Love your channel. When I was a kid, we had a Palestinian nanny. She would make these a lot for us and add in Feta. I remember being so incredible happy to see them waiting on me when I got off the school bus. I've never actually made them myself which is strange, I guess. But I am defiantly going to now and it'll be really special because I have children of my own now so I can share a special part of my childhood with them.
Okay, watching your videos makes me really emotional. My family is Syrian-Armenian, and we're losing a lot of the older folks who can share stories and recipes. I moved halfway across the country a couple years ago, so I can't even see my family (plus, ya know, pandemic) or taste any of this food unless I make it myself. Your channel is full of flavors and foods that are so familiar to me, and you make these recipes so accessible. I can't say thank you enough. 🇵🇸🇦🇲🇸🇾 Also...we put lemon in our spinach pies! Was so excited to hear you say it at the end 😂
You had me at the end with these, then, when you mentioned feta cheese..Oh ! my gosh....Now I won't be able to sleep until I've made them, thank you recipes are really good...
Haha, My goodnesses You're all energy!!! So hyped! I can relate to Talking with your hand mannerisms ❤ Loved the dancing, especially at the end, when you said... Let's uh lets uhhh lets hang out! 😂
Awsm - thanks so much - I've always wanted to make these! I used to buy these from a Lebanese takeaway in Brisbane, and probably consumed a few thousand of them over the years!
@@NadiaGilbert I will! I always wondered what the secret ingredient was - there was a flavour I just couldn't put my finger on - I reckon it was sumac!
I have lots of spinach from my vegetable garden, also I think middle eastern food is the best in the world, so I’ve now tried this recipe. The dough was great but I might reduce the sugar a little, the filling excellent and my family have enjoyed it. Thanks a lot for this, I’m now going to try some more of your recipes.
ahh so unbelievably excited to make these! I'm chronically ill but your videos are making me enthusiastic about cooking again, something that's becoming increasingly difficult for me. JazakAllahu Khair 💓
Sending love from Santa Fe, NM. Elhumdolillah, you have saved me from turning ordinary food into extraordinary meals during a pandemic. The whole family gets involved and makes the creative cross section. If you haven't covered making khanafeh, please do! Thank you lol ~ Mi'raj
Awww my gosh !! MashAllah these are my absolute favorite!! My husband had them for the first time for Ramadan last year(he’s Venezuelan) & loves them too... we would break our fast with them.. we would buy them from an old adorable little Palestinian woman !!! I am definitely gonna try these
Tasted this pie from a Arabic ladies takeaway in Glasgow for the first time, it was scrumptious, She also had made mince lamb & potatoe ones which had also, thanks for sharing. At least I know how to make for myself now, as I don't get through to this takeaway area very often .. 🙏🏽
I think I heard you mention Sumac in one of your videos and I'm very interested in it. I understand that it tastes somewhat citrus. It's being used in some fragrances for that reason but rarely. There were huge plants of Sumac when I was a child where I'm from as we were looking to pick wild blueberries and was told it was poisoness. But I know now it's not. I'm so very happy that I found your channel. Thank you, Nadia I share your videos always.
I’m making these today, I’ll let you know! UPDATE: Just came out the oven, still hot, REALLY GOOD. Inside mine I put bell peppers onions and spinach obv but some of them i put parmesan. Dipped it in some hummus, tastes amazing. I also cut the recipe and made it a lil smaller
Ok I NEED to try this in the next couple of weeks... I'm just missing the 7-spice and sumac but I know where to get them. I noticed in the dough video you made a meat pie and a potato-filling pie as well, but I can't find the potato video! Was it taken down? Thanks so much for these videos! Your personality, the energy you exude, your passion for these culinary delights really motivate me to try new fabulous dishes, and it makes me want to travel internationally more often. Hope you're well!
Thank you so much! You can also make your own seven spice. There is a potato pie video!! I was in the middle of releasing this series when the pandemic started, and for some reason I felt the need to not post it and instead focus on more pantry friendly content to help people at home. It needs to come out though, I am going to be putting it up soon!
@@NadiaGilbert That's great news! I thought I had lost my chance to watch the video lol. I turned on the notif bell so I'll know when it's posted. Looking forward to it!
