Noah, You can go to a LIST of bookmarks on the Pre by clicking on Menu -> Bookmarks in the Web Browser. So you can do thumbnail bookmarks or list of bookmarks
Noah... the Pre does show you a list of bookmarks. You're just at the start page. At any time while you're browsing, when you hit bookmarks in the menu, it takes you to a screen with a list of bookmarks you scroll through...
Glad you like it. I've always loved Palm, even back in the day when Palm OS 3 was all the rage. I just think that Android, as an OS, suits my needs better.
Thanks for review. Made me glad i held off on the Pre, knowing new android phones were on the way. I have been disappointed in every palm product I have ever owned but the web OS looked good. ant wait till I can preorder the Hero and pick it up in October. Keep up the reviews.
I heard from sprint that there's going to be a new phone comming out in a few months. Is that the phone you were talking about? If not, any idea what kind of phone it will be? I'm still trying to decide what new phone i should get. Lol.
As for flash pre will have flash. And ps. you can use your pre to teather. either by usb or bluetooth or wifi. available via homebrew and no rooting requ. :)
The pre's software rocks.. but the hardware damaged my heart. Web os has great potential.. can't wait for palm to make a decent phone with great hardware. The Hero is going to be my new phone in october. it is simply the best hardware i've seen ..and the software isn't bad at all. great vid noah!
I think I disagree with the Pre's keyboard being too small, I have big hands and usually use big landscape sliding keyboards, but lately I have been using a palm centro (which the keyboard is much smaller than the pre's) and it is actually really really comfortable to use, I think anybody would get used to it within a day. So I imagine the pre's keyboard would be even better.
Noah: actually there is a onscreen keyboard that works in landscape too. it is homebrew. As for the web bookmards. in the web browser you go to the left top tab and go to bookmarks and they display in text. I do not see why you like the htc hero. the pre is simply better and the physical keyboard is much better than any onscreen keyboard
yeh u hit the nail there, buy these phones for their potential and what can be in the future. BUT if you want a phone for now with loads of apps etc buy iphone 3gs!!
i personally think the pre keyboard is awesome. like i have a sidekick and it was cool and all for the first week but i would give it up for the pre in a heart beat. and im seriously POed cause they made the new sidekick a month after i got my first edition lx
The hardware on the Hero isn't anything stunning as far as the internals go, but definitely up to par. BUT that sense UI just looks amazing, HTC REALLY did well this time around. The Pre has one of the bes OS' but with my time with the pre, the external hardware is just below par. Once they get a strong device going with webOS, it should hopefully take off. (this is all coming from an iPhone 3GS user. Yeah, some of us iPhone users aren't jerks and are open to other phones lol)
Now, I'm a big fan of the latest technology, especially when it comes to cell phones. With my occupation, I need more than the outdated flip phone. But also, I won't buy a phone just for it's features if the network service sucks. And for me, the Sprint network is terrible. I owned a Blackberry Curve from Sprint and took it back in two weeks. I barely got service unless I was standing on one foot, with my left hand soaking in a half cup of goat's milk, and my body turned 36.7 degrees northwest.
In my opinion Palm pre wins, better User Interface, nice features such as converting text, sms, mms all in one, nice notifications, flash is coming soon and they are working with adobe, apps are still in beta but give a year and it would be half the size of iphones app store. There are ways to install other software, such as onscreen keyboard, teathering via homebrew on the pre since theres the app store is still in beta, but it just gives you a clue on what the real app store is going to be lik
I've owned the Pre for almost 3 months now and am so disappointed. Although the apps are finally rolling in, the battery life and small keyboard are horrible! I want to try the Hero if Sprint will let me do the swap without paying full price...
hero looks awesome but i kinda want a physical keyboard now (never had one). i think the real fight will be when instinct q which has a physical keyboard comes out a month after the hero. i think i'll wait til it comes out and compare the instinct q to the hero
(cont'd) So, I wouldn't buy the Palm Pre for that reason alone. I wouldn't get the full advantage of all of the features because the network over here lags like crazy. Sprint doesn't have enough towers where I'm at. Actually, T-Mobile does. So I would easily choose the G1 over the Palm Pre. And whatever the G1 will lack in features, my laptop will make up for. And I haven't seen an IM feature as stunning as the sidekick, yet. But I'm sure that's not the focus of the manufacturers.
I also have owned a PRE - and to sit here and pretend like there isn't MASSIVE jerky lag on almost EVERY APP - not to mention even jerky lag when it comes to swiping the APP DRAWER. Hero is by far, LIGHT YEARS ahead of the Pre in fluidity, and i prefer 10,000 apps to the few dozen I have from Palm. I don't want to root my phone just to change my SMS tones, or have widgets. I don't want to have to install homebrew just to install apps. Pre has a LONG WAY TO GO. Goodbye PRE - Hello HERO!
