My pit mix has an inoperable adrenal gland tumor. She was diagnosed at 8 yrs. She started Palladia and was on it for quite some time but then the side effects (diarrhea, stmoxh problems became too much and was effecting her quality of life so we stopped it. She is now 11 yrs old and although the tumor grew after stopping it she is still with us!

My dog isn't tolerating Palladia, but we tried and are choosing to let her live with the disease now. She had very bad gastric issues and her quality of life wasn't good. 9kilo (35mg dose 3days per week and Omeprazole) I'm glad we tried and we have to live with our discission. Thank you for the video. We still would recommend trying.

My dog Jake was diagnosed with Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Surgeon after biopsy sent him home to die. Didn't listen and opted to go to the oncologist. He has been on palladia and piroxicam. He started on January 12 and is doing great. Tumor is gone, lung nodule is gone. Not bad side effects. His appetite is again veracious. We give him Cerenia on palladia nights and pepcid on the piroxicam nights just in case. He has other health issues but he has been doing awesome - and we are staying the course. It really is a miracle for him.

Thank you - Roseanne also has squamous cell carcinoma and will start Palladia tomorrow - I am scared to start but reading your comment is reassuring. Thanks

We use Palladia for 2 different dogs. One has an inoperable thyroid tumor. He has been on Palladia for about 6-7 months now. The mass has shrunk over 3 cm, which is amazing. Our other dog has an inoperable heart mass (chemodectoma). He has been on Palladia for about 3 months now. We had our follow-up echo today, and we are happy to say that his mass has shrunk a small amount! We are so thankful for our oncology team and Palladia!

Excellent podcast. My dog Toby (8yrs chocolate Labrador) had a high grade MCT removed August 2022 with evidence of some splenic and liver involvement. Commenced Palladia September 2022. Tolerated it pretty well and continues to take it after a break for a few months. Cancer currently in remission. Great drug administered in my case by a super team of oncologists in UCD Veterinary Hospital, Dublin, Ireland.

Thank you for this informative video and for sharing your experience. Regarding your point about Maximum Therapeutic Dose, is that the dose recommended on the bottle and you are suggesting that one should start on a lower dose since it is just as effective and less chance of side effects? My vet is just ordering the medication for my 12 yr old Bichon diagnosed with inoperable Pheochromocytoma with Caudal Vena Cava Invasion and the dosage was calculated using 3.25 mg/kg. Should we be starting at a lower dose?
@DogCancer
@DogCancer 2 часа назад
The Maximum Therapeutic Dose is the dose at which effects are seen with the fewest side effects. It's usually a little lower than was originally suggested, as Dr. points out in the video. Your veterinarian will be the best one to determine precisely what dose to give your dog, and you can ask them how they arrived at it. Every veterinarian will lower the dose or stop altogether if side effects become intolerable, though. The best dose is the one that gets results with as few side effects as possible, and that can vary from dog to dog

Thank you for this timely video! My vet oncologist recommended we start it as treatment for TCC and an adrenal/lymph node tumor in hopes it will treat both. Trying to absorb all the info I can!

So happy to have helped even just a little bit. Using Palladia in a case like your dog's makes a lot of sense, because it's going to possibly help limit the growth and spread of BOTH! Best of luck to you and your pup -- meanwhile, here's our article on TCC: www.dogcancer.com/articles/types-of-dog-cancer/bladder-cancer-in-dogs-including-transitional-cell-carcinoma/

We’ve just had a very extreme reaction to chemo (doxorubicin) and I am looking for this type of alternative. How do we try to see if this is a possibility and how do we access this?

what is the appropriate dose for a 40 kg dog
@DogCancer
@DogCancer Месяц назад
Hi! Dosing is always based on weight generally, but other factors will influence what dose your veterinarian recommends to start. Depending upon how your dog tolerates the drug, that might be increased or decreased over the course of taking it. 15:24 hi,my American staffy 34 kilo has a tumour in his nose,he has been on Palladia for about 8 weeks 3 times a week,my question is that his nose stills every now and again bleeds and when he sneezes bleeds a little,will this drug slow this down and how will I know at home it’s working? Dog is 11years old, has a great appetite and is acting normally.

