Mallorca is a no brainer for summer holidays. But what about the colder months, when the beaches are chilly and empty? Is it even worth it? Well, we've lived here for 2 years and we've gotten to a conclusion.
Here’s why Palma de Mallorca is the perfect city break destination in the colder months.
Forget the beaches : the mainland has a few perks down its sleeve and the perfect time to experience them may be AUTUMN!
Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the Balearic Island, is a little gem in the fall. The weather is usually mild and mostly sunny (although November has a rainy reputation), so it’s the perfect time to visit!
If you come for northern countries, chances are it will still feel like summer to you. But for locals, November is usually when the serious cold starts.
Still, wandering around Palma is a pleasure in the colder months, with much less tourists around and the smell of Christmas in the air.
We have 3 big recommendations for pretty much EVERYONE who wants to visit Palma.
First : SIGHTSEEING
1)The old town with the Cathedral, the Parc de la Mar and the Royal Palace is an absolute must.
In this video we’ve also shown S'Hort del Rei and Arc de sa Drassana right next to the Cathedral.
2) We highly recommend a stroll through the old narrow alleys of La Calatrava neighbourhood.
3) In the old town you can find many art nouveau buildings, including Can Forteza Rey and Can Casasayas.
Ultimately, don’t plan too much and just go where curiosity takes you. Palma is all incredibly beautiful and there are many more interesting places that we couldn't fit in one video.
Second : EATING
1) If you want a lively and spontaneous culinary experience, head to one of Palma de Majorca’s indoor markets. We recommend Mercat de l’Olivar and Mercat de Santa Catalina.
2) For sweet treats and for some magic, go to Fornet de la Soca and… thank us later :)
3) Also don’t miss the chances to try Turrones. You can taste and buy some at Torrons Vicens.
Third : SHOPPING
Popular shopping streets are Carrer de San Miquel, Avinguda de Jaume III, Carrer de Colom, Carrer Jaume II, Carrer del Sindicat.
And our favorite Paseig del Born, with its elegant architecture and the tree alley.
We hope these suggestions can be useful for your next Palma de Majorca visit. Let us know in the comments :)
