can explain this to me? (Creepy Mickey Mouse pooping), lol.
To do a walk like this I suggest one should be fit and healthy. I have been to the Palatine twice before many years ago and only had time to walk part of it. If I went today I don't think I could manage even what I did then due health issues. Also, make the Palatine your main focus of the day, visit the Colosseum and Fori another day. Thank for your great presentation, I learnt a lot
I am so glad you mentioned that it was modern art on display during the tour. I saw the space capsule and thought to myself “Why in the hell would someone put something like that in these ruins...it really detracts from the feel of the place.” I’m so glad it’s not permanent, lol
This is amazing. Thank you so much for your outstanding presentation. 😁 I went there but I didn't know what was what, now I know. Also thank you for keeping the natural sounds and the closed captions with the descriptions. You did an amazing job. Does anyone know where I can see a video showing what it would look like. A recreation of what it may have looked like back then? This is the best channel to watch while experiencing the Coronavirus pandemic
ProWalks I really enjoyed it, also you are helping me to have a new whole perspective i can’t afford a plane ticket and im writing an historical novel between Egytp and Rome. So thanks so much again! You have a new subscriber
It seems to be made from small stones and bricks, what an incredible feat of engineering, the Romans were truly amazing from this point of view. AND so much is till standing, that cannot be said for many modern buildings!
So much of ancient Rome is missing on this reality tour. Roof tops, walls, porches all missing. Time, vandalism, erosion has taken its toll on this once magnificent city. Good to the see the site of the Circus Maximus which predates many of the structures shown on this video tour. Plans of it were laid down early in the 6th century BC by one of its king's Tarquin Priscus. Senators were allowed to build wooden stands on the site to watch horses, athletic events etc. Over time it evolved into a gigantic marble structure the likes of which was never seen previously in empires of the past.
Neato. Just got back. Didn’t see all this in the forum. But glad u explained it all. Very good.it’s so hard to get a visual of it all. To me there was no symmetry. They just plopped crap all over the place.
Outstanding in every way, including the historical commentary! This is presented a bit too fast though, since I had to pause the video almost every time to finish reading the commentary
That would be an awesome use for virtual reality: we would put on VR glasses that would show the building reconstructions on the very place they were. There are some technical difficulties, like having location precision in the order of centimeters, but it’s feasible.
Prowalk tour is like myself walking along undisturbed by sound and background music. The sub titles are easy to read. Details are often missed by tourists in the rush to see everything.
I lived in Rome and did this Tour for guests from Canada, one time was with a couple when the Art(Pfffft!) was displayed. We all commented on the Bear.
I've always wanted to visit Rome but have ut it off for years because I lived in London and tried to avoid vacationing in major cities. When we can travel again I'll put it high on my list. Life is short and I need to "see Rome and die."
thank you for keeping the video visit as authentique as possible, not by polluting it with silly background music. it amazes me how little has been left from the Roman empire in comparison with Greek or Egyptian culture, even Minoan culture on Crete has more standing up today than Tiberius and Augustus period has. modern times/cultures have for sure ravaged and plundered a lot of beautiful Roman artwork and buildings.