Nasal tumors tend to bleed, so controlling that separately may help. This video might be useful for you, and be sure to check the show notes for links to our articles. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_S14JqR3dk8.html

@@oaksmowers as Dr. Duffy points out, there are no guarantees. And you will never know what would have happened if you hadn't started Palladia. In general, the goal in cancer treatment in dogs isn't to cure -- it's to buy time. If your dog seems to be doing well and the tumor isn't getting worse -- or isn't getting worse as fast as originally expected -- your veterinarian will probably count that as helping. Whether it feels that way to YOU is a different matter, right? Palladia has been used in lots of different tumors at this point, so as long as your dog is tolerating it and seems to be OK overall, that's probably going to be how you can tell. You can read our Palladia article for more insight into the hard numbers involved. www.dogcancer.com/articles/drugs/palladia-for-dogs/

Thank you for the video! Great information needed to ease my mind a little. My dog has been on Palladia and prednisone for a little over two weeks and I’m trying to figure out a homemade diet. We’ve made the switch but not sure she’s getting in every nutrient that is vital. There isn’t a animal dietitian in my area that our veterinarian can refer us to. I guess my only worry if that I’m not giving her all the nutrients she needs. What can we supplement with this drug or is there anything we should avoid? Can I give milk thistle and medicinal mushrooms?
@DogCancer
@DogCancer 4 месяца назад
Here's our article on Palladia that goes over the meds to avoid. Check with your veterinarian for your dog specifically though! www.dogcancer.com/articles/drugs/palladia-for-dogs/ For a multivitamin, a lot of us use EverPup, it's a great multi plus more. And here's our articles on milk thistle and medicinal mushrooms, both of which usually can be given with Palladia, however, it's always best to check with your veterinarian, of course: www.dogcancer.com/articles/supplements/medicinal-mushrooms-for-dogs/ www.dogcancer.com/articles/supplements/milk-thistle-for-dogs/

I may be able to help. I hear you regarding the lack of canine nutritionists. I was lucky to find one at a VCA hospital, 10 minutes from my house in Northern California 10 years ago to get a diet recipe for my 100 lb. Akita. Since then, I have tried twice (7 yrs ago and 3 yrs ago) to find another (as the 1st CN is no longer there). No luck. I will share with you the diet she gave me for my dog in case you find it helpful. BUT please keep in mind, I am not a vet and this is not a prescription for your dog. Also, it uses a Vet created pet multivitamin powder (Balance It) which a lot of vets in my area recommend because it was made by a vet at UC Davis Veterinary College, one of the leading Vet programs in the USA. I DO NOT have any affiliation with this company (or any of the other companies mentioned below) nor do I own stock (I think BalanceIt.com is a private company anyway). OK, now that that's out of the way... For a healthy, adult (grown) 100 lb. dog, each day feed this amount (can split recipe in half to feed in two meals if desired): 200 grams ground turkey, 93% fat free, cooked and fat drained. 125 gm white rice, long grain, cooked 125 gm brown rice, long grain, cooked 2 1/2 tsp Balance It Canine Plus 1/4 tsp NOW foods calcium carbonate powder 1/4 tsp Morton Iodized salt 2 capsules GNC Triple strength fish oil 1500 OR 1 Solgar Triple strength omega 3 950 mg Nutrient Summary: 754 calories per day, with 31.9% from protein, 32.9% from fat, and 35.1% from fat. You can add, for regularity, any of the followiny COOKED vegetables, but veggies should not comprise more than 10-15% of meal to avoid GI tract upset: broccoli, mushroom, spinach, peas, green beans, nori/seaweed, sweet potato. DO NOT use canned veggies as sodium content is too high and will damage your dog's kidneys. USE ONLY fresh or frozen veggies. For shiny coat, you can add 1-2 tsp. cooked "old fashioned" or steel cut oatmeal. DO NOT feed instant oatmeal and absolutely no flavored, sugared or artificially sweetened oatmeal. Just plain, cooked oatmeal. Hope this helps!

So my dog has Renal Lymphoma. We took out the kidney, no signs of metastasis.... So would this be an option for her even though she has lymphoma to help prevent other pop up tumors (presumably?)
@DogCancer
@DogCancer 4 месяца назад
Check with your veterinarian or oncologist -- it's not necessarily going to help with systematic cancers like lymphoma, but if they are only occurring in an organ ... maybe?

Has anyone tried using this drug for hepatocellular carcinoma (liver mass)? My 10 yo Irish Setter has had 3 removed so far, and now he has a fourth. We do not want to subject him to another surgery… 😢

Definitely ask your oncologist about this. According to Dr. Duffy, it's being used on many solid tumors, even ones that you wouldn't immediately think of.
