Back in my old country (Egypt), ful medames is an ubiquitous staple, and considered one of our national dishes. It’s a pleasure to see that this dish is also representative of Palestinian cuisine, and that it’s one of the many common ties of kinship that our peoples and cultures share. Thank you for this marvelous recipe and presentation of this simple yet delicious and nutritious Palestinian dish. Enjoy it, as we say in Egypt, _bil hana wil shifa_ (with joy and healing)!
I learned to make this from my Palestinian boyfriend many years ago. The way he showed me is a tin of small fava beans simmered with garlic, cumin, lemon juice, salt & pepper, then served with a glug of olive oil, handful of fresh parsley, and eaten with hands with flat bread, chunks of fresh tomato, and olives.
Palestinian cuisine. How wonderful to have access to such food - not only for the taste & nutrition but also for the ancient history of Palestine. I long to visit Palestine, free & proud. Thank you.
Love Palestinian food....tasted this ..some of my Palestinian friends used to bring for me. Thank you for sharing Hope your family is safe. Love from South Africa.
Alf sahtein and welcome to the channel :) We know what's up, Ful is the BEST. I didn't know it was the national dish of Sudan-- thank you for sharing that!
Huh I never knew that thought it was Umfitit or Sabaroag. I find it a bit annoying that its hard to learn more about some countries food and how to make them like Sudan for example.
It is not our national dish. it just happens to be the closest thing to a normal meal that Sudanese families can afford after 30 years of US sanctions...
I made this for my family and they were almost confused by how delicious it was. They went from “Oh nice, a bean dip” to “what the heck is in this, this is incredible” over the course of a single bite. Delicious, nutritious, and the new (to us) flavor of fava beans. Thank you so much!
Shut up and stop bringing politics. She doesn't care for people's fight for land. She's just trying to make a decent living like any and all educated with great brains should do!
Sorry out of content. How is your relatives and families in Palestine, hope they are ok. May Allah protect Palestinians d and give them victory very soon.
Girl, you make me feel that cooking (especially vegetarian) may be the way to help people of all race and religions to get to know and appreciate each other’s culture.
@Oz - I see where you are coming from, but I think what you said is on an international governmental level, and I agree with you when politics gets involved things gets messier. But it doesn't have to be this way between individuals. I think individually it is much easier to resolve our differences if we are willing to talk it out. The first steps toward resolving conflicts is always getting a mutual understanding of each other and actually starting good discussions. In democratic countries people elect their governments. If the people themselves are willing to discuss the conflict that is separating them, and understand the differences between them and their so called "enemies," the people could potentially have say in elections that choose the most adequate candidate. And what better way to start that than sitting with a bowl of good food and talk it out? Again, this is solely my opinion.
Love the beautiful, positive energy that you spread! Please do more videos, you've encouraged my teenage daughter to rediscover her Palestinian roots, thank you!
As a young Palestinian raised away from Palestine, finding your channel with all the foods my Jidoh made for me and my family has given me something great to show my family! Thank you so much!!
This looks delicious ❤ Thank you for sharing the recipe, can’t wait to try this out! Sending you and all Palestinians so much love right now - hope your family is ok 😔
"God forbid it gets packaged the same way in the stores as hummus" as an Iraqi who has used fava beans to make tashreeb bagilla to ensure I don't wake up Sunday morning after with a hangover before church I feel drunk me would benefit from a pre-packaged version lol
I love making tashreeb bagila with fresh olive oil on top instead of frying the eggs in butter, sunny side up eggs and tons of fresh cucumber/green +white onion/tomato. 😋 I'm Lebanese but became obsessed with this breakfast over time, Iraqi/Assyrian food is beyond underrated.
Just found you ❤ going to a Palestinian restaurant tonight w my friends and will look for Ful on the menu! And of course I will try your recipe at home soon too 😊 I went plant based last year and love trying new dishes! I can't imagine what you, your family and your community must be feeling or going through right now. As an American, I am horrified by the decisions my country has made since 1948 in the continued oppression, violence and now genocide of Palestinians. I'm so deeply sorry ❤ Free Palestine 🇵🇸
Cruel you, are. I woke up early and stumbled across this video. This happens to be one of my favorite dishes and watching you prepare it made my mouth water. It will be on the table in our home tonight. 🙏🙏🙏
Prob my fave snack food youtuber! you make me proud to be Palestinian ! probably the only popular one I have come across some far. unfortunately I cant find fava beans but I will try this with garbanzo beans!
You nailed it. Amazing! Made it twice.... actually typing this while it is cooking! The roasted tomatoes, Yes! Really adds to it. Fresh sagnak bread and your soft boiled eggs.... our new favorite. Thank you
@@Larkeshet Nadia prepared it the Palestinian way. Lots of Palestinians specially those from cities on the Mediterranean, like Yafa , have mingled with the Egyptians and vice versa. We have similar cultures regardless of the etymology of the names of dishes.
