Three years old and I don't know if this information is useless. Some advice. Breaking down pallets is easier when they're not soaked. That said sometimes some types of pallets are easier to take apart when they're damp but not soaked. That first pallet would have a lot less breakage if you worked from the inside out. You're adding a lot of pressure on the inside lifting from the outside in. There is more play on the slats once the middle is lifted making the chances of splitting minimal. The second pallet and pallets like it are easier to break down if you use leverage. Use a brick or something and put the breaker onto that. Work from one inside to the middle and then to the end. You'll probably find the last part won't lift out so you might have to use a hammer to smack the block off. Like the ending of the last sentence, those pallet types are easier to break down if you use a sledge hammer or club hammer and hit the blocks. Then you end up with a slat with three blocks on it and you can just smack those off and remove the nails from the boards.
Took me hours last weekend trying to break a pallet down without breaking the boards, brought this other day and takes me less then 20 mins to get one broke down with minimal broken boards! Thanks
If yer really interested , you can get an air gun that will blow the nails outta the pallet. The barrel slides over the nails and blows them out. Amazing time saver instead of using a hammer to pull them out.
Enjoyed your video, nice one 👍 I’ve got the same pallet buster and got it from Screwfix for £28. I think it’s a brilliant tool! The nail puller is useless but it still makes pallet dismantling a lot quicker and easier. A flat nail bar / pry bar is a cheap tool and great for getting the nails out.
I know this vid has been around for a while but you have convinced me to buy one of these as I've been using a hammer and crowbar and it takes forever. Just a tip the second pallet you broke up if you used a block to lever against rather than the thin pallet wood it wouldn't spli so much wood.
The best way to start stripping down the second type of pallet which is held together with ring nails is to use a scissor type car jack, less broken slats.
that is something I don't own however if I need to do this again I will have a look into this as it sound interesting I need to know how did you find out that would work as this is something I would never have though of
@@DaftyInTheGarden I was trying to lift something on to a Skate to move it and the skate had the same profile as a pallet so thought I’d try pulling pallets apart with the scissor jack.
I sell a similiar design and tell people there ideal for breaking 4 inch boards with 2 nails in .anything over 4 inches with three nails in forget it \same goes for Euro pallets
Trial and error....thats all with always some chuckles but on serious not I dunno if it's a hobby but u need safety shoes...my dumb ass learned really a hard way had 2 go straight on other side of foot...but that toool is a life saver...look at air nail remover....Amazon has it
I end up just using one of the planks as a lever, never really felt the need of a specific tools for taking them apart. What's your opinion on it after a few mknths of using it?