This isn't about Palm's past, this is about you claiming that the Pre is a much better phone, but it doesn't look any better to me and I prefer the Hero. Don't make a statement like that if you can't prove it's better. The Hero is a great improvement on their other Android phones.
yes maybe but consider the samsung touchscreen isnt very good at all and also it isnt multi touch and not quite as responsive ive had time to feel the insinct normal and isnt very well made
Weird never realized that Pre and Hero have the exact same size screen. Why is the Hero hardware so much bigger, when the Pre has a built in keyboard? No flash support on the Pre might be a deal breaker for me, but I still think Web OS is better. The integration of universal search and chat on the Pre are superior to anything Noah demoed on Android. Also performance wise the Pre ran circles around the Hero in these videos. Very disappointed in the Pre's app store and lack of virtual keyboard.
The Hero is also getting an update, and I would like you to prove that the Pre is a better phone, because all you have done that I can see is make me believe you're an ignorant fanboy. They're both very nice, and at the end of the day it comes to personal preference, just like those that prefer the iPhone.
The Hero made best smartphone of 2009 and besides that hun buisness ppl like me dont care for 'simplicity' we need good email integration and conference calling. The Iphone is great but you'd be surprised at how little buisness users care for smartphones like iphone and pre despite there many buisness apps. The Cumbersome movement is the hardware the Sprint one moves alot better (in case you didnt know)
I like this guy and some of his videos. But, I do believe that he needs to do a lot more homework on the Pre. The Palm Pre is a way more better phone than the HTC Hero and is coming out with an Huge update and will release tons of Apps really soon to the public between October and December. Palm will soon regain its dominance as the premier smartphone carrier. The Webos update 1.2 should be out by the end of this month. This video comparison was terrible.
I really wanted to like the Palm more than the Pre, but I just don't see it beating Android. I also don't really like the "cards". So... HTC Hero ftw! (for now)
@jeremys1713 lol I just sold my Hero for a Pre. The Hero nets about $100-125 on ebay and a Pre nets about $75-100. I made $30 switching to a better phone. Plus, Pre is getting WebOS 2.0 soon (people are thinking March), which means Flash 10.1 support. As you know by now the Hero's Flash Lite is pretty shitty. Even overclocked to 748 MHz the Hero is just slow. ARMv6 just doesn't have a place on Android, the OS has soooo much overhead. WebOS is faster, the Pre is an ARMv7 device making it speedy.
@hd883low17 i've heard a lot of rumors of bad hardware. it seems pretty hit and miss. some people never have problems and some have a ton. it's pretty sad actually. i just can't suggest the hero having owned it. i've been using it as my personal phone for just about a month...and i've already sold it off. it's faster than my old Moment but just because my Moment had no GPU drivers. the pre is just a lot better speced than both. it's sad that you need 4g for good android on sprint.
ive played with andriod and i am not impressed. its not very ground breaking. the pre on the otherhand is so fresh and new. and works great. Its so fast even faster the 3gs on wifi. i do not see android flooding the market. it is physically impossible. the market is too big.
and if your pre has no lag when you swipe on ANY menu - LOL - please go to the AT&T store and pick up an iphone 3gs and then come back and type an EDUCATED and INFORMED comment. and if you can't tell the difference between the fluidity in the machines - and the LACK of fluidity and smoothness in the palm pre - then you should have saved yourself some SERIOUS money and gotten a windows mobile phone. they are way cheaper.
The HTC is such a POS. Did you notice how the horizontal on-screen keyboard takes up the entire screen for the HTC...completely stupid. Go with a Pre and you won't regret it.
hero is the worest a moment is wayyy bettter then a hero. i Owned both. the Pre is just a clean ass phone. Feels more put together then android but moment is great if u like android... but pre is a power house compared to the hero and the moment
they are getting flash soon....apps are coming they just stared...people expect a cellphone to have 20,000 apps already...i remember when people made cellphone just to call people now you need all that silly crap...plus half the stuff you saying will come soon :)
Well i have played with the g1 and like i said I DIDN'T LIKE IT. As for 4g the palm will son also release a webos phone with 4G. As well as two new palm phones this year. both webos. As you can see the hero has alot of lag!! pre has close to none! as for apps you have the upper hand for now. but the developers are so excited about webos. and the apps have synergy so it will tie into the phone itself. And as for speed and from what is see pre blows hero out of the water.
HTC and their little android phones has had a short history with terrible phones that produce little results. Palm has been around since 1995 and is still producing amazing software and hardware. It's not that I'm ignorant you bitter punk, it's just the fact that I've seen Palm do this before. They were in a slump and now they will eventually gain their dominance as the premier leader off smartphones. Yes people do have personal preference, but people also like user friendly and that is PRE.
lol - your rebuttal is completely misguided and irrelevant. first of all - it's pure speculation you bring to the table. MY argument & FACT remains - the preapp store has 59 apps, period. THOUSANDS of users forced to chose from DOZENS of apps - not THOUSANDS of users chosing from THOUSANDS of apps. secondly your statement of "2 dozen" apps is drawn from where? friends? most people i know run at lest 5-10 games and 20-30 apps on android. there are apps for things like camera, SMS and dialer..
