A single trunk chamaerops that is rare!! Just lovely. That minor look's fine.

Thanks for your appreciation Alex. Yes, they are certainly rare. In my September update vid I note that the Sabal Minor only grew half of one leaf during the summer. They like 30 C temperatures to grow well but they are hardy in winter as you probably know. 😎

yes, i thought it was a windmill palm on first glance.

Thanks a lot Anthony. It's quite a job getting a plastic green house cover over the frame for winter. Luckily, it has not suffered from squirrels stripping its bark! Ha-ha! Have you seen my Sept update?

Your garden is very pretty. I love tropical trees and palm trees. Reminds me of exotic holidays. One day when I get my own garden, I plan to do the same. I wish the UK would plant more palms, they survive well. They never look damp, even in the rain, there is something about where they look lush, dry and tidy.

Thank you for appreciating my palms Mia. I do have to limit the amount of rain they get in winter to avoid root rot but as you say the leaves look great in the rain anyway. 😎

Thanks, Pawel for looking at all my videos ! The cycad in the ground is my favourite. It must be very old judging by the large trunk.

Thanks! I wish you could send me a bit of your Alabama summer heat. My Sabal in particular could use it! 😅

Beautiful garden! I can imagine how much work is behind... Thanks for sharing

Thank you, Miriam. Yes, the Washingtonia especially needs care because it is less cold hardy than the others. Hence the frame I built around it so I can drape a green house cover over it in winter !

I wasn't a palm tree fan... UNTIL NOW. I've been allergic to palm trees most of my life. Ask anyone. But now, with Chris's narration, I feel like not only can I overcome a fear of fronds - but I may not even be allergic to them any more. Take THAT, science (and my long history of hypochondria). In all seriousness, tropical plants in England are mind-boggling to me to begin with (I live in New York) so this was a joyous romp of a video. I just want to see more Chris next time, to balance out all these Cycas and Trachycarpus's...

Really cool collection of palms. I'm a big fan of how you kept the palm views clean. What I mean by that is that you haven't overplanted round them like I did last summer. I'm up in the NE uk. I love the way you can grow the washy outdoors I've got a few smaller ones but overwintering outdoors was unsuccessful. I think it could be done up here but would need some help. I keep my armata indoors as I can't afford to risk it. Yours looks class. Love the Sabal, that would cost you a few quid now I'm sure. Your cycas look really good. Mine are outdoors also in raised beds and a pot. Great work. I'll be following your progress keenly. I always appreciate a palm purist, your garden and planting deserves recognition. Superb 👏👏👍

Thanks for your compliment re clean palm views and purism, Vince. Yes, the Washy is tricky so I had to construct that frame around it. Good luck with growing yours in pots. They are fast growing. That’s great you can keep your cycas in raised beds as they grow better in the ground. 😄🌴

the urban heat island effect makes tropical gardening easier.
@jtruman48
@jtruman48 3 года назад
Yes, it’s certainly easier in London than in other parts of the U.K.

really nice collection!, only thing that's missing is a canary island date palm.
@jtruman48
@jtruman48 3 года назад
Thanks! I had to choose between the date palm and the Chilean wine palm for my centrepiece at the back of the garden because of limited space. I decided on the Chilean because the leaf divisions have a smooth and uniform pattern unlike the date which is criss cross and messy looking. But I would like one all the same!😅

Do your sagos stay outside in the winter? What protection do you use? Thanks for sharing!
@jtruman48
@jtruman48 2 года назад
Yes, they do. You can see my winter protection in my November update video. The two in pots around my patio door are placed in wooden troughs and I wedge bubble wrap between the rubber pots and the wood to prevent the pots from freezing. The video shows the frames I built. Thanks for your question.

is that a jubea at 3:41? You never mentioned the name.

Yes, well spotted Charlie. I bought it in a 50 litre pot 5 years ago and it has grown well. I talk about it in my other vids with this same title plus you add September update and November update.

looks like you had a pot of water filled with algae.

Yes, it’s rain water. Useful for dunking a watering can into it in order to give a quick watering of my small pots.😊