Baking right now, it should be ready in a few minutes! Spinach reduces so much, I had less than you did. I didn't use the same dough as you did. My first try so excited to eat them with boyfriend :) I have sumac and I love it!
I tried them tonight, and in a word? Beautiful. These are so good! Also the dough... you aren't kidding. I'm actually gluten free, and with one tweak, (3 TBSP ground Psyllium added to the flour blend,) it came together beautifully! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the kind words! A whole food diet & water has a lot to do with good skin I'm sure, but in terms of skincare mine uses very simple products and focuses on high moisturization. An olive oil cleanser, sometimes a sake toner and moisturizing with jojoba oil and pure snail.
@@NadiaGilbert Thanx! My friends have all been complaining about horrible their skin is now from all the mandatory washing recently. I'll probably start with the jojoba oil.
Just made these last night! I used whole wheat flour in place of the all purpose flour and they came out great! I didn't have enough spinach though so I was only able to make 4... 1 bag was not enough lol buying 3 bags next time!
The meat pies that you can make with this same dough are wonderful, I have a recipe on my channel - it uses beyond but the recipe/method does not change to use beef or lamb. You could also serve this with some grilled marinated meats and that would be lovely, always!
Oh my gosh, these look amazing, but, I had a random idea...what about taking this feeling and combining it with some already prepared Lib Koosa and have that combination as the filling? I bet that would taste so bomb!!!! 😋😋😋
@@NadiaGilbert i will try it today with egg and let you know how it turns out. I also usually don't cook down thee spinach but it ends up opening up in the oven sometimes. I guess from the trapped heat.
@@Bashirbros moisture/heat is a big culprit of them opening up in the oven, I think cooking them down, cooling them and draining the liquid that is in them really helps with that --- also you can pack more spinach in there :)
@@NadiaGilbert i tried 2 methods. cooking them down, and squeezing some liquid out of the filling. I got very similar results. I also brushed some with egg and some with olive oil and found the edd wash gave a much nicer finish. crispy and shiny. I owe it all to you. Have you considereed doing a live cook-along sort of thing? It might be interesting to get to meet some of your viewers if you do a zoom session or something.
@@NadiaGilbert Her email is mahalia.b93@googlemail.com and she receptive never know she could give you ideas or you could give ideas....thats how the world turns round..peace
Nice organic sunflower oils now, thanks for being anti-canola..I don’t know why anyone likes that! Toasted pine nuts in there? I think my Lebanese neighbors gave me some of these and they had pine nuts in there. Easy to burn..whenever toasting pine nuts, put a heavy glass bowl in the freezer (or fridge if it’s delicate) and chill well, when you have the pine nuts toasted, throw them in the frozen or well chilled bowl and stir to stop their cooking..they have a lot of oil that makes them continue cooking off heat unless you take steps to stop them from over browning..an egg wash before baking would make these look a lot prettier..just my opinion..
@@NadiaGilbert yeah I wrote the zzz comment before I saw the whole video, when I saw you adding your grandmas mix, not so bland lol. Nevertheless your presenting, the style in which you cook and the video editing just makes the dishes look amazing, you’re a natural, but when I’ve cooked them they were a little on the bland side.. not for the south Asian palate. Learn a Pakistani dish, title it “Pakistani” too and you’ll get millions of subscribers.
@@LogicPak Hahaha yeah watch the whole video before you call my food bland!! 😂 Compared to Pakistani food this is certainly less hot/spicy! Maybe "bland" relative to that intensity and heat but not a bland cuisine. It takes good ingredients, lots of time and care given to them, and high quality spices.
@@NadiaGilbert “lots of time and care given to them” so basically in need of a woman’s touch. Hmm Need a Palestinian wife! I’d have asked but I don’t think you swing this way. Lol :p
@@LogicPak Lol I appreciate the kind intention behind this comment even though it's not about the gender of the person. Idk what you mean by swing this way but hey, you can be your own Palestinian Wife and gift yourself the food!
Thanks for proving every Palestinian's point that our very existence apparently has to be political! Food has always been political. Says more about you than me that you're triggered by my heritage. Hope you find peace and the empathy to have compassion for people who are apparently different than you. Salam
