I head to the woods with cat toys and good food for raccoons. I have 3 dog toys tied to a rope filled with cookies and the raccoons play. I also brought along some cat toys. Lots of baby raccoons surround me while I discuss 3 different Hollywood representations of Paleolithic humans in the movies. I discussed the 1984 movie Iceman with the incredible performances by John Lone. Also, my favorite "B-movie": Luggage of the Gods -1983. And the Sans People within the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy -1980.

One of my favorite movies is " Last of the Dogman" toward the end of the movie in a modern day set up they find a tribe of Indians living in the Oxbow middle of the mountains nobody knew was there. That's where I'd like to live.

I wouldn't try picking up a baby. Course I have never touched any of mine. Not even Bruiser. He touches me. The babies here do not know me yet. They will come out more when they are older. Ghost's five are very small. Smokes are bigger but she only had 4. Egads! Went from 3 to 12 now. My son is not happy with our growing numbers. However, the boys moved on and don't see any but Bruiser and occasionally Braveheart comes with Bruiser. 😊❤❤

On Great Raccoons and Hygiene: The Great Raccoons were always, of course, fastidiously clean creatures to begin with -- but with the coming of "Oonsday" - when they emerged to the world - the sapient Great Raccoons quickly adopted human bathing methods, adoring hot showers and baths and then being blow-dried afterwards, or curling in front of a warm fire and being towelled dry by a human friend. No matter where they are, a Great Raccoon will always have among his possessions some soap, bottles of scentless shampoo and conditioner, and a grooming kit for ensuring their fur is neatly trimmed and that their claws are filed and chamfered to avoid accidentally scratching human friends. Rejecting the notion of being disease carriers, anti-tick, anti-flea, and mosquito repellent is part of their everyday carry, too, as well as medicine for roundworm. Bathing and showering is near strictly adhered to on a weekly basis, or even more frequently such as if a Great Oon is working at a Mine, or factory with high risk of airborne dust and dirt -- even if PPE is worn and not a speck gets on the fur they will bathe near-religiously to avoid the stigma of being called 'pests' or 'vermin.' A young Great Raccoon will bathe and groom, then go to an Oon Doctor for vaccinations - almost as a rite of passage - before seeking out a human companion or family.

Raccoons have very thick fur, no doubt to stop them being bitten by bugs of any kind. It really annoys me that people talk about rabies and raccoons in the same sentence. There are plenty of animals who have a higher incidence of rabies.

Aw, Raccoon Paradise! Get a canvas or tent Swag and stash it somewhere here; a nice thick thing that'll cover the ground; you can pop a sleeping bag and pillow on it, like what you had on the Patio when you were laying down with them there! This is just so nice, Raccoons all around, someone working on the tetherball, checking out the toys... Li'l baby plopped on his butt...! Brazen Cutie digging in your pack, there, sweet girl needs her cookie fix! OMG, Missy working the tetherball and THE BABY GOT THE TOY! Raccoons everywhere, sweeties! Feed the Oons well, for tomorrow we die due to mosquito diseases and loss of blood! Qa'pla!

You may make me try something like this at least once in my life (except instead of Racoons, and the small animals I would like to maybe try it with the stinky skunks but I know I don't have a chance to try this anytime soon due to limited funds and area 😅 but it's just a thought/plan I want to go for at some point)

I’ve been watching a lot of videos about ancient humans lately. I’m fascinated by Homo Naledi ~ they might have had fire because scientists are finding their bones deep in dark caves.

I've watched specials on Naledi, too. It is amazing the lengths they went to to bury the dead. Perhaps some of the first signs of religious beliefs?

6:05 ❤ I watched a documentary years ago, this guy wanted to earn the trust of a pack of lions ( males, females, and little ones ) it took him over 2 years, they actually allow that man to be among them, on many occasions he will seat next to them as they eat their hunt, it was very scary how the males looked at him like saying , you are getting to close, back off, but they did accep him, it was just beautifull, I try finding it on youtube but couldn't

Do you remember Timothy Treadwell? The grizzly man. It worked out wonderfully for him till it didn't and he was eaten. Sometimes I worry myself that I will forget they are truly wild and there will be a painful mistake. It takes 100's of hours and patience to pull off animal connections like that. I watched a documentary on PBS about a man who lived with wild deer that accepted him into the herd.

Yes Oonsday I know about the grizzly man, and what an amazing story about that deer man wow, it's not like we are dealing with big animals Oonsday 😆 That scares me a bit, I think it's wonderfull that this precious raccoons have accepted you into their world, raccoons are amazing, sociable , loving, playfull, etc,, I love them so much!

Quest for fire, 1981. 10000 BC, 2008 (this one mixes historical facts in an irritating way...) I've seen the Iceman many times. I like it, but I find a problem with the portrayal of the Iceman. The Paleolithic era started about 3.3 million years ago and ended about 12,000 years ago. The ice age started about 2.5 million years ago and ended about 10,000BC. When the ice age started, even the Homo Erectus didn't exist. When it end, only Homo Sapiens/modern human was left. The icemen in the movie is supposed to be a Homo Sapiens. The problem is that the modern intellect/behavioral foundation of our species/Homo Sapiens developed approximately about 50,000 years ago, and it hasn't changed much or not at all since then. I don't like the portrayal of the Iceman's because, for me, it distorts/degrades the intellect/behavioral sophistication of our ancestors/ice people, who had the same intellectual abilities like us, but lived in a very difficult and challenging world. Otherwise, I love the concept and story of this movie. It is estimated that first people arrived in North America about 30,000 years ago, and they were both icemen and paleolithic people, oldest ancestors of Native Americans. Raccoons were hunted, but also had their place in tribal religions and mythology, had significance in tribal spiritual culture. I don't know anything about raccoons held as pets, but I wouldn't be surprised if some priests/shamans kept them for ritual purposes, and for petting too... 😁😁😁

I love your knowledge on the matter, and I, too, enjoy studying ancient humans and relatives. Professor John Hawks tought at UW Madison Palentology and specializes in Neanderthal. I enjoy his lectures for The Great Courses and PBS special about Homo Naledi. I still find The Iceman portrayal intriguing and acted out brilliantly.

@@OONSDAY I appreciate your interests and points of view. Yes, I agree, acting is fantastic in this movie. I just wish the iceman looked more like us. 😆 If these people could, they would have used teeth whitening stips... 😂 I haven't seen that special on Homo Naledi, I'm going to check it out. Thank you Mr. Oons for interesting subjects that you bring up! The picture of these tiny babies playing on you and around you while you are discussing movies is worthy of a movie itself, definitely a subject for a great movie script! 😁😁😁

Well I hope you are emptying those waters 💧 bowls 🥣 before refilling. If not that's why you have more mosquitoes than you should. Because they breed in still waters 💧 even though the raccoons keep washing their hands it's still relatively still water 💧 most of the time. And if your gonna pick up one of those baby's remember to do it by the scruff of the neck just like the moms do And hold them tight as you gently petting them and relax your grip on the back of the neck. And don't forget the extra treats 😊😊

Way to cute!! Bless your heart for bringing them water!!! I worry you will get bit. Did you get a rabies shot? Not judging or criticizing, just curious if you also worry about that. Love your videos. Thank you for always sharing your adventures with us!! ❤ 🦝🦝 insects cannot get,carry or transmit rabies to humans so no need to worry about that
@OONSDAY

I'm not too worried about rabies. Cases are rare in my state, and I know my raccoons too well. I'm glad mosquitoes can't transmit it. Bats are the biggest carriers here.