@@najatskitchen well. Its kinda like an American from NY gives a recipie for pizza. NY style pizza is a respected and unique version, but pizza is still Italian and thats just common knowlege for most people. Good video of a spesific style of an Egyptian dish, which arrived to that region probably with the arab conquests of the region circa the 7th century...
@@Larkeshet Palestinians have been living in Palestine for centuries. They are a mix of different ethnicities not including jews. Save your attempts my friend!
For some reason the algorithm recommended this video to me (and it looks like quite a few other folks) just yesterday. I’m officially obsessed and will be purchasing some fava beans to make this asap. Subscribed for more recipes and your lovely personality :)
This looks great, and I am excited to try it. Also happy to know that there's a Palestinian dip I can make without needing to pull out my food processor.
Never seen you before, and subbed in the first 40 seconds. I’m middle eastern-American and I love learning from/bonding with my Arab-American and Slavic-American friends. It seems like loads of us have shared experiences and favorite foods!
lol This comment reminds me of how everyone thinks everything is Mexican and then we say it is Puertorican, or Cuban, or Spanish! lol I feel you! I hate when people say it’s Mexican when we do the same in Puerto Rico! So it isn’t Mexican it’s everywhere!
Miss ful so much. My favorite when I was in Jeddah. I just top it with fried garlic and olive oil. Sadly, it's pricey here in the Philippines cause it's imported.
Lived in a shared house in London 40 years ago, there was an Egyptian guy there that made Ful Mudammas for us sometimes. It was nowhere near as pretty as yours is but, l still remember how good it was. Will definitely be trying this. Thanks.
The roasted cherry tomatoes make this divine! Thanks for helping me create a little bit of Palestine in LDN!! ( PS : I wish RU-vid’s algorithms had punched up your channel 4 years ago!!!)
Was wondering what is Fava beans so I searched up for translation in my native language, Malay. If you’re Malay and wondering what is Fava beans, it is Kacang Parang (literal translation: Machete Beans). Now I can go find these in my local grocery store! Excited to try!
Thanks for great video. I will make this. All my Palestinian friends eat olives, pita bread and white cheese for breakfast and tea? BTW, this is a very healthy recipe!
I’m actually trying this garlic thing tomorrow inshallah - my mom just made a batch of foul today 😋 On a side note: I’ve heard that some people put charcoal in the middle of it to give it a smokey flavor, never tried it though 😄
I truly enjoy your videos, cooking style, recipes, and delightful and infectious personality. Always a pleasure! I hope you continue with this endeavor. I haven't seen anything new from you in quite some time. Hope to see you again soon! Thanks for sharing!
I am a garlic lover to the extreme. I'm not vegan and I can skip meat for weeks if I can learn how to make a different vegan dish every day. Plus you have my dream kitchen, and all those spices!!! This dish got my attention but it wasn't complete until you said the word onions! Love onions anyway, cooked or raw! I used to go to a middle eastern restaurant where I live and I was hooked with spices, garlic, onions and pimentos! Thank you Nadia for sharing this recipe.
I'm not vegan either but we do be using that algorithm to our favor ;) It's a great protein and everyone loves it, and I find it fun to play with a plant based palette. Sahtein!
Hello from 🇨🇦. Just made it. It is indeed quick, easy and SO delicious 😋. I only had ground cumin, so I used 3/4 of a teaspoon. Next time I'll use a bit more. Also, I will try it with some chili paste; I'm sure it will be amazing. Thanks Nadia for sharing your recipe!
I just made this for the first time and it was divine. Thank you so much for introducing me to this deliciousness. These days we have to bring the world into our apartments as we can't go out and see it.
I'll make this cause I have always avoided favas cause they seem dry to me...but this recipe will not result in dryness! Charming lady who teaches this. Sending to my daughter who will also definitely makes this as well.
I’m so happy of this recommendation. We did a march for Palestine the other day and we will continu to BDS. I am so happy now that i have discovered a palestinien channel. Stay strong 🔥🔥
Here in Italy italians also eat fava beans but never whole beans and the recipes are not so rich of spices and taste as this one! I will try it for sure :) PS: Keep your olive oil in a dark place or it will oxidate
If I told you how many alternative beans and years I've spent trying to replicate the fuul I ate in Egypt you would be on the floor laughing...so I give up and will use your recipe, period.
Aloha Nadia from beautiful Honolulu ! I tried your recipe and it’s amazing! I had to really search for the fava beans. We don’t have any Arabic stores and even Whole Foods didn’t have. I finally found small Indian store that had it! Followed all the steps including roasting the cherry tomatoes. Served w pita and white wine. Mahalo for your enthusiasm and great recipe!
You haven’t yet started the actual recipe and I’m hooked! I so appreciate your dialogue and history/culture lessons to go with your recipes. It’s the one happy thing that came out of the pandemic: people learning excitedly at home, alone about our global friends and their culinary prides. Sharing is caring! Shalom, salut, cheers from Canada!
