So, does this same process work for FE8? Or does FE8 need different tools? Doing an altered class run is kinda bad when the characters don't carry over their palettes and instead use a default.
Ghaaaaaast, how do you insert palettes into FE8? I tried doing this exact same thing for my FE8 randomized run and it didn't work, Seth kept his generic summoner palette. Eirika and Ephraim's names aren't even on the list on FE BSPalette too, so...yeah, I'm at a loss here
II dont know how but my BS palette assemler seems to be an older version than yours? I cant choose the game or the palette entry etc. I followed the link and downloaded it from serenes forest so i dont know what i did wrong :/
So I’ve randomized FE8 and I want to change the color of Gilliam because he’s been randomized into a Thief. I’ve followed all of the instructions but it never changes the colors in-game when I save the rom settings and I don’t know why. Help?
Ok, so I keep doing very thing the video says. Except I am g a Fe8 randomizer.And Knoll has taken the place of Eirika as a Myrmidon. He has the generic Myrmidon palette and I keep trying to change it(like in the video)and it stays the same. What am I doing wrong?

Aaaa, I try to download FE Recolor and it says the link from serenes forest was blocked and all it says it maybe its a firewall or antivirus software has blocked it. Tried a few things but not really sure how to fix it.
Ok, after finishing my FE7 run with refurbished sprites, I wanted to go on to FE8 but I have run into some problems. None of their palettes look glitchy! Just blue and generic. I assumed I could still edit them, but it doesnt seem to be that way. 1. My Lute has become a promoted monster, and yet the monster is still normal colored, as if it isnt even trying to read her palette. When I try to edit it anyway, it say "An unexpected error has occured: Indext was outside the bounds of the array." 2. What about characters like Fado? He has only a promoted sprite, so how would I edit his unpromoted version? Am I doing something wrong? Or is it just impossible mess with palettes in FE8?
And I found slight problem, I was trying to edit my FE8 playtrough and its units, but as FE8 rendomized for SOME reason gets kind of "generic" palettes for units, I can't actually edit it, it simply doesnt save up and units keep their "generic" palettes, I'm not really sure what to do with this one, got any ideas how to change it Ghast? (And yes, I tried FE7 and it worked just fine, so its FE8 problem)
I hope this gets answered. I randomized FE 8 and wanted to edit Myrrh's palette. But when I went into BS, I loaded my rom, browsed the paletes but couldn't find Myrrh's palette. It's listed nowhere. There are these two "???" palettes I found but none of them seemed to be Myrrh's palette as they lack red and yellow. I also tried to use Nightmare to find the pointer for the palette and use it instead. But to my surprise, Palettes aren't listed when you open an FE 8 rom even though they are for FE 7 roms (I was using the "character editor" module). So... how do you edit Myrrh's pallet in this thing?
I'm having some problems. I'm trying to change Seth from FE8 into a Mage Knight, and I've done everything as said in the tutorial, and he does have the right colors, but they're not in the right places. His cloak is red instead of yellow, and his hair is yellow instead of red. It's nothing to do with the generic palette, but the colors won't rearrange themselves when I press "extract palette entry."
Does editing the palettes cause that you are unable to modify the rom with nightmare anymore? I modified the palettes of my randomized fe7 rom and it seems that nightmare doesn't recognize this rom anymore :c
NEVERMIND: I just tried with a different randomized fe7 rom and I can edit the rom in nightmare AFTER editing the palettes, so I guess I just messed something up in the one rom I mentionned in the first comment ^^ My bad
3 years later and still relevant. Used it to fix a Knight Lord Guy and give him his glorious, green hair. (Because for some reason guys default sprite hair is cyan?
I found the applications on Serenes Forest awhile ago, they are such a lifesaver, makes my randomizer runs much more enjoyable when the units actually look "good". Anyways, not for me specifically, but do you have a randomizer tutorial for the people who don't know how to? I know the application used isn't that complicated, but i'm sure some people wouldn't mind a tut on it.

Can anyone tell me how to import pallete changes to a phone emulator. I just wanna mess around and make a horse emblem playthrough of FE8 master version. Can I use drop box or something I want to make Forde a deeper crimson paladin with a black horse. Make Kyle have a darker green I also want to make a deep blue Paladin instead of a lighter blue and make the horse silver. Franz can be black with a yellow steed.
Just downloaded all the hacking tools. I absolutely suck at it, but it's so much fun to make funny changes to enjoy and show my friends. thanks for introducing it to me and making these tutorials
Is it possible to edit portrait sprites and load them into the rom like this? I want to set up a randomized FE7 run where I modify the colors for the battle sprite but also fix up the portraits to match the new classes. I used to be a spriter maybe 4 or 5 years ago so it shouldn't be too hard.

So when I copy/paste/upload a portrait into Usenti, the colors change on the palette, making it near impossible to get the exact colors. Does anyone have a solution to this? I'm still new to all this!
So I've tried this on heath who became a nomad and it seems that skin and horse color are the same when I try to edit....? Is there no way around this?
A lot of GBAFE palettes will reuse skin color tones for a number of non-skin elements (especially the "White"). To change that would require you redraw the entire spritesheet and find a way around the color limit, which takes considerably more time and effort. If you're going the simple recolor route and don't like generic horse colors, the best you can do is try to come up with color schemes that do not ruin the face too much. Play it by feel in FERecolor and it shouldn't take too long. Like for example, what Staff of Ages did with fighter sprite, if you could either say it here in comments or make some quick tutorial on it I would really appreciate it, I tried looking into it and I found out you gotta use FEditor or something like that, but I'm not really sure how to work with it as I'm not really technical type

Koda Blue What I do is that I use the randomizer on my computer, randomize my roms on it and then send them To myself on gmail. Then I go on gmail on my phone and download the roms I send To myself on my phone ^^ I'm pretty sure there is no randomizer app on phones
ratioactive 414 not that, its just that the palette for the mugs uses a brighter outline shade, fe 7 at that, so the colors dont really feel natural with a darker outline
Mugs have light purple outlines and battle sprites have dark grey ones, to my knowledge. I don't really have to put up with palette organization(although I've memorized it) since all of the new battle animations in my hack are for exclusive classes. I don't know why they did that with portrait outlines anyway.
does anyone know how to change a units gender using this. i used this to design a palette for a female mage, but my character is a male mage in the game and i was wondering if i could change that
At least in FE7, male and female Mages are actually different classes in the game code. I believe the only differences are the animations they use, but I could be wrong. You could do something to change the unit's class.
I followed this method perfectly and all the promoted sprites are still messed up. Base classes are fine, and it's FE8 so I guess that's my problem. So bummed after spending hours for every character.
LegendaryInferno I was actually using this for palette editing in general since nothing else worked/made sense for me. But I got them all done, partially thanks to this tutorial.
Do the tutorial as normal. Open the rom in Nightmare and load the FE8 Palette Association Editors. In the first editor, match your character's base class and promotions to their randomized classes. Save. It's really that easy. If you have promotion mismatches (like say, a Warrior Natasha but a myrmidon Seth) you can even use the second PA Editor to reassign character palettes (so here, give Natasha's Valkyrie/Bishop palettes to promoted-Seth so he won't be stuck with generic colors after promotion).
