@inmate120 without a doubt, go with the hero. i was a palm user for a long time and was nervous to switch to another phone but i switched to the hero and i am absolutely in love with this phone!
Palm Pre is looking better from these comparisons so far. Seems like the Pre is more user friendly and intuitive. Not really sure how you switch between open applications with the Hero or how you open another program while you are inside of another. With the Pre you just slide up from beneath the screen or go into card view. I also like the fact that with the Pre you just start typing and it asks you if you want to search wikipedia/google/maps/etc. Bookmarks look nicer on the Pre too.
I got a Pre and am taking it back...I'll be trying the Hero next. The reason is that the mic placement on the Pre is terrible! It is on the left side face of the phone. If you like to talk with the phone between your shoulder and face, forget it. No one will be able to hear you. Sometimes they can't even hear you when you hold the phone regular. I don't like using headsets and so I can't deal with it...which is sad because I want to like the Pre so much!
you know those stupid txts that only include one of the following "lol, wtf, k, ok, ?", yeah the on screen becomes very handy because you dont have to flip open the phone and use both hands to type
WebOS is essentially a GUI for Linux, while Android is all run through a virtual machine. Which means WebOS should ALWAYS be faster per clock than Android. People have been known to run ARM ports of Linux programs directly on Palm Pre. With a decent redesign to take advantage of a HVGA screen you have access to tons of desktop programs. I've even seen someone run OpenOffice on their Pre, though it was slow and way too big for the screen. I've owned two Android phones, the Hero and the Moment.
phonedog is popular and companies send them phones to review. and ucan just buy the hero from europe or ebay . its not hard to obtain a htc hero, but its not pratical since no hero currently supports 3g
My favorite mobile OS will probably stay Windows Mobile (not Windows Phone). It was efficient and ran fast even on low end devices. It had some major downsides that killed it with the general public. Lack of a good UI, lack of a dedicated apps store, and lack of a webkit browser (so browsing was slow). All the tools were there though, especially for a network administrator. In fact Microsoft still suggests WinMo as a professional OS, while Windows Phone is really aimed at teenagers.
Palm Pre should be getting WebOS 2.0 soon, which means full Flash 10.1. That should tilt the playing field back into the Pre's favor. Plus the Pre just has better hardware, ARMv7 is MUCH faster than ARMv6. The Pre also overclocks like a champ, some people even get it stable at 1.2 GHz. There is no phone running that fast at stock I believe. Palm Pre is what you make it really. WebOS is just as open (or possibly more so) than Android, since apps can be written more easily.
it cant be updated officially from htc because of the with google branding but u could root ur phone and then add the rom which works really smooth multitouch and flash on mytouch 3g
Android is decent it just doesn't work well on an ARMv6 device. Even with a JIT compiler, ARMv6 devices lag just running the OS. Sprint also has a lack of ARMv7 Android devices. They only have three as of right now, HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Epic 4G, and HTC EVO Shift 4G. All of which are 4G phones which include a $10 data premium and none of them work on my third party plan. So I just ordered the Pre and I really don't think I will regret it. It's got plenty of power, if not a bit ram starved.
Is the Pre durable? Idk it kind of looks like it will break fairly easily compared to the Hero, and that's a huge issue for me, because I tend to destroy phones that are around the size of the pre haha
Android is a lot better than the pre. just by being open source says a lot. palm just doesnt click with me they release a phone and a month later its obsolete. i have a G1 and i absolutely love it my only complaint is T-mobile.
You gotta do something about the strange music in the intro. I don't know how many of us really likes it, but personally I am not a big fan. That being said, I love your video reviews! :)
palm pre wins hands down....Looks better, better for text messaging, faster and dosent lag. web browsing is smooth and not glitchy like the HTC. HTC looks like its more customizable but im more concerned about how smooth the phone works. PALM PRE WINS FOR ME!
Everyone who keeps saying iPhone is better, I want you to try something. I want you to try using Safari and any other app at the same time! Oh and your lucky the update came out just recently otherwise you wouldn't be able to copy and paste....
i HATE that black dead space around android phones...like..i know htc know that thats the main reason iphone and pre look so much better...soooo...why not change it! and make that the whole screen!....i dont understand people who create phones....why not improve??? is it really that much of a fuckin hasel!!! gawd! that fone is so ugly! but i like it!....jus need to be prettier!!!! block lookin ass fone
